Grinding Gear Games has announced that Path of Exile now features a Vulkan-based renderer, an alternative rendering pipeline which promises "more consistent performance" than the game's existing DirectX 11 version. These performance changes are due to the elimination of DirectX 11 driver stalls, delivering a significant increase to minimum framerates, making the game feel a lot more stable on supported hardware.

Vulkan gives Path of Exile's developers more control over how their game functions, allowing them to control the otherwise uncontrollable aspects of DirectX 11. That said, Path of Exile's Vulkan Renderer remains slower than the game's DirectX 11 implementation in several circumstances, especially when framerates are GPU limited. Regardless, Path of Exile's increased minimum framerates will have a much larger impact on gameplay. Over time, Path of Exile's Vulkan Renderer will be optimised further. The game's new Vulkan Renderer will act as a new framework for future game optimisations, and this is something that Path of Exile's developers have only started to scratch the surface of. In the coming weeks, patch 3.11 for Path of Exile is due to boost the game's Vulkan performance further.

Right now, Path of Exile's Vulkan Renderer is in beta, and users of it are expected to report bugs to Grinding Gear Games whenever they find them. Path of Exile's bug report page is available here, and further details about the game's Vulkan Renderer are available here

Personally I think Vulkan is going to be much better than DX11.
