Hello everyone! This will serve as the official thread for March's Atlas @ home. Date: Mar 27 -31, 2017 There are a few things you'll need to have before you can potentially successfully run this project. 1. Install Virtualbox version 5.1.x (version 4 no longer supported) - it can be downloaded here. Personally I had issue with the joint boinc+vb installation so I had to download boinc from berkeley and then VB directly from ocacle. There are other projects aside from that use virtual box, so this may be something you'll want to have anyways. 2. Join our crunching team ( crunching @ evga) on atlas. 2. Checklist for Atlas - A checklist created by Yeti to help ensure you can run the project successfully. 3. Run 1 work unit (as per checklist above) to ensure it works. It will either work of fail within 20 minutes (usually). If it fails after doing the above and you do not want to mess with app_config just let me know. We will switch to the backup project. My goal is for everyone to be able to join in and not be limited by their system (which atlas is a resource hog like no other). So if anyone can't get it to work and/or does not want to mess with the app_config just write a message here and we will switch. I will update this post if that happens.

If I recall and now am testing they have set the Program to use only 8 Cores or Threads. You should have HT Enabled or On for this Project and at least 16GB of Memory, but you can get by with 10GB. On one Rig I have 4 Tasks downloaded taking about 2.15GB of disk space. VM will use 8 Processors and 8900MB of Memory. Takes about 45-55 minutes to complete one task (Intel) 40+ Hours on AMD CPU.

There's a minor issue with Atlas and defaults with boinc. Each Atlas project can use more than half the 10GB default disk space limit in boinc client. I found this out by looking at the disk stats and Atlas had 5.9GB and this caused new and current tasks to stall.

I really recommend the "second #2" . Checklist by Yeti to make sure everything is setup right.

wizanhi, I was wondering if you could suggest a secondary or backup project for those dates? GPU or CPU is all good for me.

I take it you're not able to successfully run it or it eats up more resources than you have? If so, we can switch to the backup, [link=mailto:einstein@home]einstein@home[/link]. I want everyone to be able to participate because there's no need to run projects that exclude some people, there's more than enough projects around.

I may still get it set up but only on 1 rig.(i-7). I just want to make sure I'm involved in some capacity for that week. Thanks for the info.

I upped my RAM to 32GB for this. I still find it odd that boinc goes crazy and downloads a 2 cpu work unit only to have to pause the single core work unit it was already running. That's just strange. Luckily boinc units don't have qrb or my numbers would stink.

if you are running the multicore units or are close to using all available RAM, BOINC will switch between projects or even wait to download new tasks. ATLAS does not play well with running other CPU projects at the same time (but it is possible). Also, choose either MC tasks or single core tasks for ATLAS, don't try to run both. It has to do with "switch between tasks every __" and what your queue is set to: "store at least __ days of work" and "store up to an additional __days of work". For example, I was trying to run one multicore task and other projects to take up the remaining cores. If my cache was set too high, it would download two MC tasks and stop getting work for the other projects, even when cores were available.

I don't know lol. I have not restricted it or set it manually and it's using 25% in task man. It's 4 core 8 thread machine.

From their message boards: On March 17th"The current batch of WU have all been submitted and unfortunately we will not have any more until next week. So this weekend you can crunch other projects or give your computers a break :)" Edit: Sorry this is what Opolis posted!

Is Einstein that backup for this months POTM? Harder if GPU but I guess I can test out and see how well the GTX 1080Ti run them.

Yes see post 8. Congrats on 1080ti. Last week I couldn't get work from Einstein but today no problem. So far on 970's about 18 minutes per task. I'm gonna switch the 980ti over soon and then the 1070 in a couple hours.

For Einstein, it's about 12 minutes per task on a 1070. Link to results if interested.

That work unit is still running. Process Explorer claims it's still using a full cpu core and using 180mb of private RAM.
