Hello, my names Craig and I recently bought a gtx evga 1080sc to replace my evga gtx 980sc I purchased the card via gumtree (minefield I know), and I wish I hadn't in hindsight but I believed every thing was checking out he had quite a bit of feedback regarding gpu sales serial number was on the card and even provided me with original bill of sale from scan (hoping its real) and as it was an evga card I did not worry to much as I have never had any problems in the past, however after meeting up and receiving the card (meet in public place) and geting home, the card will not power up at all no light, no fans etc and when I have tried to contact the seller he is not responding, big surprise! What can I do? I am totaly devastated this will be my only chance to upgrade for a long time as I am a student nurse and struggle as it is, I belive the warrteny still has one year left to run but God knows if its even real, or if it will be honoured as it could have been tampted with any advise is welcome I am going to ring evga up on Monday when they are open to get some advise as well.

Ps sorry for the poor grammer/spelling I am dislexic.

Ps I will be geting in touch with the police to inform of the fraud I also have found him on facebook and know what uni he goes too.

Thanks for any advise in advance i won't be able to check till after my shift has finished

Regards Craig

Contact EVGA tech support (if in the USA) to see if the video card is still under warranty and the RMA procedures if you qualify.

Re: Please help I have been victim of a scam 2019/03/16 08:23:28 (permalink)
In my country when people buy something second hand no matter if hardware is still in warranty in store we used to ask and give 7 days period to customer check.
I always do that and because of that give me positive comments on marketplace as buyer and seller. I even send message after few months sometimes to ask is it my hardware still working.

If customers call after 2-3-4-5 or 7 days and say hardware die he can't send just like that.
That never happen to me and no one complain that hardware OC less than I described but if happen to someone...
Buyer need to bring back hardware and together to inspect on physical damage and check again. Off course I always have 10-20 pictures of hardware I offer as insurance against people who buy overclock as maniac and burn something.
If hardware work completely in my PC than have no rights to return, he could sit whole day in my apartment and check itself.

That's worse kind of people who scam others on second hand hardware because 90% there are buyers who can't afford full price.
I'm allergic on such things and immediately blood pressure jump when I hear that someone is scammed on that way. Usually original buyers are refused for RMA for some reason and than pull money on half working or not working hardware for some poor guy.

Thanks cool, I have built a few pics over the years but I am by no means an expert I will be taking the card to a local pc shop to see if they can quickly just test it, but the fact the seller is not responding speaks volumes also my gtx980 works just fine in the same pcie express Lane using the same psu and cables, would love it to be the case though so fingers crossed.

Thanks man you seem to have a very good way of doing things wish that was more common place! Wish I could afford to buy new but just dont have the funds and won't for the next 3 years that's why I wanted something I was hoping would last me a good amount of time.

Same as me, I waited new NVIDIA RTX2000 Series to show up and when I saw prices I was shocked.
I bought used GTX1080Ti for same money as new RTX2060. That's tragic and performance are 2 level above RTX2060.
Simply I couldn't follow any more high end GPU and they start to sell use mid range for premium prices. Only option was used overclocked GTX1080Ti in warranty.

Yes, if he not respond there is a very small chances that he is busy. How long now answer.
Usually I'm constant online available to buyers or seller even over phone. When I sell something I never spend money in first 7 days just in case if buyer have some problems.

I really hope warranty period is not out and you will get working GTX1080. Probably will not be new but if they decide to replace you EVGA will test GPU.
How much you paid GTX1080. In my country they are very rear, because price of GTX1080Ti dropped and owners of GTX1080 can't get enough money for performance of GTX1080. GTX1080 overclocked is similar to RTX2070 and almost half cheaper second hand GTX1080.

From my perspective GTX1080 is best mobile GPU still.
And people who search for gaming laptops should look for GTX1080 GPU.
Kepler-Pascal-Fermi that's 3 best NVIDIA architectures if you ask me.
Full GK110 Kepler was best because all cuda cores and nice performance improvement, and than Pascal.
Maxwell and Turing... Nooo. Turing is worse.

    What MB ?
Sometimes you Need to clear the CMOS first for New generation cards, happened on a X58 of mine.  Use a cell phone or Other camera & record your BIOS settings First

    Register the Card

You need the serial number & upload copy of sales receipt

then Contact Customer Service to check possible Warranty time remaining

Sorry to hear about your mishap. Please reach out to us at supportEU@evga.com with the serial number of the graphics card so that we can look into whatever options you may have. Alternatively you can try reaching back out to the seller.

Just a quick update for anyone that has been following this, Jeff very kindly reached out to me to try and help and we have found out that the card had been in for a warrenty replacement over 2 years ago and is no longer in warrenty :( so no longer covered he has been in contact with evga EU on my behalf to see if there is anything that they might be able to do so fingers crossed but it is a big ask and I am aware of that, I would just like to say however if any of the higher ups at evga see this post your customer support reps do an amazing job and deserve the praise so well done and thanks Jeff.

I will keep you guys posted on the outcome whatever that might be but if not I guess I will have to take this on the chin and just accept my mistake in trusting people at face value.

    Hello,

as the warranty period always starts by the original product, unfortunately your RMA product is out of warranty for more than 1,5 years and we not able to offer an RMA anymore and get it replaced - for future purchases, please contact us in advance, as we are able to check the warranty period within the serial number through our system,

    Have a good day,
