I know that you should almost never interchange power supply cables from different companies due to the risk of damaging components, but with that in mind I have looked up the cable layouts for EVGA and Corsair and have a question.

Attached is an EVGA and a Corsair PCI-Express power supply cable. They seem to be identical except for on the PSU side there is an 5th ground on the EVGA while the Corsair has a blank cable that appears to do nothing.

My question is, would it be dangerous to have an extra ground? I bought the 12 pin $40 cable from EVGA (left configuration) and I want to be able to use it. My power supply is from Corsair. (HX850i)

This is the cable in question:

Thanks guys!

They aren't dangerous to hook up, but they simply don't work. There's a safety mechanism in there that doesn't trigger and makes the cord unusable. I know because I tried this by plugging a Corsair cable into an EVGA PSU and it provided no power.
