Just a heads up for anyone that may have gotten one of these from the B stock drop last week and are having issues. I received the card on Friday and promptly stuck it in the loop to test. Immediately, the Nvidia driver crashed on anything GPU intensive (Time Spy, Port Royal, FurMark) and even Doom Eternal which can "run on a toaster". Outside of any GPU loads or gaming, the card seemed to work fine. Windows worked without any artifacting or crashing. I disabled G-Sync just to make sure that was not the issue, and it had no affect on the results.

Needless to say I was pretty bummed. Thank god EVGA's RMA is pretty good. So I opened a case on Friday evening (obviously a response is not going to come until the following Monday or Tuesday).

Well, as usual, curiosity got the best of me, and thank god it did. I run Argus Monitor on my systems which gives GPU Memory Junction temp reading on the 2080 Super, and my memory junction temps were immediately spiking to 105C. So, on Saturday removed the waterblock from the card and found NO TIM (putty, thermal pads, anything) on the VRAM modules. I have quite a few extra of the EK blue thermal pads and did some measurements of the various heights on the GPU die, VRAM modules, and water block contact points. 1mm pads seemed the best fit. I cut to size, fitted and reassembled the card.

Card now works flawlessly, even with G-Sync enabled. Temps on Memory Junction do not go over 52-53C and GPU die temps hover around 44-45C.

So, if you got one of these cards from the drop, and are having issues, this is something to potentially look at.

On a different issue, how this was not caught through QC is really baffling. Perhaps that is why it was a B-Stock.

good to see you were able to fix it

Sad, that the card somehow slipped through the cracks & was shipped

No thermal pads on any of the RAM?    or just some pads on some of the ram ?

Nothing. Just bare memory chips. I've been hammering it all day with Time Spy loops now and not a single crash.

I just got Two RTX 2080 Hydro Copper Super’s to replace my SLI and they pretty much the same way and one card the I/O plate was so tweaked I had to replace it. Using Precision X1latest version, I can not get it to scan the cards. I have to go back to 1.0.06 and scan works. One card is 20mghz slower than the other and they are running in the 60c range under load just in boost no overclock. The cards the replaced were 2080 ultras XC’s air cooled that I put Hydro copper blocks on. I put the pads from my blocks on the replacement cards as there wasn’t any on them when I received them. One card wouldn’t even give video until I pulled the block. I have taken my loop apart three times and now maybe a fourth.
My question is, does the 2080 super hydro coppers run hot or do I need to look at another RMA?

Mine does not run hot (it did when I first got it). Though I am only running one card. After putting 1mm thermal pads on the VRAM and replacing the TIM on the GPU die, I am seeing 50C max on the GPU and around 60C on the VRAM with the Hydro Copper block. The VRM modules are running around 42C. However, I still replaced the Hydro Copper block with an EK Vector block and I am seeing about 2-4C less in all areas.

What are you using to monitor the temp? I use Argus Monitor. HWInfo does not show the memory junction temps for the 2080 Super. PX1 should also show the VRAM, VRM, and GPU temps in ICX.

Cool thanks also my back plate just feel off on both cards when I took them apart. That was the very first time that ever happened. EVGA uses thermal pads on the backplate and a glue as well. Thanks for the link!

That's not right. Mine had a bunch of thermal pads on the backplate that made it quite difficult to get the backplate off.

Your card is an FTW, mine is not. This why you can see all the temps in Precision. I called in and asked about my temps and was told that the 2080 Super runs a lot hotter than 2080. A LOT HOTTER. I took the blocks off both cards replaced the TIM on both GPU’s and used a different TIM pad material with a dab of Artic Silver Ceramiqe under each location where the memory modules were on the block itself not to touch the memory but to hold the pad in place and give good contact. This brought the GPU Temps down and they stay down but the memory temps go up but no where near what they were but that junction temp is still getting in the 80’s.
Since these cards are the basic cards and not FTW or Ultra’s OC I think this is to be expected out of low end cards. Just to think my original cards were 1080 Black TI replaced with 2080 Ultra’s OC. My 1080’s died in a year and a half. The Ultra’s two and half.

Do the EK Block work a lot better?

I wouldn't say the EK block works a lot better. But certainly an improvement.

EK say they don’t have a block for my card but I know there can’t be much of a difference as the Hydro Copper block is the same one they use on all the 2080 Super’s 400-HC-1289-B1. I want to look at the EK blocks but there are two PCB’s and I need one that will work with 08G-P4-3189-KR. Any Ideas? Thanks!

Just looked up the HC 1289 block and it is completely different than mine. Mine looks just like the one I bought for the 2080 Ultra’s and this is why I only see the GPU temp. It is a junk card.
