Well then it sounds like you might need to go under water then.

Yeah kind of scared of doing water.  I have only used the store bought CPU water cooling.  Cooling video card with me making some custom is scary.

Thinking about getting a 1080TI FTW and putting the 1080TI in the lower slot.  That should let it run cool and dump its air outside the case and that would help the 1080TI FTW stay cool.

You can go Hybrid and run push/pull fans on the Radiator at low speed.

NZXT Kraken G10 adapter with any one of several off the shelf CPU all-in-one's will likely fit the 1080 Ti as it fits 1080's including FE.  VRM's on a 1080 Ti should be cooled when using a G10 as they look to be on the fan side of the adapter.

Putting a 970 below a 1080 ftw raised the Temps 10 to 20 degrees. I was running the FTW at 100% fans to keep it cool in the high 60s. Without the 970 in I get high 50s to low 60s with under 50% fans.
The difference is crazy. And the 1080 is taller than the 970 to boot.

Re: POST 1080TI Folding PPD here!! 2017/03/21 19:18:28 (permalink)
Hey all! I'm folding on my 1080 Ti getting somewhere around 1M PPD.

Question on points: I'm new to tracking mine since I always used to just fold anonymously. How do you view if you're getting the QRB points? I googled and understand the criteria (80% return before preferred due date and 10+ WU with passkey) which I meet. Here are my stats: http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=userpage&username=zswickliffe

Is there an easy way to tell if I'm getting bonus points? I've tried looking through the logs but they're a bit confusing.

EDIT: Doh! I think I figured it out... It shows "Base Credit: XXXX" and then right below there "Estimated Credit: XXXXX". I presume if you're not getting the QRB then you'll only get base credit and your estimated credit = base credit. Mine is higher so that means I'm getting the bonus?

Is the Client Set to FULL?
Also on Pascal GPUs we use client-type = advanced

Looks like you may be Folding on your CPU, I would recommend not Folding on your CPU.

Also you have to complete a number of WU before you collect the extra QRB. I think it is 10.

Client is set to full.

Just added the client-type = advanced to my client configuration options, did I do it correctly (see attached)? Any reason why you guys choose this option? Sounds like it could only lead to problems...

Sets a client preference to request late stage beta work units if available. This is only a request for a specific type of work unit, and is never a guarantee the client will received this type of work unit.  If none of these work units are available, and regular work unit will be downloaded instead. This switch is not intended for machines where stability or usability are the primary concern (e.g. corporate or education environments). Its use may lead to the client running experimental projects, which may be less stable or much more complex. This setting is not recommended for a machine which is not constantly monitored.  This setting may require more donor intervention. The availability of this class of WUs is based on the current projects that are running, so there is no guarantee the client will get these WUs. This setting has no affect on PPD.  PPD for these WUs are benchmarked and set exactly the same as every other work unit.  However, due to an occasional instability, the WU might fail, which results in lost points, so overall PPD might decrease. When beginning new simulation projects, they are carefully rolled out using a Quality Assurance (QA) protocol which involves internal testing by members of Pande Group, then testing by the Beta Team, release under Advanced Methods, before a final full deployment across all of Folding@home. This gradual rollout is to prevent problematic WUs and software from getting released to the public and to allow donors to have some choice in terms of bleeding edge donations. The Advanced Method option tells the client to request WUs from projects which have past most — but not all — of their stability testing. Please use this option carefully, and report any problems you encounter to the appropriate section of the Folding Support Forum.

I am folding on my CPU - any reason why not? Does it negatively effect anything?

What is your TPF on your GPU?

On your CPU make sure you have one Thread or Core free for your GPU is all.

client-type = advanced Stops some bad Core 21 Projects that do not run well on Pascal but do run fine on Maxwell.

Yep, selected 6 threads (8 thread CPU) since sometimes there are problems getting work for 7 threads. So two threads left open.

TPF for my GPU right now says 4min 21 sec

Yes Odd will cause issues.

Click on the GPU and take another photo and Post to see what Project and other info if you can.

Here  ya go.... I just noticed that ID in the folding slots and ID in the work queue are different for the GPU. Not sure how that happened?

Also: You confirmed that I applied the client-type = advanced correctly?

38 Seconds is better then 4min 21 sec that is for your CPU.

Yep you look good to go.

zswickliffe, the reason CPU folding is not recommended is the points earned are not worth the electricity to run the projects. It has not always been this way, but is the current recommendation. There is nothing wrong in doing so, I mean it is extra points, but. Hey welcome aboard the Team, glad to have you with us!!

Got it, figured it might be something like that. I'll probably stop the CPU at some point.

And thanks! Happy to be on the team.

I'm hovering between 1.09 and 1.22 M. Haven't gotten my AIO cooler yet, but I'm able to OC @ 1923 and still keep it at a frosty 69 C with my ambient room temps pretty low.

I was OC'd to 2050 and same story, it would stay mid 60s or so. I do see it drop down to 2035 sometimes but that's just GPU Boost 3.0 doing its thing.

Installed some Be quiet! Silent Wings 3 fans on my radiator today, man those puppies are quiet! Even at full RPM. Used to be deafening with the Corsair fans. Gonna make folding a lot less annoying.

Update:

Played with the OC a bit again today and I'm looking at over 1.3M PPD, almost 1.4M PPD.

Nice, I will do the same next week after I install the Water Blocks.
Looking to Run Steady @ 2100MHz anything after that is a Gift.
