Hello, I just received my RTX 3080, and there is a really really bad coil whine while playing. The video is not doing justice to the sound, believe me, it's really loud. youtube dot com/watch?v=17ByaEB04Hc Anyone has the same issue? NVidia drivers: 457.30 Power supply: Corsair AX850 850W Platinium The graphic card is powered with 3 8-pins cable (no piggy thing, they are distinctly connected to the power supply) No OC at all yet (lol what it is gonna be when I OC) Latest firmware is flashed on the card (when I first started X1). No change on the power has been made. Anyone having the same issue? What should I do? RMA? Refund?

I can hardly hear any whine. Fixes for coil whine... #1 Put glue on the noisy coils. Only works if coils are exposed. Will void warranty if done. #2 Run ati tool overnight to burn the card in. Click show 3d view to start ati render test. #3 Increase/decrease voltage on the card. #4 Use frame rate limiter software to limit fps in game to reduce whine. #5 Try a different psu. #6 Try a different motherboard. #7 RMA the card.

Someone here also reduced their coil whine a good bit by getting an active PFC compatible UPS. But they totally got rid of it by getting a different PSU (and to the best of my knowledge kept the UPS).

Gamers Nexus/BuildZoid just relesed a new vid on the RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra PCB/VRM. I think you should check it out then make your decision 🤔

Already tried 3, 4, 5. I'm gonna try 2 tonight, then probably 7. My PSU is actually high-end, so I do not expect it to be the issue here. I made sure the sound was coming from the GPU and not the PSU. arestavo Someone here also reduced their coil whine a good bit by getting an active PFC compatible UPS. I mean, for the price I paid, I would except 0 coil whine. I'm sorry, I'm not a native english speaker (french here) and IDK what is an active PFC compatible UPS. I tried some Google searches, no success so far. Would you be able to give me a link to a product page to buy it (well, not to buy it but to have an example of the product). So, I looked at the video - well not entirely, but I got the idea - apparently, the build quality of the EVGA 3080 FTW3 ULTRA is... ABSOLUTE TRASH and GARBAGE? :)

"The Pure Sine Wave UPS for equipment requiring active PFC power source" I've not had coil whine in years since using a 1320W pure sine wave UPS. (except in game menus where the game developers didn't cap the FPS and so I'd get thousands of FPS) Just note that if you get one that can't meet the power draw requirements of the stuff connected, it will scream at you (alarm) and possibly shut off.

"Yep" like it is most likely to go away with time, or there are slight chances it will go away? I have 14 days to decide whether I will return my card or not. Sajin and coil whine is harmless.
Well, not to my ears :P but yeah I know it's only a vibration caused by fast chances in current, nothing to worry about, but god, it's so annoying like crazy. BTW I just installed ATITools, and the coil whine is insane. I will let it run all night long to see how it goes.

So, ATI Tool runned all night long and... Nothing changed. Same coil whine when opening the door this morning. I tested in regular games, same bad coil whine. I'm gonna return it and never come back to EVGA. I've had EVGA 1080 OC Edition, 2080 EVGA and now this. I've also read all the posts regarding the 3080/90 red lights issues and I'm scared mine would just die any day. It reminds me the ring of death of the XBox lol. Still a thing in 2020, crazy.

Hi bro My first Evga 3080 ftw3 ultra have really bad coil whines and I returned to the retailer. They replaced me with a new card, which also have a bit of coil whines but its not notaceble compare with the first card. Also I have recently updated the firmware for the card via PX1 which drop the clockspeed by 150mhz however i didnt really notice any in peformance loss. My replacement card took over 2 weeks to arrived. If you are not happy with it consider the price for these thing return it to the retailer ask for a new card.

Just a heads up, I had a bit of coil whine on my FTW3 (all cards whatever the brand had some in my experience in the past 10 years), nothing major but noticeable. It completely went away by undervolting it (1930Mhz / 875mv rock stable). You should give it a try: 1% loss in performance, 6°C temperature gain, coil whine gone.

Mine had a bit of coil whine out of the box but it's gotten much worse over the past couple weeks. I can now hear it over my headphones at times. Been running benchmarks/stress tests that see if that helps it 'burn-in, " but no luck so far.

Would you be able to send me a screenshot of Afterburner / X1? I'm not sure i understand properly, as "875mv " is almost 50% less power than what I currently have on my own readings in Afterburner. Sounds like a mistake. Cadillac94pimpin Burn in usually works. My 2080 TI whined like crazy but went away after running some high FPS stress tests.
Could you give us a list of softwares you use for that? Thanks.

I am currently running Heaven Benchmarks on my 3080 FTW3 ultra. My coil whine is very similar to yours. I opened up a support ticket with EVGA. I hope to get this figured out soon. It is unbearable. Same Nvidia driver - newest precision x1 driver. Using a Corsair RM850x PSU. All PC components are brand new.

I just did an RMA for my FTW3 Ultra and the replacement card I received still has coil whine almost just as bad as my first card. I've been reading up on it and apparently it is a thing for Corsair PSUs to cause coil whine on EVGA GPUs. Which sounds like nonsense to me, but I may buy a different brand (probably EVGA or Seasonic) of PSU and try one of those.

Power input to the PSU, the PSU itself, and the GPU can all contribute to coil whine. I've not had coil whine in over 7 years (and 9 video cards now) since switching to an active PFC compatible, pure sine wave UPS and a high wattage, high quality PSU.

Just curious, what PSU do you use (I might try it to see if it helps)? I'm currently on a 1000w Corsair rm1000x and do run everything via a 1000w pure sine wave UPS as well. All of my cards except my old EVGA GTX 960 have had coil whine, but the 3080 just seems to be much worse than my past cards.

I switched from a Seasonic 1000W platinum as it was getting on 7 years of use to an EVGA 1600T2 that I picked up in 2018 during a really good sale (plus EVGA bucks!). I finally got around to installing it earlier this year when I upgraded to X299.
