I need specific instructions how to do this and install it. Does it require thermal to paste along with the thermal pads or you just put it on anyways? I know the processor of the gpu needs thermal paste but what about the thermal pads? Do they require thermal along the thermal pad or just apply the new pad on? EVGA tech support said I can use the same pad but my video card is seeping oil and I figured it's time I learned how to take apart a video card and re-apply MX-4 thermal on the GPU chip. I dunno about the thermal pads. I need to know all of the specifics what I need to do to replace that. The size of the pads and what brand and where to buy. Amazon or anywhere? Link me and help me have a tutorial how do this?

This is my video card EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 SSC GAMING, 06G-P4-6264-KB,

I thought of putting MX-4 on my CPU since I recently used Diamond TG-7 for the i5 3570k. I was in a emergency due to the fact I slightly had bad temps for moving the tubes. I hope I didn't cause a kink there. Thought of getting a new cooler. Get back to me PC gamers!

So no paste is needed for thermal pads. Take the old ones off. Measure the length and the width the thermal pads are sticky on both sides. Place them over the chips and VRMs and then plug in any wires on the GPU, put the cover on, screw it in and the plug into the system and away you go

EVGA tech support told me I can reuse those thermal pads if I wanted to. However, I am not sure what kind of thermal pads I need for this specific card and size itself. I have no clue how many is inside. Including how many pads I should buy? I saw pads at Micro Centerhttps://www.microcenter.c....aspx?Ntt=Thermal+Pads so which one do I need? Help me.

Tech Support said I can use the same thermal pads if I wanted to. I just can apply thermal on the processor chip though to make it cooler. I don't have throttle problems though but I do have oil seepage due to throttle heating in the past probably from something that occured heat issues or whatever it was. Someone mentioned in a previous forum that 100 series cards are known to have oil popping out of the card due to thermal issue. Is 91% rubbing alcohol okay to use to clean the oil out? I cannot for the life of me find 99% everywhere. I am just picky. I was told it is okay.

so I assume maybe the pads just need to be replaced anyways if I were to purchase thermal pads so it doesn't happen again. It's not a big issue but I do know I gotta change the thermal anyways because the card will be taken apart.  Is there a backplate I can order for this card too? I can't seem to find one.

If you want to change the pads I'd suggest buying some fujipoly thermal pads in 1.0mm thickness. 91% is fine to use. This backplate will fit your card.

Okay thanks for the instructions for thermal pads. Appreciate it. Wish EVGA Tech Support would provide actual thermal pads the way the original card has but this will do. Thanks!

I like the backplate but I honestly seen better but it'll do. I kept the link in case. You had a broken link but I fixed the search and found it.

I plan on using the Artic MX-4 for the GPU and CPU if needed. Just purchased one. Thanks.

1.0mm thermal pads? Can you link me a specific thermal pads? There's too many numbers out there and I need a good set for my EVGA 1060 SSC 6GB card. Help me please. It seems to have some throttle issue when I play games. I have no clue why it skips.

TIM needs to cover the GPU die completely - unlike a CPU that is not a heat spreader

my GTX 750 cooler has a surface on it like a CPU cooler. I use a small amount of MX-4 and it works perfect.

Oh I haven't bothered to ordered them yet. I intend to. I will post back updates! The doc is about to do some work! I'll report in when I can. I still would love to purchase a EVGA 2060 since I currently recently built a new PC. A lot of people say that Ray Tracing cards are a waste of money but the 2060 is a good budget card. I was leaning towards another 1060 but a 1070 or 1080 would be nice. However I want what is the best. I have to get a new monitor soon which needs to support 75hz at 1080p. No idea if 144hz would be good. I want the best to last. My current monitor is from 2014 and it's a BENQ GW2450 and it's old as heck!

Oh yea no idea where to buy the best Display Port cable too. Want the best for heavy PC gaming.

No idea what else to say but I do need to upgrade my SSD. I may need to update more of my drivers for my chipset and whatnnot. Haven't contacted Intel and Asus about it. Been having problems finding what I need but it shouldn't be too hard to do so to install.

Least last I need a new SSD or buy one of these M.2 NVE SSD cards but I have zero experience with those.

Are you able to flip the thermal pads on the card and use the other side that is currently in the card or would that not make any difference at all?  I need to order those damn pads!

I use Furmark to determine if a card is thermally stable.

My GTX 750 and GTX 1060 need only 4 screws to dissect them. I use MX-4 on the logic in extremely small amounts and it seems to be ideal.

Long cards usually need MX-4 on the regulators too. Depends on the way the cooler is designed. I have repaired a lot of cards.

I am talking about the thermal pads though but I already know about the GPU processor. I usually put MX-4 thermal on it. Just concerned with the video card thermal pads that's all.

I found pads that I could find were made with silicone which performs poorly so I used MX-4 on regulators and it works on them

The GTX 260 SC I fixed due to overheating used a complex cooler over the card that was fairly good. It allowed me to use MX-4 successfully and the card has worked fine since with temperatures so much lower than it was even new.

Wait what? You put thermal paste on the phase regulators? I thought you weren't supposed to put thermal compound under your thermal pads? That's what those thermal pads are for? Can I do this for my EVGA 1060 6GB SSC?  I only re-applied the gpu processor? Was I misinformed here? EVGA tech support said don't put thermal paste on the pads and just replace them or leave them be but replace the thermal paste so I assume I probably misread something?  Am I really supposed to take off those thermal pads and re-apply thermal?  What about using the same pads? How am I supposed to use the same pads? Are there thermal already under there? I have rubbing alcohol 91%. I could fix this right now. Get back to me so I can get to the bottom of this.

Using thermal paste in places where thermal pads are suppose to be is a no no. Don't do it.

What's a good normal temp for a EVGA 1060 SSC 6GB card can go up to? I notice it went up to 74c benchmark on Assassin Creed games. Everything else is fine.

I haven't flipped them at all. Would that affect anything? I don't really have high temps at the moment. Does it make any difference?
