I want to remove the GPU bracket for my 780 Ti SC to reduce the temperature by around 3 degrees.

IS this safe?? Will it damage the card.. Is there way to support the gpu in the pcie slot without a bracket???

I can't buy the high flow brackets where i live and they are too expensive anyway.

I will only be using 1 displayport output.

That is how the card is supported. So it is kind of needed. If you have junk GPU laying around you could mod that to fit and have better airflow.

What if i use like a rubber band or zip-tie to tie the gpu to my case fan above? So it won't be sagging down too much.

That sounds like a terrible idea in my opinion, using rubber bands and zip-ties.

If you are needing to reduce temps by 3C for whatever reason, I think by removing that bracket you are not addressing your real issue. You should look at adding more fans or changing size of fans or get a better case. Seems silly to just have spent $700 on new GPU and you want to rig it with zip ties and rubber bands. C'mon that is just silly.

Not sure why you think you will get 3C by removing that bracket anyways.

I would recommend buying a GTX 680 high flow bracket and cutting/modifying it for better airflow, then trying that out. You don't want the card to be unsupported, especially if the PC case takes an impact for some reason.

People get 3-4C extra from high flow brackets and upto 8 removing it entirely. IT also reduces noise too. I just don't normally buy reference cards with crap cooling but this time i did so i'm paranoid

But you can't buy that anywhere in Aus :(

I tried to look for it

You could mod the bracket that came on the card but be aware  that  will void your warranty.
The card really needs that bracket to support the weight of the card, with out it you could possibly damage the card or your pci-e  slot on your motherboard.
I would not run the card with out a bracket.

Then how do people deal with broken brackets?? There has to be a makeshift way to compensate for the loss of the bracket without modding my current one.

I have never broken a bracket on a video card.
Not saying it does not happen, but have never had that happen in my 20 some odd years of building and modding computers.
As stated before if you spent the money on the card i would track down a stock bracket or a modded bracket, remember where there is a will there is away.
    Good luck.

I was just mentioning this on another forum. Dremel the bracket! But as another said, the airflow in your case should be addressed first. I have a raven rv02 and had titans in sli. Funny thing is the "top" card (closest to CPU) ran cooler than the bottom card(closest to hdd bay). I changed the ap181s for ap182s which made a huge difference in air pressure and flow onto the gpu's. The top card was actually directly above one of the fans. Even when I swapped the cards, the top was lower still. I mention that because one was evga and one was Asus.

Anyway, check case airflow before worrying about a bracket. If anything mod/zip tie 120mm fans closer to the card to provide more cooling. I once had a 560ti twin frozr I bought for cheap because one of the HSF were broke. Needless to say, I just removed the shroud and fans and zip tied two 120mms to the heatsink and viola!

Take it from me...rubber bands are bad!! I use to use them years ago to hold a fan on my DDR ram and they would snap and break every week or so just from being stretched out for so long and probably from the temp fluctuations etc.... Zip ties you may get away with but if you do have a incident like the case falls over etc... your card is gonna move and it may damage the mobo when it does besides itself. Mod one, or two even, of the brackets that are on your case, that cover the pci-e holes, to fit your gcard and use that.

My PC is on the ground against my desk so no way of falling over. I'm thinking of using long metal strips/zip ties.

What do you mean by mod the brackets that are on my case??

Im saying use the single slot cover brackets that cover the pci holes on the back of your case....you have to take them off to install a graphics card. They are the same thing as the bracket that's around the g-card but just a blank that covers the hole. you can mod one to screw to your card to get some support for it, dremel out the center of it and not use a second one and keep the bottom open. that way you spend no money, get what you need and alter nothing on the card to lose your warranty just incase you have to put the original back on. The blank case brackets you could even get for free at your local recycling center off a older case if you really wanted to.  :)
