When will we be able to pre-order the new Z490 boards? Most others are already available today on Newegg/Amazon.

20th of May for most stuff, EVGA are always late. They will give you the classic TBC or whatever. Also, will the usual vendors sell these, the EU store does not exist anymore.

Yeah. I've not been on here for a while... what happened. Has the EU sales team closed down? Or is it just that everything is out of stock as we await a product cycle refresh? I wanted to buy some bits and bobs, but I really don't want to go through the hassle of getting stuff from the US and having customs hassles.

the US store is out of a ton of product also. i have a feeling that nvidia was gonna announce ampere or whatever in march and inventory was being dwindled ahead of it, with things delayed another couple months the inventory situation is especially bad. idk.

there was a videocardz rumor about financial trouble and layoff last fall also. havent ever heard more about it.

say what you want about rumors, but videocardz has a really good track record for accuracy.

i do feel bad for the EU folks. id be super bummed if i couldnt get what i wanted

Thanks. It is nothing major... just wanted some EVGA braided cables. US sells them currently for c.$50, but by the time I add delivery, customs and sales tax... $100-ish. EU would sell them for c.€50, but out of stock. If it comes to it I will just get a UK custom cable shop for run some up for me, but that will be much more expensive than €50.

Probably US focussed, the prices never translated well anyway. EVGA US always has good offers, the EU one was a rip off, personally they likely do not care. Scan is your best bet if they arrive at retail stores, if not, buy gigabyte as their VRMs/cooling is the best in present times and have a UK RMA centre.

Well... the only think that I really need / want is black braided cables for my 1200 P2. Scan no longer sell EVGA braided cables. The EU store has them listed for only about €50 which is a good price, but no availability (nor for most other things either).

EVGA EU did - at least in the past - have some good deals. For example I got my X299 Dark half price... so epic board for the price of a mid range board. No idea what it has been like recently as I've not been keeping an eye on things.

As to your recommendation, I very much like EVGA products and their customer service. But I agree... looking at the Z490 boards for example the Gigabyte mid and high end boards look good. Also MSI have some nice mid and high end boards. The MSI X490I Unify stands out... 8 phase, 10 layer PCB, TB3, mITX... looks like a little powerhouse. Besides that the Dark looks great (16 phase and 10 layer PCB), but as usual with the Dark the "feature set" is unspectacular besides doing all the electron things exceptionally well. So no 10GbE, no TB3, no iGPU passthrough. Given that the attractiveness of the Dark compared to the Godlike or Xtreme depends on price with the others at $750-800. I would like TB3, personally, but it is not a deal breaker.

But I don't really need a Z490 system. It is the PSU cable upgrade that I really want.

Thanks / yes. Considered, but €50 from EVGA is a better price. Besides, for what I need for what Cablemods EU is charging I'd rather get bespoke ones done by James at Pexon PCS. (I could even build them myself, but that is a major ball ache. I've done it before and while I am good at measuring and crimping accurately with strong mechanical joints on the pins, I could never really get the hang of heat shrink less braiding that looked both neat and fused reliably to the connector pins).

    My Z390 Dark was $499.

Is the Z490 Dark going to offer double the performance? If not, how can they justify double (or nearly so) the price? I am serious, I really would like to know.

Personally it is unlikely, $599 will be my guess. But you gotta pay Intel tax, even though they are being outsold by AMD. They do not lower prices, only raise them.

This is why you never trust random sources. This was originally from an article linking a Z390 Dark on Newegg from a 3RD PARTY SELLER. I'm certain the board will not cost this much. One article made a mistake and now others are copying them lol.

AnandTech needs to correct that article ASAP. EVGA marketing dropped the ball by not correcting them on that. Even if they don't mention a price, they could say that the current number is wrong.

The only boards at or above $1,000 include water blocks, 10Gbe, TB3 and a ticket to Disneyland. (Well... three of those things anyways).

EVGA says wait, when the launch is official we will all be able to see the price. I am guessing this is a misquote and people are assuming it is a fact... the prices even show as estimates, and as stated previously, the wrong board was linked initially.

It is a little weird EVGA are the only ones making us play the waiting game lol... Most boards are already ready for pre-order and have their own support pages with memory support shown. There really is no point in waiting this long.. You're losing out in sales by other companies while you tell us to "Wait and see", but what do I know lol.

Pretty sure the Dark will be priced within $100 dollars range of the Aorus Xtreme (not waterforce), Maximus 12 Apex, and MSI Godlike, because those are its direct competitors.
Pricing it more than $100 below that range would be eVGA undercutting themselves for a board that is VERY EXPENSIVE to produce, and more than $100 above that means no one would buy it, unless it offered something substantial that no one else offered and marketed as such.

as long as it is reasonably priced. Within  ~100$ of the Z390Dark I will pre-order.  Looking forward to playing with 10900k.

I saw $926 as an estimated price for the Z490 Dark.

    Seriously?

i pinged the author of the anandtech articlein discord and he will update or confirm the article price in the AM... european time.

     edit:
Gavin has removed the prices pending a price confirmation with jacob in the AM.
he agrees the price seems "far fetched"

Pretty sure the Dark will be priced within $100 dollars range of the Aorus Xtreme (not waterforce), Maximus 12 Apex, and MSI Godlike, because those are its direct competitors.
Pricing it more than $100 below that range would be eVGA undercutting themselves for a board that is VERY EXPENSIVE to produce, and more than $100 above that means no one would buy it, unless it offered something substantial that no one else offered and marketed as such.

the apex is 399. i already ordered one from newegg. 423$ after tax.
the maximus extreme would be the flagship competitor. thats a 750$ board.

the dark will be competing most with the apex. it needs to be damn near that 399 or 499 price at worst. 925$ is an insta flop, and im gonna buy it also, but not for 900$

I would consider it >$600. But, lack of PCIe 4 is really the deal-breaker.

No wonder AMD is doing so well, with Intel re-hashing (more than usual) old tech.

It is a little weird EVGA are the only ones making us play the waiting game lol... Most boards are already ready for pre-order and have their own support pages with memory support shown. There really is no point in waiting this long.. You're losing out in sales by other companies while you tell us to "Wait and see", but what do I know lol.

EVGA is a lot smaller company that most of the big ticket manufacturers, and there has only been a few I stances where they did pre-orders throughout history. They typically end up being sold out, so they aren’t losing anything, as they are selling the same quantity just to different buyers.

Oh! $400 is a nice price for the Apex. Details on the Apex are still pretty thin. Anand saying 16x 70A power phases. In terms of features it includes TB3. Apex boards are usually very solid.
