Hi, I have a EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 G3. The fan has started to randomly ramp up to full speed when doing literally nothing on my PC. Even gaming doesn't "trigger" the fan. Its very bizarre.

CPU/GPU is WC and both stay in the 40 degree C range. Turned case fans off. I know for sure its the PSU fan.

Only thing I changed recently is a longer display port cable, put in a USB WiFi adapter in the MOBO I/O and changed the power outlet due to moving my desk to another location in my room.

Any help would be appreciated. When the psu fan ramps up, its the loudest part of my build !

Does this only occur when eco mode is on, or does it happen when it's off too?

Omgaaaawsh, it was in ECO mode I didn't notice that, it must of got pushed with all the moving.

So, now I have turned it OFF, and I can hear the fan at a consistent RPM. Always wondered if that noise was the PSU fan, because my case fans are set at 500ish RPM'S.

It's always something simple overlooked ;p So 99% sure that's what it was. Thanks !

Is there any way to control the PSU fan or at least monitor the RPM in hwifo64 ? I didn't see it when I looked.

The fan should not be going full speed, randomly or otherwise, under no load/low load (or temperature) conditions whether ECO Mode is on or off.

Here is the Fan Curve/Noise chart for a 1000W G3 with ECO Mode on.

ECO Mode has been known to sometimes cause wonky fan operation..If you're OK with it running in normal mode and it seems to be fine, that's cool, otherwise you should Contact EVGA Customer Service about it because an RMA is probably needed due to an ECO Mode issue.

    Hi.
Thanks for the information. I would prefer eco mode now that I know the difference in noise. I might just live with the normal operation for now.....priorities. :)
