So I built the below setup a while back when I was playing Battlefield and Company of Heroes. Long story short I now only use my computer for my business, personal and occasional gaming. I literally just did a fresh reinstall as I had a blue screen while playing Company of Heroes 2. It seems SLI is a problem with old hardware and Win10 so I'm looking to simplify. I'm considering moving either to a RTX3060 or GTX1080 from my current GTX670 FTW SLI setup and keeping the rest of the setup as-is......maybe add another 8GB memory. Not looking to drop a lot of money just trying to buy me some time before having to do a new build. Let me know what you guys think....

Current Setup:
i7-2600k (not overclocked)
EVGA P67 motherboard
EVGA GTX670FTW x2
EVGA 850w G2
8GB Corsair Vengeance

Like I said it seems I'm getting bugs with SLI now so looking to consolidate and simplify, hence the reason for looking at RTX3060 or a good used GTX1080ti. Not sure if there are any other components I would need to upgrade but I've been out of the rig building scene for a while and just need some candid opinions on how I can improve my relic :)

yes, add another 8gb of ram. if you can find a nice quality non-mined 1080ti that would be good (they are getting cheaper) but a new (or b-stock) evga 3060 is the way to go if, i was upgrading that rig.

Thanks. I was actually looking into some 32GB memory earlier today to tie me over.

The 1080 Pascal hardware can be over six years old now, regardless of what it was used for I wouldn't recommend it unless it was dirt cheap. Far better off getting something new that includes a warranty. But yes, SLI has been relegated to history, single-GPUs are the way to go. Your 670 FTW cards are still worth something on ebay too, though the value is going down monthly at this point as GPU prices continue to drop. You might snag a 3060 or 3060 Ti and quickly get those on ebay to recoup part of the upgrade cost.

I would think that the 3060 would be better since it would have a warranty. Sometimes used 1080 cards have fans that are going bad at this point from mining.

I agree with most everyone here and recommend a 3060.

Thanks guys. I think I'm looking at this very close to how you guys are. I'm actually considering picking up a good used bundle 2021 MB/CPU then slapping in a 3060ti and calling it done. I would think it should last me a good while and allow me to play recent games and run win11 when it comes time. Might put me around $1k but I figure if it bought me about the same amount of time I've had this computer setup, that's relatively cheap.

I find normally it's the power of the video card that is most important right now. Most current games are still made with 4 cores being enough for the CPU but that could change in the future.

That's generally my personal PC building philosophy. Spend a bit more for the high end, then just hold onto it forever. A modern CPU today would be good for a decade easily, so would the board and RAM and SSD. Practically the only thing that would need an upgrade is the GPU, but I'm still using my five year old 1080 Ti and am happy enough with it that I will take my time seeing what the GPU market shapes out next year.

A 3060 Ti will outperform a 1080 Ti while the 3060 would not, so I would definitely recommend the 3060 Ti route for you. You don't want to be spending $500 on a GPU but still be getting five year old performance. You might also keep an eye on ebay for brand-new unopened EVGA 3060 TI cards, scalpers are still unloading unopened cards there for less than what they're going for in EVGA's store right now (especially after taxes). Non-refurb/non-OEM EVGA cards carry a 3 year warranty from the date of manufacture.
