The first challenge is the Happy New Year Challenge starting Jan 1 2018 at 00:00 to Jan 16 2018 00:00 (UTC)  For EST that's 7:00 PM on Dec 31.

Seventeen or Bust LLR. (SOB)

Things to watch out for if you want to test this before the start. PG will download as many tasks as you have threads. I got 4 on a quad core and 8 on a quad core with HT turned on. On the 8 thread the tasks started right away even though I had multi thread set up with the app_config (set up for 8T). These tasks push 20 hours with multi thread enabled. They would not all complete before start so I was forced to abort many of the tasks that had already started.(hate doing that) The way around this is to set your prefs for the % that corresponds 1 core or thread of your CPU. 25% on a quad core for instance. Also set your cache very low. After the work unit starts you can change prefs back to whatever you want to.
After the start of the challenge, this won't make much difference because of the 16 day length.

I'm still going to test 4T's on my 8 thread after turning off HT. Also will post times for them.

Here is the app_config pulled from the 2nd post of the challenge thread. Change (4) to whatever MT you want to run.

<app_config>
<app>
<name>llrSOB</name>
<fraction_done_exact/>
<max_concurrent>1</max_concurrent>
</app>
<app_version>
<app_name>llrSOB</app_name>
<cmdline>-t 4</cmdline>
<avg_ncpus>4</avg_ncpus>
</app_version>
</app_config>

Good luck, can we finish 3rd in a LLR challenge??

    Great, thanks for posting the Config File.
    Current Status: NOTE:  We are double checking old SoB work and tasks may be much shorter than typical SoB tasks.
    This is what it means:
    We're well beyond the point where the SoB project thoroughly double checked their work, so finding a missed prime is a possibility.
    Two of their primes were found while double checking their prior work.
    Will we find a third?

    On my Core i7-5960X using 12 Threads HT is ON Running 1 Tasks about 6 Hours
    On my Xeon(R) CPU E5-2667 v4 using 8 Cores 2 HT is OFF Running 2 Tasks about 16 Hours
    Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2680 v4 using 12 Cores 2 HT is OFF Running 2 Tasks about 8 Hours
    On my AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 6180 SE using 24 Cores Running 2 Tasks about 3.5+ Days
    On my AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 6180 SE using 48 Cores Running 1 Tasks about 2.5+ Days

    Sadly I will not have my X299 Core i9 7940X Processor Rig up and running for this Challenge.

    On my Ryzen 1700 @ 3.8Ghz tested a few setups the best so far appears to be
    3 tasks with 2 cores each at just under 2 days.  Edit - Looks like they are all going to settle around 2.75 days.
    tried 1 task with 6 cores and it settled at 2 days 20 hours (may have been a long task) it is still 1 of the 3 running and still at
    2 days 20 hours.

    The trick to Multithread is to try to keep the task in the CPUs cache memory and not have it go to stick or disk more than it has to.
    So a single processor run one task, 2P system run 2 tasks, 4P run 4 tasks
    I have found on my 2P 2011 8 cores each, I have ran with and without HT, normally HT on helps some
    HT on or off depends on the size of the task, it may not scale up to 16 threads very well.
    I am going to leave HT off I think. I may try it both ways.
    Trying to get the other Mother boards swapped out still
    Also trying to get all the PG projects under one app_config file so I do not have to keep changing them

    My app_config file is too long to post anymore for PG
    12 Cores or 12 Threads Seems to be the Magic Number.

    Sometimes Windows will park a CPU Core to save I have no Clue but is sometimes reduce the Power of all your Cores.
    I have been tuning it off for years now and forgot to check after the last Forced Windows OS update.

    Core Parking. Core Parking is a sleep state, C6, supported by most modern processors and Operating Systems. Core Parking dynamically disables CPU cores in an effort to conserve power when idle. Disabled cores are re-enabled as the CPU load increases once again

    I believe I turn off C6 in my bios, but good to check the registry also.  Thanks for the reminder.

    Edit - I did find that windows decided one of my machines needed to revert to the 388.13 in the last 2 days though.

    I have everything over c1 disabled in the BIOS
    So do I need to check? I have every core maxed most of the time anyway.

    It Would not hurt to check the Registry keys posted above, their is 2 sometimes 3 to change.
    It is easy to see in Windows 7 and Server OS
    Image On The Way. (Somewhat like this) As Shown in Resource Monitor in Windows 7 & Server 2007 R2

    My hardware does not like this project. I'm in but 50% after 12 hours? That's the fastest one. Crazy slow.
    One Linux rig won't take the app_config so will drop 4 tasks 5 days from now.

    Mine does not either.
    One of my rigs has 6 days on all work units and the other has 4 days. So I am not going to be much help in this challenge.

    ok - I stand corrected. I put Bill1024's app_config in and all of the work units take 2 days.
    So, sorry I did not read ahead and thanks Bill1024, the file changed all my machines to 2 days down from 6 and 4 days without the update app_config.
    It's running fine - Yaay
    I have 10 CPUs each running on three machines.

    My one system will take 14.5 days per task!!!
    I have a feeling it will be a little faster, I hope.

    That Ryzen, what model, how many cores/threads, what CPU speed, running multitask or one task per core, HT on or off?

    On the 2P intel, how many tasks running, mutithreaded, how many cores per task?
