I just replaced my previos MoBo (MSI Pro Gaming Carbon) with the x299 Dark. For some reason my RAM is extremely underperforming (XMP 1) and pulling my overall performance way down. Any thoughts? its driving me crazy. Just for reference I scored 1890 points under Passmark PT 9.0 the score for the same memory modules under de MSi Pro Carbon was 3191, I cant find what is causing such a big difference in performance. I dont want to invest in new memory modules until been sure that it is a compatibility issue and discard a MoBo problem. i7 7980xe 16gb Corsair CMK16GX4M283200C16 2X 2080ti EVGA 1600P2 Custom Loop

It's because you're only running two sticks of ram, so the memory is only running in dual channel mode. You need a quad channel kit.

Installing System Memory (Page 34) Your X299 DARK has (4) 288-pin slots for DDR4 memory. These slots support 4GB, 8GB and 16GB DDR4 DIMMs. There must be at least one memory slot populated for the board to boot and operate. The Intel ® X299 chipset supports Quad- Channel DDR4 memory, a maximum of 64GB and up to 4000MHz+for Skylake-X, and 4133MHz+ for Kaby Lake-X (OC)+. It is recommended to always use a 4 DIMM Quad Channel kit for Skylake-X, or a 2 DIMM kit for Kaby Lake-X. Fill the memory slots in the following order: 2, 4, 3, 1. See chart to the right: (See Page 34) Triple/Dual-Channel kit configurations are also possible but provide reduced potential memory bandwidth of Skylake-X processors. I am using Slots 2 and 4 on both my motherboards without any issue.Ripjaws V Series 3200 (PC4 25600) F4-3200C14Q-64GVKMy Memory is supported in 1-4 or 2+4 https://www.evga.com/support/motherboard/F4-3200C14Q-64GVK 16 64 3200 14-14-14-34 1.35V 1-4 1 SKX F4-3200C14Q-64GVK 16 32 3200 14-14-14-34 1.35V 2+4 1 SKX I will run petst in later today on mine with 4 and with 2 and post back.

Both Darks are running the Same i9-7940X Processor as well as the Same Memory Same OC Same Bios Settings. Look at EACH Test, some are Higher with 2 and some are Higher with 4 Dark A 2 Sticks 32GB Dark B 2 Sticks 32 GB Dark B 4 Sticks 64GB Dark A 4 Sticks 64GB So the question is more memory better or 2 -v- 4 I Did not do mark the Memory so I retested after going back to 2 but I must have paired them well because the Scores are now Higher Dark A Dark B I would end this that if the Memory is Supported in a 1-4 or a 2-4 then it really make not that big of a difference. Being that your Memory is only listed on the UK Corsair Website see if you can get another pair to install.

You are running 4 Memory Sticks it is more of an issue with the OP and running only 2 Memory Sticks Now if you can remove 2 Memory Sticks and use only 2 in Slots 2-4 and rerun Passmark PT 9.0 (Only) this would be of help to the OP.

I think you are missing what this Thread is about. It is the Performance Difference between using 2 Rams Sticks -v- 4 Ram Sticks. It is not how fast your Memory is so if you can remove 2 Memory Sticks and use only 2 in Slots 2-4 and rerun Passmark PT 9.0 (Only) this would be of help to the OP.

OK after the testing I had the wrong Memory Stick on the Dark B so after changing back to the original before the testing. Having the wrong one caused me a Post Bios Code of 97 when I enabled XPM Profile 1 and the from a Cold Boot. Cold Boot is from the PSU Power Switch Off and Monitor Switch Off. Even though the benchmark was higher it was not Stable. Below was with the incorrect Memory Stick.

Through the XMP Profile or by manually settings them. At lest now I know what Post Code 97 can be caused by Any good Software tool to show what the real Speed and CAS is? I am hoping that the OP Posts back today.

Thanks, those are interesting results. The performance is clearly different on 2 v 4 however I’m still unsure of what is causing such a bad performance of my sticks (way lower results than yours), I will try different timings and CAS and post back but looks like my problem is a compatibility issue of these particular sticks with the dark.

Odd but switch the Sticks that is take the one on Slot 2 and put it on Slot 4 and the one from Slot 4 into Slot 2. Before you switch them set the Memory back to Auto in the Bios.

From Page 34 Support Manual for EVGA X299 Dark (151-SX-E299)1 2 CPU 3 4 I now have one Dark set this way 2 - 4 Re-Ran to see if any Difference Slot 2 -4 Slot 1 - 4
