It's weird that they never released a Wii U version in the original one...perhaps they'll release this one for the Switch?

They announced in development Wii U for Pcars 1, but in the end they had to announce it wasn't possible because of the lack of processing power of the Wii U. PC, XBox One, and PlayStation 4, will be the available platforms for Pcars 2.

My guess is Nintendo wants Mario Kart to be the racing game for the Switch every switch owner is playing though they might release a new F-Zero. Really the Switch isn't bad but it seems like Nintendo is going in it's own direction and I would be surprised if 3rd parties really come around to Nintendo. Also I am not trying to make fun of Mario Kart it's just that the players Nintendo has been going for don't seem to be the "hardcore" realistic players but more of people who want family fun and more social games that are easy to pick up and play.

I think ovals and the AI are the biggest complaints at this point. After that it gets pretty subjective. Everyone is an expert and thinks they know how a car should handle or how a track should be or whatever, IDK what they are comparing it to. Personally, I think there are massive improvements over the first game that I am certain they were unable implement in the first game without rewriting it.

This guy didn't like PC1. Here is his review on PC2. He does mention something that he thinks might be a bug with VR, but if I am right, I think what he is talking about is actually an adjustment for World Movement (I think it's called).
As for F1 "like" cars go, SMS have there hands pretty tightly tied with Codemasters having an exclusive license, which might be why they are not even allowed to copy the rules, but I'm not sure on that.

Re: Project Cars 2 2017/09/28 09:39:54 (permalink)
After much hesitation, I took the plunge and bought Pcars 2.
I was an early access donator for Pcars1 and ended up being very unhappy with the finished product due to all kinds of issues.

I was hoping that Pcars 2 would be a huge step forward based on their claims.
With mixed reviews available from outlets that actually have a clue when it comes to sim racing, I didn't buy at first.
I am heavy into iRacing and have many hours on rFactor2, R3E, Assetto Corsa, and Automobilista for comparison.

TL;DRISRTV review

My impression a few hours into it matches those mixed feelings.
  • FFB is pretty good, especially with the Jack Spade custom files.
  • Overall handling feels much better than the first game, and the menu system is miles ahead.
  • At least an attempt was made to improve multiplayer with some sort of rating system.
  • Tons of cars and tracks to choose from.
On the other hand:
  • First race replay I watched showed my car billowing smoke everywhere like I was doing one continuous drift around the track.
  • Some cars are great, some feel like they were patched in just to increase the count.  Some cars instantly drive like you are on ice at low enough speed.
  • AI is inconsistent when moving between different types of cars (but I have had some OK races with difficulty way up and aggression turned down)
  • Some tracks are very well represented, while others have low quality textures and vary greatly from other laser scanned versions.  Also there are Pcars billboards plastered everywhere...
  • First lap of Nurburgring, my car rose over a crest and shot into the air like a harrier jet taking off vertically...
  • Sounds are hit or miss as well.  Some are really bad (tire noise).

Is it better than the first game?  Definitely
Is it better than all those other sims I play?  Sometimes
I think there is enough there to have a lot of fun with this game, even though it falls short of promises made by Slightly Mad.

When Pcars 2 gets it right, it is really amazing (try IMSA LMP1/GTE at Long Beach).
When it doesn't, it gives you that same disappointing feeling as playing pCars1.

The rest is up to you...

I don't think so. Those days seem to have passed.  Nintendo is actively pursuing 3rd party developers at the moment and some 3rd party developers have reported that their decision to develop for the Switch has been very profitable and that Nintendo has been very loyal to them and non-restrictive.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEJYN_fcdcs

It will come down to the developer to decide whether there is enough of their player base on the Switch platform to justify their investment. Nintendo does not seem to be at all in the way any more.

I bought PC1, but never really got into it.  It seemed a tiny bit shallow content wise.  I may have to snag a copy of PC2.   This looks fantastic!   I am also going to pick up Forza 7 shortly.

I am the most excited about the VR implementation.      I have been wanting that for years for racing games, head movement is so important when driving on a track.

VR works well in Pcars 1 also, Pcars 2 was able to plan implementation from day one and therefor it is more refined, but honestly VR isn't the only thing to be excited about.  I can't comment on career mode though, I haven't been able to play since release, only during development and I didn't try career mode at all.

I've played maybe 4 - 5 hours so far.  It's a lot of fun.  I enjoyed the 1st one as well and this one is good too.  One of the improvements I like is the Race Engineer.  I'm not that knowledgeable with using/setting up all the car tweaks available so being able to describe my racing issue's and have things suggested to try out is nice.

With the holidays here now, I won't get much time for racing, but if anyone asked me if I'd recommend this SIM, I would.  I'm really just getting started with PCars2, but so far no complaints...

Ha, Ha When I saw all the Stangs in the vid, I thought of you I was surprised to see the Bronco myself. In the beginning I pushed for Trophy Trucks (Baja) and some desert off road racing. I sent some pics and vehicle stats, but I got nothing. I heard nothing, saw nothing until this DLC and the Bronco. Oh, Oh, Merry Christmas! Only, I haven't been able to play since launch, life problems, hope to soon though.
