Now have four 8 CPU jobs running.  27.6GB of allocated memory, but only about 50% CPU usage.  Not sure if that's hyperthreading playing a usage game or some other inefficiency.  Is this typical?

System is a dual proc e5-2670 (2x8 cores) running with hyperthreading on.

I remember years ago the Folding SMP WUs did not load the CPU up to 100%
So we ran 2 instances of folding on the same computer.
It maybe just the Tasks can not load up the CPUs 100%

my main rig only seems to want to do 2 task for whatever reason =(.  have it set for 3 concurrent 4 core with 18gb of memory available, but the 3rd task seems to always be waiting for memory...have 32gb so its not like its a problem.  then again the app-config too me forever to get working...despite the fact that I never really changed anything before it finally worked either >.>.

That is the exact problem I had.  Make sure to check Your Account (takes you to [link=mailto:LHC@home]LHC@home[/link] account web page) then Computing Preferences, then scroll down and make sure that the Memory section isn't set to 50% memory (which is the default).  I had to increase these to 95% before it would use more than 16GB of RAM.

I see all these memory complaints. Do you guys have virtualbox installed? I'm running an 8-core thread and it's only using 80 MB of memory (VBoxHeadless).

Just got that "waiting for memory issues" myself on a second PC. Went into the computer preferences in the BOINC app (options, computing preferences) and upped the allowed usage. Now it's working no problem, it was set to 50% or something low by default. Also had to update to latest version of BOINC to get it to even download atlas apps from LHC@home.

i've made sure i'm using 95% memory on both lhc web and boinc manager...app config file has 26gb of allocated memory but still see 1 task waiting on memory when it should be running.  Will let a few more tasks finish to see if it picks up the new settings and all...till then have a 2 task running on each pc for the moment.

Well just checked my box again and I have 28 valid units and 129(ish) failed units. Clearly not a good use of resources.  Read on the Atlas site that this can be caused by overloaded network infrastructure on the CERN side, but have no idea if that is the case here.  I'm going to switch my box back to 50% Atlas and 50% Community Grid.  Will check again in the morning...

I guess my sweet spot is 4 cpu's on my 8 thread, 16GB machine with 10 straight completed and validated. Mem usage is 6.5 Gb steady. 8 cpu units were constantly starved for memory. I'm going try 6 cpu setting after current wu finishes.

Thanks Yodap!  My setup is similar, except only 8GB RAM.

I also ended up at 4 cpus based on 2.5GB + 0.8GB per CPU.  So 2.5 + (4 * 0.8) = 5.7GB for Atlas, with the rest reserved for OS and other crunching/folding.

noticed that myself, 24 valid/5 invalid in the last 24h from 2 different computers.  Definately a lot more error than there use to be, probably due to the migration to new servers and such.  Hope it gets ironed out as it progresses.

I've only had 2 validate errors so far, otherwise running well on my 3930k.  Mainly sticking with Einstein.

100% validate errors over the last day, so I must move on. Apologies.
Still running Einstien.

yikes 100% >.>.  Haven't had a valid error since wednesday.  Completing tasks slowly.  I personally haven't brought all my systems to running atlas yet since they just migrated over.

Yeah I was annoyed when I saw that, now that I've calmed down I may try and trouble shoot.

I started, but got errors.
Shut everything down so I can finish my workshop rebuild.

Will be ready in a week to be back at 100% full power.
See you all for the next POTM and challenges.

I've been running for a few days with no validation errors.  I think the key was running no other projects (even running a single Primegrid task only on my GPU foobar'd Atlas.  Also, running all 4 CPU units.  Someone IM'ed me saying that 2CPU tasks are broken because it computes the requirement memory wrong, so they always fail.

Anyway, it's been a fun run.  Was curious what it would be like using 40GB of RAM for crunching tasks.  Now I know.

Not sure what I'll switch to next.

Yeah someone IM'ed me too with advice.
I was running 10 cpu, he suggested 6.  I did get better efficiency that way.
Switched to 4 cpu (2 tasks at once) and got even better efficiency plus points are back up around 10 cpu tasks amounts.
I've only had about 2 validate errors all week.

Sad it took me until the end to dial in the settings (and only on one of my PC's lol).

thanks for sticking it out with me all week everyone ^_^.  The migration didn't help efficiency any as its been trial and error for everyone.  My system was stable with 4cpu tasks so I ran 2-tasks on each of my two computers all week.

It was still fun.  More "hands on" experience.  And my GPUs really crunched through some Einstein tasks as the back up project.

POTM sticky thread has been updated.
olddanit you can start a new POTM thread for Aprils POTM.
Also May on out is open, so sign up your pet project for POTM in the stickied thread.
Pick a project and get it on the list. Can even pick the sprint project, what ever it will be, if you like.
