Newegg told me I was a bot. I had to seriously question my humanity. It's been a rough couple days.

It's going to be hard to get a card from Newegg it seems, they sell out almost instantaneously.

I have yet to even recieve an email from either Newegg or evga. All I would like is at least a chance lmao. I have no intention of sitting here all day everyday hoping for a 60 second chance of getting stuck in my cart 😆

They’ve mentioned multiple times that they aren’t allowed to do preorders probably by nvidia. But you can do backorders on CDW. They have no clue when they’ll be able to fill them though. I’ve had one since the 18th and still no idea on a date.

Yeah, but CDW is charging a nice little premium over Newegg and all the other sites.

I have a backorder through CDW for a different brand because I knew the EVGA backorder was too long and the CDW markup on the FTW3 was ridiculous. I wish EVGA would let us do pre-paid backorders for 3080 and 3090 FTWs with clear warnings that payment was immediate but that delivery could be 30 days or more(even if EVGA limited the orders to a number they knew could be shipped in the next 4 weeks). I don't believe scalpers would be as willing to have money committed for an indefinite period. As an enthusiast, I would be happy to pay now and not have to deal with the bad experience on the retail websites. There are a bunch of other enthusiasts who feel the same way because they're purposefully buying 20-series cards just so they can use the Step-Up program as an indirect preorder system.

Yes! If Nvidia allowed pre-orders, it would ruin the scalper's attempts to control the market.

Preorders would also prevent a sense of scarcity and/or overwhelming demand. Whether or not Nvidia was prepared or not for this and whether or not they really underestimated demand, I think they were always planning on trying to create some kind of chokepoint to make things look better to investors. Especially after the lackluster 20xx launch. It's the only logical reason why nvidia would prevent preorders. With preorders people would at least sit there and be content that their order would be fulfilled, and though it might take a while there'd be no sense of scarcity that would drive more people to purchase.

I'm just bidding my time. The huge AMD leak, if it pans out, has utterly convinced me that AMD will pull a huge swathe of gamers away from Nvidia and that next gen might be the gen they finally completely close the gap. They still need a solution for DLSS, but they said they're working on it. Between consumer frustration over the launch, all the muddying of waters due to the CAPGATE mess, and AMD coming in like kirby to suck in market share, it should be pretty darn easy to grab a 30xx card by the end of October... especially if EVGA can hook us up with a better way to snag one off their shop.

AMD would need sufficient volume, and to not be a crypto miner magnet to really dent NVidia's marketshare I reckon. I really hope they make something that is competitive in terms of price and performance, because that is a win for the consumers but I have a hard time seeing a scenario in the current economic reality where they can pump out huge volumes of cards that may have very thin margins to compete with nvidia's economy of scale, while meeting the console demand. Jacob did seem pretty confident that they'd be able to meet demand by the end of October, hard to know if that is them factoring in whatever AMD releases, but hopefully by November it is much easier to get any new card.
