I was not aware of this...
I was going to play the open beta but I'm not so sure anymore, I think Jay is right, maybe we should just wait a bit more until Blizzard investigate the issue and subsequently fix it. I own an EVGA RTX 3080 Ti FTW3 ULTRA, but even though I haven't seen any reports on my particular model I believe the best thing to do here is wait, and btw, my card is FPS capped AND undervolted to 0.881V, even so, I don't trust I'm 100% safe. Like Jay said, this might be a bizarre game coding issue totally unrelated to any driver/software settings, but it sure could be low quality components like he also suggested, and as for those who had their cards bricked/fried the manufacturer should absolutely replace all of the faulty cards or at least compensate the users somehow if this is proven to be a production quality issue.

It’s important to remember that the game is right now in closed beta with an open beta soon.
It’s not a game that has came out yet.
This said it shouldn’t be happening on any game but if you are beta testing games it’s probably best to put a frame rate cap on.

I have played Diablo IV for over 20 hours on my EVGA Hydro-copper FTW 3080ti. No issues what so ever.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was something that was quickly patched if Jay2Cent posted a video about it. The problem was probably letting the card run as fast as it could during the cutscene cutscene and overheating it.

Perhaps. But there's many games out there that will run menus and cut scenes at thousands of FPS and they're not causing issues. The only true example of an app or game being damaging that I know of, is Furmark, which is flagged in the drivers to reduce power draw. There must be some defect in the GPU boost algo that is allowing this to happen.

HeavyHemi There must be some defect in the GPU boost algo that is allowing this to happen.
The defect is that NVIDIA uses average-based power limits which means that if you go from low load to high load, a power transient excursion is guaranteed to happen. Additionally, NVIDIA effectively disabled overcurrent protection in the card's reference design, since it was otherwise plagued by blackscreen "crashes". So, since there is no overcurrent protection, and power transients are guaranteed to occur, in games with high boost and high FPS where a sudden increase in load suddenly occurs, the cards with the highest average power limits and the cheapest VRM, fail abnormally often.

I have before. You made up your mind 2 years ago. There is no reason for me to provide sources again. You won't watch 2 hours of video. You don't care to learn or reason based on data. Gamersnexus, Der8auer, and Buildzoid. It's all there for you to find. I don't keep an encyclopedia of links. You are not worth my time.

I just find that if it was something besides frame rate then why does setting a cap help fix the issue? I also feel it's interesting that the games that have ran into the issue are still in beta so possibly some code wasn't written correctly.

I already answered above. It's the condition of low load and high boost transitioning to high load which kills cards. Capping framerate helps let the boost drop when not needed, so there is slower ramp up and smaller power spike when the load increases. I also feel it's interesting that the games that have ran into the issue are still in beta so possibly some code wasn't written correctly.
Not true. Two games which weren't in Beta also claimed many video card deaths. Halo MCC and World of Warships. I think the Beta part is just what got the headlines and imaginations going. There were many deaths to Halo MCC way before New World came out.

I've been playing the closed and open beta of Diablo IV and there is quite a bit of load on my GPU (RTX 4090), but no hardware issues so far. I am hopeful that Blizzard can continue to improve game play and GPU load. The imagery and game play are really good.

If you look its been a lot of Gigabyte cards, I will tell you around the time their 3080 TI launched there was a huge batch of all their 30 series cards that had faulty vram to vram not installed correctly at the factory. I have been watching those cards on some discords get bricked be it DOA, DOA in weeks, to months to years. I imagine how much of a vram hog D4 is right now as the catalyst pushing these cards finally over the edge on owners. I have had to help multiple people with that issue on the CPPC discord. A lot of pc buyers would groan while all of this went on... Between this, the gigabyte psu's and some of their early boards during the lockdowns all going out is why I have refused to touch a single gigabyte product, especially how they handled the explosive psu's I owned one. If I didn't trust my gut and tried to blame my PC' instability on something else, my pc would have been a casualty of that crap show.

If you have so much spare time, why don't you do it yourself? What I said is fact, not theory. If it is anyone's theory, it definitely is not mine. I would say it is the conclusion determined by measurement and research. I will give you no effort. I have already beat this horse too many times. Insults? What are you talking about? How did I insult you? Why do you feel so threatened as to call me a mentally disabled raging keyboard warrior for simply having a logical discussion. Who here is the unstable one?

Hemi, let's try something different. 1) Show me reputable proof of people hitting a reference 30xx card's OCP limit without other modifications. That will test whether or not NVIDIA effectively disabled OCP (as measurement and research has concluded). 2) Tell me why you think EVGA retired and replaced the Rev 0.1 3090 FTW3. That will test whether you have put any effort into researching the topic, or whether you are just here to argue with baseless accusations fruitlessly.
