I will bench again tonight with the settings. Fortunately enough I do not need to worry about temperatures :) I wonder why I never switched to watercooling before

True, but I noticed with +850MHz I have a higher Graphics score than with +1000MHz

Does precision allow over +1000 on memory?  AB has me limited to +1000

Any way to go over?

Not that I know of, but maybe the other users know more. With Precision OX and AB you can only get +1000MHz

Only if you had access to the vbios.

Sajin, should I also lock the voltage on the core with the GTX Classified Tool and what settings you recommend?

If you want to get a higher overclock you'll need to increase the nvvdd voltage. Up to 1.2v should be ok on air, but I wouldn't run it at 1.2v 24/7.

Note: I did say adjusting the nvvdd voltage did nothing, but I was wrong, I had an issue with my config that lead me to believe it wasn't doing anything, but it does work.

That just how some pascal cards do...
But someh ow memory and fps scale perfectly with my Titan Xp. the higher I go-->  more fps.

what is your higheste gpu score with +850 ? keep going buddy! trying to get 12k my self, screem hard.. on normal water with 25c room temps.

Will give it a try, waiting for that spicy VBIOS and then will use the LN2 switch :P

Just throwing this out there. 3DMark does not seem to get along with Precision XOC's OSD. Time Spy fails every single time unless I shut it off. Afterburner's OSD works a lot better, but I need Precision for better fan control until I get a loop.

I have the Precision XOC OSD disabled, because I usually have GPU-Z with Sensors open on second screen.

Re: Problem overclocking 1080Ti K|NGP|N Hydro Copper 2018/03/15 16:52:42 (permalink)
Alright,

got my special VBIOS today and did some benching.

https://www.3dmark.com/spy/3451633

11000 even on Graphics score :)

MSI Afterburner used 1.2V and +268MHz which resulted in 2176MHz core (for every +12/13 MHz I had to go up by 0.025V) and a +1000MHz on the VRAM which makes 6496MHz (13GHz) with 1.475V on FBVDD. Temps were 40°C on the Core and backplate was 47°C by the GPU.

Now I wonder two things

a) When trying to use PrecisionX I can set whatever NVVDD I want in the GTX Classified Controller, it still will apply its own Voltage (1.05V to 1.062V).  Anything I can do to change it?
b) Is there a way by the custom curve in MSI Afterburner to go above the 1.2V? I am pretty confident that temperature wise I can handle a bit more.

Cheers in advance!

a. The classified controller settings override the settings shown inside xoc. So just ignore what is being shown.
b. Not unless msi afterburner extreme provides higher than 1.2v.

Hey Sajin,
seems like I cannot find the MSI AB Extreme for download anywhere and the issue is, in the XOC under the GPU temp, it shows the right voltage I set via the controller, but the voltage slider on the left of it shows a different one and also the GPU-Z sensors show different voltage than what I have set with the controller :/

There is no download for msi afterburner extreme. You have to ask for it. I never asked for it myself. You'll most likely need to contact unwinder the author of msi afterburner to get it.

Yes, software readings can be inaccurate. Using a digital multimeter to read the voltage is the best way to get an accurate reading.

Any voltmeter / multimeter works or specific one you can recommend? :)

Fluke is the best, but a cheap one will most likely do the job.

Yeah, just saw it. They are very expensive :D I found a few, but the pins are very thing, and not sure that they are good for the probe which comes with the KPE :/ Which plugs of the probe should I use for voltage measuring?

I highly doubt that I will find one for a reasonable price. Found something with a Raspberry Pi, but the files in the xdevs forums aren't available anymore. So that is no alternative either unless someone has those files.

Also there never been an EVBot on German ebay apparently :D Sadly it appears that they discontinued their plan from some years ago to combine their first Keyboard with an EVBot :(

Re: Problem overclocking 1080Ti K|NGP|N Hydro Copper 2018/03/31 12:06:28 (permalink)
Hey folks,

I got a question regarding the two Kingpins I have

When I want to overclock VRAM, when it is cooler, can it achieve even more?

I rebenched my air cooled and it can get under air 2113MHz @1.093V (1.15V DMM and 59°C) and +750MHz VRAM @1.475V (45°C it starts artifacting at the end of test 2 by timespy). My water cooled manages 2176MHz @1.2V and +1000MHz VRAM @1.475V but of course much cooler)

If I was putting the waterblock on the aircooled one, would I be able to get more VRAM clock or is it already maxed?

Cheers in advance!

Re: Problem overclocking 1080Ti K|NGP|N Hydro Copper 2018/04/03 21:25:23 (permalink)
So here we are again,

I did some testing in regards of overclocking, and I am getting a little tired that I can do only further overclocking with the curve in MSI AB. I noticed something when trying to overclock with offset only.

Before I got special VBIOS, I noticed that my card utilizes 1.05V when PT was set to 150% and the Voltage Slider set to 100%

When I try to overclock with GPU Clock Offset I noticed, that regardless which Voltage I set via GTX Classified Tool, it will never go over the 1.05V

With Curve I can achieve 2176MHz on 1.2V which is in the curve itself +268MHz (the curve looks like the standard curve and I simply set the 1.2V part to 2176MHz) and that runs stable and in all the monitoring tools it will show 1.2V as well on the DMM.

When using Offset only in combination with GTX Classified Tool, all software readings show 1.05V, only my DMM shows 1.2V
So I assume that when using only Offset, it won't really use the set voltage but rather what it thinks the sweetspot is.

Any idea / suggestions?

Cheers!
