Hey dear community,

I finally found the time to built the custom loop for my Hydro Copper KPE and the temps look amazing (30-40°C) and I was able to overclock it a bit in the beginning.

Was able to pull +80MHz on 1050mV and a +550MHz on the Memory clock for a few runs, then I wanted to test more.
I have the OC Bios activated, no custom BIOS or the likes, just the ones which came with the card

Now the problem:

- I have the card in PrecisionX set to default and no problems
- as soon as I put Power Target 130% and Temperature Limit to 90°C I can't even get Timespy to run - it will load and before even the first frame of test 1 it will abort back to desktop :/
- I tested PT 130% TL 90°C and Voltage Slider all the way up, still same problem
- installed latest driver, after I used last 388 version and still same issue
- also I noticed a really bad coil whine as soon there is load on the card, even on default settings

Any idea? :(

Best regards,
Yedi

check the power cables
What PSU?
Actually, what are the rest of the system specs?
Also give Afterburner a try - have heard better / stable results for OC'ng

Had same issues with Afterburner, also with a custom curve

Seasonic Prime Platinum 850W
Power Cables were absolutely fine, but have to verify.

Before I had the air cooled KPE and had absolutely no issues :/

To be clear this is a completely different KP card with the hydrocopper correct?
Age of the PSU?

With the GPU and VRM running cooler you can now pull more power - any weakness in the cables or PSU will now show up

Run the graphs with Afterburner and watch your temps and power draw and voltages at stock settings then start to do little steps up to see what starts to fail

It is a different card, yes. PSU is 2 months old. Will verify cables again once I am back home.

I think this is your PSU - http://www.jonnyguru.com/...op=Story2&reid=527
Are you running 2 separate cables to the GPU or 1 cable with 2 ends?

Will probably need Sajin or one of the other KP owners chime in with ideas and or expected thoughts on power needs. Your PSU only has 70 amps on the 12v rail to feed both the GPU and CPU

Test both the ln2 & normal vbios with the power target & temp target set to max. Can either one of those vbioses pass the benchmark with the power target & temp target maxed?

2 separate cables connected to the PSU. The PSU should definitely be more than enough to feed one GPU and one CPU. My air cooled I OCed as well and it ran even to 1093mV and had no issues under load.

Ok. Not sure as I only have one official vbios (the stock oc vbios) loaded to my kingpin.

Re: Problem overclocking 1080Ti K|NGP|N Hydro Copper 2018/03/03 09:57:54 (permalink)
Alright, I finally changed my case, where I have now more space between card and reservoir (before, the power cables were tight in between both :/) but still encountered instant crash to desktop during Timespy. Reinstalled 3dmark via steam and now everything back to normal.

Idle temps 28°C load temps by timespy 38°C and timespy extreme 41°C

I did OC with MSI Afterburner

When I use default settings with Power Target to 150% and Temp Limit to 90°C and Voltage to 100% I get 2012MHz by 1050mV

Max OC I was able to achieve is 2100MHz on the core and +550MHz on VRAM with 1062mV and even that is not 100% stable in Timespy (in Superposition 4K Optimized it is though even 2113MHz on 1062mV)

As soon as I go above that, regardless if voltage or core clock, it will crash in GPU Test 2

Any idea what else I can do here or did I reach the max? :/

Might be the CPU also a limiting factor why I cannot OC more as it seems?

I put the Extreme Watercooling OC VBIOS on the OC VBIOS switch

Cheers in advance,
Yedi

PPS: Interesting enough, I can even push it to +650MHz on the VRAM and it will run Time Spy Extreme stable

Is it normal that when I game (I have set Voltage slider to 100% and PT to 150% and Temperature Limit to +90, nothing else) and the card gets warmer, like 45°C that in order to keep the clock speed at 2012 goes up from 1050mV to 1075mV?

yeah use afterburner. should easily have 2100mhz going. unless it's you're psu or something...what those cards can pull like 200-250w right? with cpu oced and everything else and smaller unit might be cutting it close with that....

850W Platinum Season Prime is the PSU and new, should have plenty power. Sajin I am thinking about getting an i9-7900X would that be a good pick?

Alright, I did some benching and this is basically the max I can hit. I tried going down to 1025mV but wouldn't be able to achieve anything near 2100. But will give it some more testing tomorrow :)

Sajin regarding CPU Upgrade: I am thinking about a pre-binned i9-7900X which can run at least 4.6GHz with the EVGA X299 Dark. Which memory would you recommend for it? I don't want to go above 32GB since Memory currently is just stupid expensive :(

So, right now I was able to get a +902MHz on the VRAM @1.475V and 2113MHz on 1.05V for the Core. Will test further tomorrow. I have a feeling that the mainboard, due its age, is also a limiting factor. Will try to sell my air cooled 1080 Ti KPE for a decent price and then get the X299 Dark and 32GB RAM (any recommendations which goes along well with the mainboard and a 7900X?)

Good morning dear community,

I don't know if I am extremely lucky or not, but I was able to max out the slider on the Memory Clock to a whopping +1000MHz with 1.475V and the Core at 2113MHz @ 1.05V

Temperatures of Memory are in the mid to high 30's and the GPU itself is in the high 30's under water (280mm HWLabs radiator and 54mm thickness + 140mm eLoops)

I am using the Extreme OC VBIOS for Watercooling which Sajin posted some time ago on my OC VBIOS switch and I set Power Target to 150% and Temperature Target 90°C

As soon as I put 2126MHz @ 1.075V GPU-Z shows me Pwr and VRel at the PerfCap Reason

Any reason to go with the LN2 VBIOS Switch and see if I can get it stable at higher voltages with higher clock speeds, or will it not change anything?

Cheers in advance folks!

Which memory would you recommend for it?

The following kit would be go good with the dark... https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA8N25Z22037

Loading the vbios to the ln2 switch isn't going to help you.

Hey Sajin, the newegg link does not work :(

Okay, so just leave it as it is and be happy when it comes to the OC for now :)
