Hi,

Last week was upgrading my 1080s to another card and when I removed them noticed that the back plate looked oily. Not sure if the thermal pads had started to degrade or not.
Further more this morning tried to mine with them using something called Minerstat which is a linux based miner app and noticed one gpu completely shut itself off after an hour as
the lights or leds went off. Not sure what thats all about. Guess I got to torture stress them each to see whats going on in Windows.

Thanks

That isn’t degradation, it is just thermal pad silicone weeping. It happens due to thermal cycling of the card. If you don’t like it, you can clean the oil off with some isopropyl alcohol, but as long as dust isn’t caked into it, it will not hurt anything.

Hard to believe with as long as you have been around and the frequent threads about EVGA's weeping thermal pads....
As far as your mining issues, as policy, I refuse to even consider helping anyone with them.

I was just upgrading my motherboard and noticed this also. I was a bit worried and was going to ask here, but you beat me to it. Thanks!

The internet. Silicone grease from thermal pads isn’t conductive, so it won’t hurt anything. Dust will cause problems because it can be capacitive.

    Clean your card occasionally.

You've still got grease all over your card, conductive or not conductive. How do you know that the grease won't hurt anything? I wouldn't pour a whole lot of grease into a computer case with all the components still in that'd kill it for sure.

Because it’s silicone grease, and it is meant to be on the card. That is a part of every thermal pad, and yes, we already know it won’t hurt the computer because it is already inside almost every single computer on the planet.

You should go play the what if game on Reddit. You can make good friends there. You aren’t “pouring grease” into your pc with silicone grease, so I have absolutely no idea why you are even attempting to have that conversation.

You actually can.In fact you can submege your whole pc in oil and run it just fine, but its not fun to clean. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSnGmAqQaFs  The little bit of TIM weeping your seeing wont hurt anything other than your OCD and the reason we know that is because we have ALL experienced it since we began building.

I would clean up the oil really well and switch to some better thermal pads. These are a little pricey, but they aren't gummy like other pads. So I don't think they'll degrade the same way: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ZSELP3O/?pldnSite=1

Those are from thermal pads. Nothing wrong besides aesthetics

Coming from your thermal pads. Nothing to worry about but if it bothers you you can clean it with some Isopropyl Alcohol
