As we start getting them in lets post our PPD and machine builds. I would like to see your machine builds to lets us know if CPU/Chipset is bottlenecking performance in Folding on the 1080TI

bcavnaugh Could have used your other Thread for this. Anyone Jumping on 1080TI for Folding? Time to move over to our team, you are very active with Folding and the Team needs Active Form Members.
I like my little underdog team though. Only 4 of us and we are in the 30's of overall team ranks. Some day I may move to eVGA's team but right now I am still chugging for the little team. Plus I wanted to add on this thread seeing the machine specs.

I too would like to see some performance numbers as well as bus usage, power draw, and other nice stats while folding.

That's sick. I remember thinking my 780 was about as good as it could get with 130,000 ppd.

is there any consensus on what is the minimum cpu for running a 1080ti? will any i7 be enough? hoping so. eyeing it as the next/final upgrade.

I think for Folding on the GPU Only any CPU from the last 6 or 7 years should be fine.

Yes, I think you will be fine, except any multi-core CPU intensive game that brings the newer & bigger CPUs to their knees - just OC that 4790 with good cooling it is still a great CPU. Rig2 in signature - 2way SLI EVGA TitanX SC with a 4790 no issues on a Z97 MB Just make sure you do not try to run more than 1, 1080 or 1080 Ti on an old PCIe 2.0 x16, MB like most X58

at 4K you will be gpu bound even on the 1080ti, unless you are doing more than just gaming. 1440p and most definitely 1080p is a different story story. at those resolutions you will need a strong cpu to push higher fps.

I have not run them 24 hours without pausing them to game. So far they run cooler and use less power but the best is (they are quiet). Very little fan noise verses the GTX 980 SC they replaced. I am very impressed and love the lower price. All brands sold out in minutes in Newegg.com and only 1 per address so I got 1 MSI and 1 Zotac. EVGA sold out first followed by ASUS. First partial day running and NO ISSUES. My 980 SC are on ebay if anyone is interested.

I just got mine yesterday, but it won't be folding full time, it'll be doing a gaming/folding combo for now, the other two GPUs I have, the 1080s, will be folding however if temps allow it.

Update: I have an esimated 1.2 mil PPD for my 1080 ti, and is currently running at 71-74c with two other cards in the system (both 1080s) I am using the custom fan profile of Precision XOC (the default "custom" one) and my case has pretty good airflow all things considered. Layout is 1080 ti FE slot 1, 1080 FTW Hybrid in slot 4 and 1080 FTW ACX 3.0 in slot 7. The ACX is dumping some heat back into the case, but it seems to be handling it OK (and I should perhaps switch my hybrid radiator to exhaust, as it's no longer the one that needs the most cooling)

Sounds like you do not have a Blower Cooler, Mine runs at 70C -74C with GPU Fan set to 90% @ 2013MHz

My computer sits on my desk, having the fan on the GPU at 90% is loud. Blower Cooler, what are you talking about.
