Well got some goodies in today to start an upgrade on Saturday. I really wanted a 3rd gen Threadripper but a Ryzen 9 3950X 16 core CPU , motherboard, and 64GB of memory will be just fine. My 2nd gen Threadripper only has 12 cores.

The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. Setting aside price, Threadripper vs Core? Winner?

Been an intel person forever, but it’s looking like they are flailing... is Threadripper the real deal?

Yes it is. Unless you have a specific application that use AVX512 it actually not even close.

Any review on the internet will tell the same story.

RJ's 16 core 3950x beats Intel's 18 core 10980xe in most benchmarks that aren't synthetic like Adobe Premier. Threadripper is in a different league. Faster single core, and more of them.

The only trump card Intel currently has is overclocking headroom. Stock vs stock performance? AMD wins in everything except gaming and even then AMD is pretty damn close. Where AMD falters is overclocking headroom namely in that they really don't have any. With AMD you're gonna top out at about 4.3Ghz give or take 50Mhz if you're lucky for an all core speed. With Intel you're looking at 4.6-4.8Ghz easy with their HEDT parts and this brings the performance between them almost even in a lot of the benchmarks and for gaming this clearly separates them as AMD just can't get the clock speeds to match them. Intel's mainstream parts like 9700K and 9900K are still alone at the top of the gaming performance hill however as these chips routinely hit 5Ghz or more all core and AMD just simply can't keep up with that.

I wanted to take a picture but the cable management looked so bad I had to tell myself to wait. I've got a few days off so I'll try and squeeze some time in to make the cabling look good. Maybe a good time to also clean out some dust.

Nice choices.  New gen Threadripper may be too rich for my blood...but the 3950X looks like a GREAT processor.  Want to see how far you can push the chip on all cores...

What you see below is what the PC looks like now with all cable ties cut and everything loose before I attempt to redo ALL of the cable management. So yes it's a mess right now. I also have 4 fans in the front that have no RGB displayed so I need to figure that out:

Those who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way.

A wise man once said that we can't make anyone feel or do anything. We can throw things into the wind, but it's up to each person to decide how they want to react, where they want to stand when things fall.
