EVGA 1080Ti SC2 SLI
EVGA HB SLI hard-bridge
Maximus IX Hero
7700k Stock, Water-cooled
Windows 10 Pro, All updates installed as of this writing.
385.14 WHQL, as well as the previous 3 versions
Asus PG278QR Gsync monitor, 2560 x 1440 @ 165hz
2 side monitors, Dell - 1920 x 1200 @ 60hz

I need to underclock these cards (by 200!) to be able to play Witcher 3.

As of 6.1.12, moving the GPU Clock to any positive value (+5 to +50) works fine. If I move the GPU clock to ANY negative value, like -5, and hit APPLY, the screen instantly flashes to brown or white and the system must be hard-reset.

Please see the provided screenshot for reference that I've never overclocked or modified these cards. They are completely stock except for the fan curve and the underclock which is needed to run Witcher 3.

Cards work absolutely fine in anything else. Both afterburner, Nvidia inspector, and PXOC 6.1.11 and below are able to accomplish this task.

Seems something got seriously messed up on the latest 2 releases.

I would stay away from EVGA's gpu software overclocking. Its nothing but buggy hot garbage. They are not capable of creating a proper and bug free app.

Try to reduce the power target.

You could do this if you need to underclock without using afterburner, precision or nvidia inspector.

    It doesn't work with a FTW3, but maybe with a SC2?

Yeah it doesn't. Would like to know if it will work with a SC2.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I need PXOC running for the fans as the stock function is absolute garbage (Afterburner can only control 1 fan). Wouldn't PXOC override this?

Doesn't really matter, I'll just remain on on 6.1.11 until they fix it, and possibly RMA these cards, I really shouldn't have to modify any kind of voltage to play a game that had been out a year when these cards were released. Hopefully they take care of this before losing a customer for life. Never had these issues with MSI or Gigabyte.

If you set the frequency using my guide you won't be able to push the card above that frequency using xoc.

    Now what?

Seems like a potential solution. Is there a way to cap the max clock rather than force it? Pretty sure what's killing these during Witcher is that bit that goes over the max boost clock when under load.

Looks like it doesn't work with the SC2. Only other options you have would be the run the card in debug mode, underclock with afterburner, or both.

Precision might be doing some permanent damage to our cards but I hope it is not.

Why? Underclocking is just a bandaid for a more serious problem.
