Project: MilkyWay@home
Date: Nov. 13th - 17th (or whatever works for you this week)
 
GPU tasks are king with this project.
Running multiple tasks will yield better points: 2 tasks per GPU, up to 4 tasks per GPU (1080ti)
 
Let's help model the MilkyWay galaxy this week!
 
Keep in mind that the PrimeGrid event starts right at the end of this POTM and also uses GPUs.
Plan your hardware/tasks accordingly.

    Same as for the 1080 for the most part, 2 per if the GPU gets to hot.
    3 Tasks Per GPU using .2 CPU

    Do the Tesla's not have DP (Double Precision)? If so make sure you enable it.

    they do, there are some settings i've been told i'll need to make but they have about 1.6tflops of DP each.  But firest order of business is to get the waterblocks i just received installed, because they're passively cooled ones, and i dont have a fan setup to cool them approxpriately so had to fetch some water blocks.  Hopefully the titanx block works since the k40's were on the same chip set. Visually it looks like it'll be a match.  Just got them today so haven't pulled them out to see if they fit yet.

    That is fine, mine runs at 100% as well with 3 and the TPD is only about 68%.
    You should be fine with 3 Tasks running on your Card....
    Also you do not want to give that much CPU Power I would think the max you should go would be 0.3
    My Titans both run 99% and the TPD 98% Each.

    What I try to do is see if running more tasks increases or decreases the time per task.
    If I can do one task in 2 minutes, I want to do two tasks in under 4 minutes, three tasks in under 6 minutes, four under 8 and so on.
    That works well when the tasks are mostly the same size and all. Some projects same type of tasks and vary widely in size.
    I would not run two at a time if it now takes 4.5 minutes rather than 2 minutes each even if my GPU was at 50%
    Why run more tasks at one time if it takes longer and loads the GPU to 100% costing more to run it...
    I start with one task at a time while timing how long it runs, I like to run several just to see if there is much of a difference in times.

    Thats pretty much what I started doing when we people started posting up times for tasks during some of the projects.  Made me re-evaluate all the GPU tasks i have and make app-configs for the ones i need to optimize.

    Most of my Mikyway work units are creating computation errors. I even turn off my OC and I'm still getting errors.  This also happens with GPUGRID.  I can't figure out why. Here is a copy of my BOINc manager event log.

    Most of my Mikyway work units are creating computation errors. I even turn off my OC and I'm still getting errors.  This also happens with GPUGRID.  I can't figure out why. Here is a copy of my BOINc manager event log.

    It almost looks like BOINC is mixing up your nvidia and integrated GPUs. I’d maybe try creating a cc_config.xml file and in the options section add the following switch: <ignore_intel_dev>0</ignore_intel_dev>. Save it, then restart BOINC for it to take effect.

    Anybody getting odd mixes of CPU tasks? I get lots of single core units and a few 9 core units mixxed in. Since I have boinc limited to 9 cores, it would seem like 9 core units wouldn't get to run very often that way.

    I might have an answer.   In the nvidia control panel, I had the Optimize for Compute Performance set to On.  I turn that setting to off and now it looks like Mikyway is now working.  
     
    Per Nvidia----Optimize for Compute Performance
    This setting is intended to provide additional performance to non-gaming applications that use large CUDA address spaces and large amounts of GPU memory when run on graphics cards based on second-generation Maxwell GPUs. Graphics cards based on other architectures do not utilize this setting.

    I disabled the n-body simulation tasks. I've had to abort 3 so far. They usually complete very fast, but some get stuck. I found 1 with 10 hours runtime at just about half complete. My CPU was only a few percent. Even fresh ones don't fully use all CPU resources. 1 kept pinging between 50% to 75% (75% max allowed).

    I only run GPU Tasks, on the other do you have the latest C++ Runtimes and also did you install the Graphics Driver or did Windows 10 if on Windows 10? 
     
    Not seeing this setting on Driver 373.06, 378.92 or 388.00 (Driver 388.13 is also known to have a lot of issues) go back to 388.00
    On this "I had the Optimize for Compute Performance set to On" Never seen any issues with this!
     
    I have found it best not to run the Same BOINC Project on the CPU and GPU at the same time on the Same Computer.

    We really only have 1 day and now less than 9 hours for those of us moving over to PG.
    But after looking it would talk about a week to get the numbers  to see that amount.
    It is not based on the Project Site Team Link but on FB Here I just noticed this.

    8 seems a good starting point.  ITs the same GK110 as the titan black, but rated at 1.4Tflop DP, we'll see what real performance is once i plug em in and run some tasks.
