Recommendations for a new modem  32X8 with DOCSIS 3.1 1000Mbps  --> Comcast

Current Modem:        16X4 DOCSIS 3.0 680 MBPS

I willing to see if indeed more channels make a difference, especially when cable traffic is peaked

Hey Cool :)

Why do you need a new modem? Doesn't comcast already offer you one with your subscription? If so what's wrong with it? :)

I prefer to own & my service has been upgraded

So, I'm shopping for 3.1 as it seems to be the better option even for 400 Mbps service & required for 1000 Mbps service

Comcast can rent you one ~ $11 - $12 /month with tax & fees / I've seem mixed reviews on their unit especially WiFi

Well i wish i could help you but specific modems for a specific ISP outside of France is not my strong suit :)

Doesnt comsat have a specific forum for their users? I would post it there if it existed, you'll have more chances to get good answers than here imho.

Yes, I've seen their list / know they do not activate units umless already approved

I was asking for feedback from the forums members -- the reviews on those "supported modems" is a mixed bag & a lot of either Love or Hate reviews

The list can vary by location, so it was more just to verify what works in your area. I generally stay away from Netgear products now as if you frequent their forums you will find much evidence of angry customers with botched firmware updates and terrible support. Dealing with their customer service personally has proven to be a complete waste of time. I have not used their modems however, just their routers but I would assume the experience is similar. I have however used Arris modems exclusively for the past 12 years and they've been fairly rock solid. Just don't get the SB6190 - it has the Intel Puma 6 chipset and has been part of a class action lawsuit because of the poor performance it has. "Good" modems generally have Broadcom chipsets. https://www.approvedmodem.com/do-not-buy-list.html

I also use a ARRIS but it's rented by Comcast.  I've had another one that lasted for almost a decade prior iirc and recently went back to an ARRIS when our 1 year old Modem from some other manufacturer went bust.

If I were to buy a Cable Modem, it would have to be with ARRIS.

My old modem just went a little flaky, so it's time to replace it.

Im also with Comcast and decided to go with this one.  https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16825390011

Exactly the ones I'm leaning towards

Arris 8200 & Motorola MB8600

Motorola seems to be the one I'm leaning towards.

Netgear has lost their customer centric support & my business, based on what I've read all over the web

Funny how all current "Comcast approved modems"  are ` 60-70% 5-star & 16-29% 1-Star

That love/hate split is the whole reason I'm asking my peers, here on the EVGA Forums - I did not see a clear winner

I did learn when searching to Avoid ---> Intel Puma Chips & ArrisSB6190 modem

Thank you one and all, will be ordering  today if time allows

I had a Netgear Router.  And to be honest, I really liked it.   But.  The 5Ghz wireless died in less than a year and then when I tried to get it warrantied, CS wanted me to pay them to diagnose it so I could get it warrantied.

I'm running this with my Unifi setup and it's been solid. https://www.amazon.com/Next-Generation-Arris-Surfboard-SB8200-DOCSIS/dp/B01N6SKK1G
There are reports of it running hot but this has been resolved with latest firmware. Just be sure your ISP pushes the newest FW when provisioning

That was my second choice if Motorola 8600 did not work out

over 1.5 hours to setup (let it scan till it was happy then "activate") and re-provision the modem to get my paid for speed.

My buddies @ Comcast - actually slowed down my internet from 300 Mbps when the new (Much faster 1Gbps) modem activated ?

I think they get lonely over in Comcast support and like it when customers call support.

Oh, your speed in the system was set to 150Mbps  & not 400Mbps you signed up for 8 days prior (5 days & 4 calls to support before this) - we can re-provision it (again) - 45 min later it finally worked at the paid for speed ......

Mine arrived yesterday.    Will get it hooked up and into the system tonight after work.

I also looked at that Arris modem.  Price was a bit of a turn off, but the biggest was the color.

A little late on this thread, but I've had good experience with both Motorola and Arris.

I currently keep an Arris SB6190 as a backup for my office for when the comcast provided modem goes out. I've had to swap it in 3 times in the last year and a half. I would keep it as the daily modem, but comcast has a policy that they won't assign multiple IP's to a customer owned modem.

Anyways, I hope your new modem works well for you in the years to come. Please let us know if you have any problems with it.

Im on the 250mbps plan.

Nice

Upgraded CAT 5 to CAT 6 cables today -- seemed to help

Especially the 75 ft run from router to hub on a different floor

not sure if there would be any measurable advantage to going CAT 7 ?

Other than future proofing, I wouldnt think so.  Im still running CAT 5 on most things.    If you were gigabit then maybe.

I really wish that Comcast would raise the upload speed.   Even 20 up would be a huge improvement.
