Wow EVGA... just wow! This is why the company has taken a huge dive over over the last 7 or 8 years. FYI two of your Mobos died on me too... X79 and the gen before that. Can't say enough bad about this company... whereas I used to hype EVGA and be a fanboy. **Thus the reason they redacted their lifetime warranties and gone completely short term. Horrible quality... Funny note... this GPU died 18 days after my warrant ran out (3yr warranty), a bit too coincidental.

I understand being upset that your GPU died in this hellscape of a GPU apocalypse were in, but no EVGA doesn't time their cards to die as soon as the warranty expires. The reason they changed their lifetime warranty was because people were abusing it. I still have a few EVGA cards in operation well outside their warrantied period. 1 RTX 2080 XC, 2 GTX 1080 FTW3s and a GTX 980 SC. All fine and all in working order. It was just bad luck on your part that yours died.

Warranties are based on statistics, and product design choices are made based on pricing, marketability, competition, profitability, and warranties. Just saying. (I'm not surprised.) You aren't the first. And it is usually the same components which fail over and over and over again. It's almost like they aren't surprised and don't care. This is one reason why I tend to buy the cheapest version of a product, modify it the way I want, and not care about voiding warranties. My card was a b-stock model, the warranty is long expired, and it performs like none of its competition.

Great points that both Crap and Tyger made. Heres the stuff i have thats evga and still working just fine: 780I FTW, P67 FTW, 2 - 8800 GTS 320's, 1 - 260 core 216, 1 - 560ti, 1- GTX780 with a 980ti AIO..... and then there's the stuff in my sig. I have plenty of other stuff too from them and other vendors and have very rarely ran into rma issues. All that said, i do take care of my stuff and keep things way cooler than anything thats suggested and have filters that i clean on my case all the time. Of course theres always the silicon lottery but i find alot of people do not take care of their parts and run them way hotter than they should which just eats them alive. I know this may be a unpopular opinion, but maybe look into exactly what went wrong with the card and try to make sure you dont put a new piece of tech in the same situation cause the newer and smaller the parts get the more sensitive they will be. Good luck to you finding a replacement.

While I think eVGA has taken a large turn for the worse in terms of customer service (which is why I won't exclusively purchase their GPUs after this generation (RTX 30 series), I personally do not think it was timed to die after the warranty ran out. Components (which they undoubtedly chose the cheapest version of to save costs) do die over time... Cheap or expensive....if it's out of warranty, and you can tell what 'blew out'...if a capacitor or resistor ....maybe find someone who knows what they're doing with soldering and have it 'fixed'? Dunno...

There are so many variables with electronics. Never posts about or controls those, just blasts a company for making a product that lasts a certain amount of time.

I tend to see motherboards die from AM2 and AM3 a lot but AM4 has been swapped out when X570 offered PCIe 4.0 The MSI X570 board seems rugged and able to handle my needs fine with 32GB DDR4 and (Radeon graphics) I retired my RTX 2080 for an Radeon RX 6900 XT

It's always sad when a card dies but normally 3 years is what I typically expect to own a card for. That said the extended 5 year warranty makes sense to me since I kind of consider that the maximum time the card probably has real gaming value at least to me. For some they might want to do the 10 year since it still can probably play the latest games at medium or low graphics settings or lower resolutions. I personally look at the optional 5 and 10 years as a good way to know my card is built to last since EVGA wouldn't offer the warranty extensions if it was made to last just past 3 years as they would lose money on everyone who buys the extension.

Agree the extended 5 year at a minimum makes min max sense from the standpoint of playability and replacement efficiency. On the other hand, I have just now placed a second RMA: on a 2080 XC that had a fan shaft snap causing the blade assembly to fly off into the case, 4 months before the 3yr base warranty would have expireed. 1st RMA: 3 years ago had a 1080 FTW just brick for no reason on boot, 11 months before 3yr warranty would expire. I assiduously clean and over-cool our cards, and ceased using warranty breaking liquid cooling with the 980's as TDPs continued to drop. Since we never OC our cards, stress on these RMA's would not have been untoward or anything out of expected probability ranges. Lesson to me was get at least that 5 yr which you can get on a new card when you register it. Now, we still have a bunch of EVGA 970 and 980's in our built machines, all out of warranty now, and that 1080 FTW is now out of warranty and still working like a champ. Here's hoping we will keep them all healthy for another twelve months! :)

I upgraded the warranty on my 2080TI to five years, after I stepped up. I wasn't sure about the next gen...so I decided to hold on to this one. When the time comes...I will probably put the 2080TI in my secondary rig, where I have a 1060 and pass the 1060 on to my son's rig. Keep these in the family. Hopefully when the 4000 series come out...the industry will have found it's sanity and the pricing won't all be gouged. If it is still crazy...I am not worried...my 2080 TI still performs where I need it to. I have little or NO faith in Nvidia

If you have already completed the step up process and did not purchase the extended warranty on the card you are stepping up from, you can not purchase an extended warranty on the card you received in your step up.
