I’m worried my trident royal Z’s won’t achieve 4600 XMP settings with this board. On gskill’s website they are QVL for both z490 dark & kp.

Does anyone have further detailed information on the difference between these mobos?

Regardless of whether it will achieve the speeds you want, I would contact customer support and ask why you weren't provided with a like for like replacement. Did you OK them sending back a tier lower board?

Did you try updating to bios 1.07? It also may help if you set manual io/sa volts.

Specswise there are none, except KP board is rated for 5000MHZ RAM, while normal Dark is rated for up to 4800. For your 4600MHZ RAM either board is good.

Also KP board has Vince's signature on the box.

I would ask them if they have a plan to send you a KP board and if this was to hold you over. The KP is $100 more they should provide a identical replacement.

I can see the difference between the ftw and the dark but from dark to king pin I do not see any advantage? as their spec are same

    Z490 Dark = $499.99
    Z490 Dark K|ngp|n = $599.99.

Seems like a difference to me...

OP, did they send a check for $100 with the motherboard?

Im curious if you have had a chance to test your z490 dark yet and how is it performing with memory clocking? How does it compare to the kingpin edition? Ive got a regular z490 dark on the way and i know the kingpin is a beast with memory overclocking and im just hoping the regular dark is decent. Hopefully it does good with 2x16gb dims.

I haven’t seen any mention of this, but XMP profiles may not be compatible with the CPU as well. While the motherboard can have some affect, so can the CPU and its own memory controller.

My CPU does not like my 3600mhz ram, so I have to run it at 2800mhz.

I'd be concerned that they sent me a 100 dollar cheaper motherboard.

Regardless if spec's are the same or not.

If they're going to send back a cheaper motherboard they should send the difference in a check.

    My opinion...yours may vary.

Seems there is "improved memory support" --> not sure how that is achieved - just BIOS or some hardware changes ?

I wouldn't have accepted the Dark as replacement for the KP. It should have been a KP or refund.

I'd pay an extra $100 if Vince personally tested the board , otherwise who cares about the nominal memory speed boost (allegedly) , but as was said, it should've been model for model or refund, period.
