Eventually demand will level off and there will be a surplus.

Re: Production apparently increasing... 2020/09/24 20:59:28 (permalink)
Well, it is as I've been saying since launch: stock has been "scarce" since launch.  If I am translating Jacob's words with my detective's mind properly it means eVGA is making more, shipping more, making more available more often.  This is good.  Because at least for the eVGA Store, inventory stock is going from "scarce" levels to possibly "nominal" levels or even "optimal" levels.

Imagine a day soon where eVGA potentially has all 5 3080's they are currently selling in stock simultaneously and have say 800-1200 of each to sell at once.  That's 4000-6000 available of all cards at once.  When scalpers see those numbers enough they start to pause because the card(s) are becoming more common in the world.  And many don't have the financial resources to keep up buying them all up at every restock, every time.  Even they will run out of money.  Now the other retailers/eTailers have to catch up.

Jacob, I know you may never see this post but if do I pose this question: are your words saying that the eVGA Store is going from "scarce" level stock of the 3080 (all models) to "nominal" level or "optimal" level sooner than later?

The bots are primed for any restocks. Even if they cannot check out the insane traffic basically DDOSes the entire site and even Elites cannot finish checkout. They need Cloudflare or something to block the traffic BEFORE it reaches the site.

Cloudflare doesn't stop bots from doing these things, it slows them down, but doesn't even remotely stop them.

It's "fake news" without elaboration.  Jacob is going to be shilling for EVGA cause it's his literal job.  That means words are going to be twisted, truth stretched, lying-by-omission.

Saying production is increasing is a "well no shiz Sherlock" comment.  Of course production is going to increase, it doesn't convey any actual usable information like when you can buy one without the store server collapsing.

Kind of nuts that they have essentially three factor authentication via phone, online account log in token and product registration and literally 90% of what they had in stock is currently on ebay from like 15 people. Of course, doing such would mean sales would be guaranteed and properly vetted, but much slower, and we can't have slower; jensen can't afford his daily leather jacket with just steady sales.

You talk to anybody off the record and this is 100% deliberate, so you can probably look forward to the same next time and next gen.

Stock is good but before even putting it up in cart it should also be the right pricing, EU Store is still not fixed and prices are double VAT so it makes it almost 50% more expensive than the US (1140$ so 980€ for the FTW3 when it should be 944$ so 810€ for the FTW3). Hopefully since no stock should arrive before next week they'll have time to fix the store since they are currently enhancing the checkout experience (and hopefully that include EU Store).

Since this isn't a limited item like sneakers, as time goes on it'll become increasingly riskier for scalpers to try and make money off the 3080s. Should see prices drop and scalper stock vanish completely eventually.

Jacob, In 2020, the race for cyber security for businesses is probably the number 1 concern. Times have changed.

You literally have hackers running bots from their own bedrooms. Doesn't matter what product they go after: Shoes, Purses, Playstation 5's, Xbox Series X, NVidia 3080 or 3090 whatever. They will abuse the system and sell everything on Ebay.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cKGOzcxoig&t=104s

Look at the video and go to 1:40 in the video and you will see how a kid like this has a program running that spams the checkout process with his bot. That's basically what happened in the 3080 launch, the 3090 launch and will happen again in the 3070 launch unless EVGA gets serious about upgrading their security.

This is the new reality and it is the new world that we live in.

So the only way is to fight fire with fire, you guys can't allow yourselves to get hacked with DDOS attacks and E Commerce API Exploits each time.

Time to hire some Cyber Security Consultants and get some advice on how to protect the EVGA store from being hacked.

I would recommend checking out Crowdstrike, they protect against all kinds of intrusions and hacks.

https://www.crowdstrike.com/

^^ That's what we use in my company and it works great.

Great video! I literally lost my **** learning that scalper bots are themselves scalped and force users to go to seconhand markets to riskily purchase the bots secondhand... so they can go scalp products and sell them secondhand to others.

Waiting for the big 'ol meteor reset button, seriously.

Production ramp up was always going to happen. Right now what's arriving is airlifted supply. Eventually big shipments will arrive by boats

I wonder when there will be a point in time where there's new stock everyday. Not just once every few days or how it's like now.

Or how Gabe from Penny Arcade ripped on these garbage companies: "I thought I could just give them money, and they would give me a product. Isn't that how business normally works? Weird."

More production is good, but the real question is whether or not the store will be able to accommodate normal people attempting to purchase the cards.

Supply is only a piece of the problem.

It doesn't matter how many units you have in stock if the web site crashes every release.

This is the bigger issue here. A lot of people have been able to add cards to their cart so the stock has been there. But that doesn't matter if the site crashes.

I was trying to give EVGA my money for over an hour and 45 minutes before the card was out of stock and my purchase kept getting timed out or kicked out.  The "special" page for EVGA Elite members didn't help much.  I've never seen it be this difficult to make a $2000+ purchase online before. lol

I got to the same page and hit Place your order as many times as I could until the page broke. It came up as 38 separate pending charges on my credit card and my bank was like **** are you trying to do?  I wish I could get into a runner up que.
