If there are instability issues with the lower-tier models such as the BLACK, XC3, will those models’ firmware downclocks affect the ftw3 ultra firmware?

Do the models have different firmware?

Thank you!!!

Not necessary with EVGA cards. Some of the other Zotac or Gigabyte cards might need to underclock, though.

What do we think is causing the xc3 crashing and stuttering issues people are reporting here then, bad drivers? Thanks.

They just made a statement about replacing some of the SP caps with MLCC's

For the FTW though, correct? They stated the XC3 should be fine and is fine - yet people are reporting crashes and stuttering... unless I am misunderstanding you, can you direct me to the statement about replacing XC3s? Was wondering why that is on the XC3s if they are supposed to be fine with 1. Thank you.

You shouldn't forget that all cards function within specs. What causes issues is NVIDIA GPU Boost increase HIGHER than written specs of manufacturers. So if there was a firmware update limiting this boost, it wouldn't technically be a downclocking since you still would be higher than clocks advertised. Not sure if that's what Jacob meant, but that's the way I understood it anyway, since GPU Boost is already " overclocking " above advertised specs and any firmware would just limit that overclocking clocks to a certain degree.

Have you gotten your card yet? Mine gets here Monday. If so does your card have the ceramic caps on the back? I noticed they didn't mention the 3090s when talking about the issue.

Looks like I asked prematurely. I loaded the 3090 page in incognito so that it wasn't using the cached image and it's got the 4+20 configuration. When I reload the site outside of incognito it's still showing me the 6 sp caps.

3080 FTW3 is 1755Mhz boosted (from EVGA Boost). Anything higher is an overclock, anything under 1755Mhz is an underclock. NVIDIA Boost just climbs the clock to wherever it deems appropriate regarding various factors (temp, power headroom, etc) so limiting the boost wouldn't be a downclocking as you don't lower the value of the product specified clock, you just limit the maximum OC potential. Not everyone will enjoy the same boost clocks from Nvidia GPU boost, some with limited temps wouldn't go higher than 1800 (for example). That's why it wouldn't be downclocking as the boost depends on EACH and everyone system and isn't the same for everyone. Not to mention how good your gpu chip is also might determine how good / bad of overclocking headroom you have.
At least, that's how I understand the underclocking / downclocking / overclocking terms regarding the fact that Nvidia GPU Boost is already an overclock.

I just noticed the FTW3 pictures use 220uF SP-Caps, seems like others are using 470uF.  I wonder if lower capacitance could cause any issues?

Hopefully the XC3s will be fine with the current 5/1 implementation.
