This just popped up in boinc notices.

ATLAS@home: ATLAS/LHC consolidation is ready
Hi all,

After several months of extensive testing, we are now ready to complete the move to LHC@Home! The ATLAS app is now out of beta so we encourage you to start crunching ATLAS tasks on LHC. We do not plan to submit any more tasks to ATLAS@Home.

As stated earlier, credit will not be lost! We will move all the credit accumulated here to LHC@Home once all the remaining tasks are finished. To make this easier it would be very helpful if your email address you register with is the same on both projects, since this is the only way to match the accounts on each project.

In the LHC project preferences you can select which apps to run, so if you want to only run ATLAS then check the ATLAS box only.

There is an updated version of Yeti's checklist available, so please check this if you experience problems. There is also a dedicated message board for ATLAS.

Thank you for your crunching on ATLAS@Home over the years and we look forward to continued crunching on LHC!

This makes what 4 BOINC Projects are now under LHC@Home! I will give it a try. (I got 2 Tasks, still have 1 Task running from the Old Site)
Some of the other Projects they did not combined the scores.
PS.. Thanks for the update and also not as an image.

You're welcome.
I just failed 12 tasks so I'm giving up for now.

OK I've got my main rig (i7 3930K) running ATLAS via LHC@home now.
It seems to be working.
Nice that you can set #of CPU cores and #tasks through project prefs now instead of making an app_config.

I updated virtualbox to 5.1.16 per Yeti "new checklist" (and extension pack for 5.1.16).

I initially set and downloaded a 10 core task, but then noticed that Yeti states ATLAS can do 1 - 8 cores/WU.
We will see if it completes...

I also set the BOINC Client to Match the Number of Threads(CPUs) I set on the Program or Application under Preferences for this project.

I was also reading that 2 x 4 core tasks is better than 1 x 8 core task.
I have *just* enough RAM so I will try that next.

This rig is my only one with 16GB ram. 2600k @ 4.0 on a z77 mobo. Also 2 gtx 970's but was not folding or crunching them at the time. Win 7 64.
I lowered my prefs as much as I could and now have 2 single core tasks running ok. but before that I ran too low on ram, initially on a 8 core and then 4 core tasks. I'm running vbox 5.14 and could update that. Somehow I need to lasso the ram usage, because I should be able to do more than single core work.

On MC tasks, ram usage is about 0.8 GB*(# of cores) + 2.5 GB.
From what I am reading, multiple 4 core tasks perform a little better but use more RAM and can cause problems if you are close the the limit on available memory.
Running a single 8 core task will use less ram and cause less problems.
I can't verify the performance claims yet.

In light of the move to LHC and some people having issues, should we consider moving to Einstein? Its more stable and offers both CPU and GPU computing.  I just saw the message for the move pop on my boinc manager myself since i've been away from the threads all week...stupid midterms ><.

My 2 single cores are still running ok but will take 16 hours total. The total ram usage is almost 7GB so I'm just going to keep looking for a sweet spot for this project and rig.

I plan on running Einstein during those days as well.

You should try and run on at least 8 Threads anything below us not going to run well.
Also I changed the BOINC Client to use 90% memory and 95% memory.

While I typed the last post 1 unit finished. It went from about 25% to 100%. I don't think it error-ed. The 2nd just finished also. I can start fooling around with it after supper again. Time to go cook.

hahah.  Well atlas is my pet project so I would love to keep running it =D.  Looks like yodap got single cores to work.  What's your app config look like for multicore ? My old app-config seems to not register the name atlas_mcore so not sure what they changed it to.

Update running ATLAS under LHC@home:
No app_config or special boinc settings.  Only using project preferences for # cpu cores and # tasks allowed.

i7 3930k @ 4.4 GHz, 16gb RAM, virtualbox 5.1.16, Win10:
Ran one task on 10 cores (somehow it let me, even though the guide says max is 8 cores) - 1.49 hrs for 528 points
Had some RAM to spare

Ran two tasks, 4 cores each - 2.17 hrs avg for 304 and 311 points
System was sluggish as almost all RAM was being used.

So, I'm seeing more points/hr with the higher core count tasks and my PC is not sluggish since less RAM is used.

I will stick with ATLAS and run Einstein on GPU.

Hey Guy's, I have been a bit busy over the last week, catching up after my 2 week holiday in Australia.

Hoping I can get up and running for the start on the 27th.
Have to run some power as I have maxed out everything to the point of tripping circuit breakers.

got everything working.  Im finding happy medium run 2-3 4-core tasks.  Timing seems to vary depending on how many gflops of data my wu has.

10 WU's completed and validated today.  So far only running my 6850k.

Thanks wizanhi,
I was doing that before they allowed you to set how many CPU Cores/Thread so I have one set to 8 and one to 10.
This way on my Rigs only one Tasks run while the GPU is off doing it's thing.
On my 4P I use 10 and it runs 4 Projects at the same time, but they take more than 24 Hours to complete so no more on my 4P.
Also Sixtrack preferences is good but it fails on some computers to edit so far Windows 10 and IE is working well.
I do wish they more preferences then 4, 6 or 8 would be great. Like how many you can setup on PrimeGrid.

i like that LHC lets you set the core/thread count you want to use.  The number of task still seems to maybe not work properly? not sure how it is suppose to function.  I was able to get more than 1 task going at the same time with their server settings regardless of how many cores I allotted to it.  It always ended up with 1 task using the max core I've allowed.

Currently just doing folding.   I'm tempted to step up to the 1080ti from my 1070 ftw for folding....still have 2 months left to decide lol.  Holding off for the ftw series for my gaming rig.  Should be a decent jump from 980ti's, especially since they're glitchy from water damage =(.

Re: POTM - March 2017 - Atlas@home - Mar 27-31 2017/03/25 14:10:36 (permalink)
Kind of odd to setup.  Atlas first gave me a single 32 CPU task (2 x 8 core box with hyperthreading).  This made me nervous.  So I dialed it back to 16 cpus, and then 8cpus but bumped the number of units to 2.  So now I'm running 1 16cpu unit and 1 8cpu unit.  Both show they will take about 2.5 hours total to complete.

What's odd as between the two of them, I only have 50% utilization.  I would expect 75%.  RAM usage is 15.7GB (which is fine it's a 32GB box).

I do have 16 World Community tasks going also, which push the CPU up to about 100%.  Need to get those finished or aborted.

Going on 3 days of run time and 1 day at 100% I aborted 4 Atlas Tasks on my 4P rig.
I Guess AMD Server CPU's are not well rounded for Atlas.

Just got a boinc notice: Atlas Simulations needs 1518MB more disk space.  4203 available and it needs 5722.  Odd because each VM has a 20GB virtual disk  with only 1.5GB of allocated.  Plus down to one 8CPU job running but the system is basically idle... Hmmm...

Okay, for me setting the project compute preferences was key.  This box is a dedicated cruncher, so I changed the memory settings to 95% and bumped up the disk setting to 100GB and use no more than 90% total.

I now have three 8 cpu jobs running taking up 22.8 GB of memory and utilizing 75% of cpu.  Bumping the number of concurrent tasks to 4, to see if I can get closer to 100% cpu utilization.

Will let you know if that works.
