Good Afternoon everyone,

I finally got my computer up and running again, I just bought a EVGA GTX 1060 SSC, overclocked my CPU to 4.2 Stable and i'm really enjoying my computer.

I'm running 8g DDR3 1066HZ 7-7-7-20 at 1.65v which I thought the votage was really high for my CPU which is a i7 2600k. The bios is set to Auto and it states 1.65v for DRAM voltage. That being said using CPU-Z under timing tables I have a declock at 914HZ or a overclock at 2000Hz at 9-11-9-27 at 1.65v. now if my bios says that I'm running at Dram voltage 1.65v and at 1066HZ then increasing the Frequency to 2000HZ at 1.65v wouldn't damage my CPU?

I'm confused because I thought that you shouldn't run your RAM at 1.65v for my CPU and CPU-Z also says 1066HZ at 1.5v but my Bios says 1.65v.  Can someone help me on figuring out what voltage is right?

Safest way is to run your RAM at the mfg spec

XMP is a factory OC of RAM - follow Mfg spec on this also

Set the RAM Voltage and Timing Manually in MB BIOS is best

    What MB ?

    Hi Cool GTx,
If the BIOS is showing 1.65v Auto , I'm going to assume that my CPU can run without being Damaged and I will try out the XMP settings and see where it takes me.
    Thank you Cool GTX,
    I hope I boot !!

I was able to Boot my ram at the XMP setting  2000Hz 7-11-9-27, but the ram only runs at 1866Hz. Is there something bottlenecking my ram ? and if so How do I figure that out.

    Thank you,

    What MB ?

What RAM -- Mfg and part number ?

Set the RAM Voltage and Timing --> Manually --> in MB BIOS  --> to the RAM Mfg's settings -- is the Best Way

Auto in your MB may or may not be correct

At a minimum Google your MB & CPU with the term OC Guide.

If you MB is not listed Google again using the MB "Chipset" & CPU with the term OC Guide.

In Auto, at 9000Hz, my BIOS is showing 25v. I am going to assume that is fine.

    I have Patriot Memory 200EL series 2 Channel 4G = 8G Max; with a ASRock Z68 Extreme4 with a Intel I72600k.

With my CPU at 4.2GHz, I then set everything to manual 2000MHz, 9-11-9-17, TRC=50 and Command Rate 2N all @ 1.65v. I was not able to boot when changing TRC from 200 down to 50 as the XMP states.

I believe because I overclocked my CPU to 4.2GHz do you think this is the reason why I can't boot. I will run some tests later with my CPU not overclocked and see if I can boot with TRC being at 50 not 200.

What do you all think ?
    Thanks,
    Dell

1.65v is the max you should be running your ram with a sandy cpu like yours.Really, you shouldn't even go that high and you should keep it at 1.60v. !.65v is very hard on the mem controller in the cpu and it could def shave the life of your cpu down a bit. your ram timings for 2000mhz are way off, that probably part of the reason its not booting correctly. Don't follow the xmp settings, they are usually wrong are def not good for a stable 24/7 setup, especially if overclocking. What kind of heatsink do you have on your cpu? What fans are you using on it? Are the ram fan cooled too? What case are you using and what fans are in it and in what positions? Are you manually setting your cpu vcore? Could you list the exact model of your ram too?!

It's also worth pointing out that ram speed is about the least important thing in the computer. It's worth getting it to the specs of the memory and turning down that voltage but really the real world performance gain isn't something you would likely even notice. It's worth looking into but mostly the voltage aspect I feel is the real thing I would worry about. I am only mentioning this because you say that you are able to get the system to work at 4.2ghz and might step back away from that to see if you can get the memory to boot correctly at the timings recommended. It would take some benchmarks but I wouldn't be at all surprised if the 4.2ghz overclock at slower memory speeds would be faster then scaling back the overclock but improving the memory timings.

Thank you everyone for your input, I had lowered my VDram voltage down to 1.59v. I'm stable and I found out that ram doesn't really do a whole lot for bench-marking scores, But I needed to show myself that over reading all the forms out there. I'm really happy with my computer speeds the temperatures and the speed of my data transfer rate is pleasing.

    Thank you again,

    Hey Maxfly,

I have my Vcore voltage at 1.25v

I use to run the CPU at 5.Ghz, back 4 years ago but not anymore. Let me know if this helps , and I would like to see your stats when you get the 2600k overclocked.

    Thanks,
    Dell
