PG 7th challenge of 2017.. Pierre de Fermat's Birthday Challenge Nov 17 12:00:00 to Nov 20 12:00:00 (UTC)
This is a GPU and CPU challenge lasting 3 days. It is a 7AM Eastern USA time
Tasks will run faster with the GPU, shorter CPU tasks I would run single threaded, the longer tasks multithreaded.
I have not tested that as of yet, bigger the task generally is better to multithread. Will have to run a few and see how it goes.
Tasks have to be downloaded AFTER the start of the challenge and returned BEFORE the end.
No bunkering before the start, tasks will not count.
Tasks will be credited right away as they are turned in. If there is an issue with the task, points will be deducted when doublechecked.
The link to the PG forum challenge thread is here.
http://www.primegrid.com/forum_thread.php?id=7670#111174
I would not have a cache of tasks waiting, the first task in get the credit as founder of the prime number found.
These GFN-projects are part of the challenge:
GFN-15
GFN-16
GFN-17 LOW

This starts at 7AM Eastern USA time

GPU tasks are not that long at all, may as well do a rolling start.

I did a bunch of testing, PM me if you're interested in results and are going to join in this challenge.

Maybe we should use a Google Group temporarily for private team communication until we get an answer on the EVGA side?  I think one of the Bills was testing it.

I was testing this but you must have a Google Account and it cannot be a shared account like what is used by the DC CPT.
I was testing this over the last few days, I did not think it would work out for those who do not want to share email address as so on.
Also I forgot who owns the DC CPT Gmail address.

Ya know, we never hid it before and I am sure it is not hard to test.
Not like they are not testing, or can't figure this out.

Genfer 17 for GPU and CPU give the best PPD
I found one task at a time was just a little faster than doing two or more, even though the GPU does not go to 100%
    Like 1:50 one task vs, 4:00 - 4:06 to do two, 6:10 - 6:15 to do three and so on. 10 - 15 seconds on a 2 min task add up ( GTX1080Ti )
I did find that running two tasks lowered the CPU time each GPU task uses, by a lot   And found times did not vary very much
Also if going to run CPU tasks, have hyperthread enabled, can do twice as many tasks in a bunch less than twice the time.
There is no multithread for genfer.
Points are the same for GPU and CPU
    419 points G17
    97 points G16

Remember Team DO NOT download any tasks Before the Start Date and TIME.
If you are not at your computer you can set it to download at 0.01 and leave the second one at 0.
This way tasks can run and complete but you would not have a Stock of them waiting to run that will not count for the Challenge.

This starts at 7am, if not up that early you can go ahead and start crunching before bed.
GPU tasks finish fast, a couple min, so yeah some will not count but the ones DL shortly after the start will count.
That is a rolling start. I will start mine when I go to bed, I am not getting up before 7 just to start tasks.
Can't bunker before the start of this challenge.

I have seen slightly better times running 2 at a time on most cards with my 1080FE being the one that runs 2 with little or no improvement.
