https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/nvidia-rumored-7nm-ampere-gpu-graphics/ Nvidia could reportedly match rival AMD by announcing its own graphics processing unit based on a next-generation 7nm manufacturing process as early as next week at its GPU Technology Conference in San Jose, California. The 7nm architecture, code-named Ampere, follows Nvidia’s highly publicized Turing launch last year, which was based on a 12nm manufacturing process. While news of a 7nm GPU from Nvidia may be exciting, the new architecture might not arrive on a consumer card for a while, so gamers may not be able to immediately benefit from the technology. To corroborate a potential launch at GTC next week, Wccftech reported that Nvidia’s yields with its 7nm chips have been improving, citing reports from reliable sources, and if Nvidia could ramp up volume production, then an announcement could happen soon. It’s unclear if Nvidia will be ready to demo the powers of a 7nm GPU at the technology show, the company could use the venue to talk about the merits of moving from the current 12nm architecture to 7nm. AMD had beat Nvidia to the punch in January by announcing its Radeon Vega VII GPU at the Consumer Electronics Show and Wccftech speculated that AMD could announce its next-generation 7nm Navi GPU later this year.

For me I would be happy if they could make a card with better ray tracing and DSLL support. If the gains could be 50% we would see the technology really look far better even in multiplayer.

My GTX 1060 has close to 4 TFLOPS which is enough for 1080p gaming, maybe when it get a new LCD I will look at what is available

I do wonder what we'd see if they did announce a professional level version of Ampere. though I'm guessing we'd get only a ballpark guess at what a consumer level card would do. still, it'd be interesting to see, even if it's still awhile before it'll be something reachable for the consumer.

That is really what matters. I myself normally go up one level from what I need at the moment but the 1060 is a great card for 1080p. In the future though the switch to 7nm will make it so when you do get the new screen it will be a lot better for what the upgrade will be.

When they used to name a enterprise line GPU, a gamer equivalent would come soon after (6 months?) but since they didn't follow that route with Volta(?), anyone's guess is as good as mine at this moment.

That's new strategy for selling cards to mega reach people who can afford. They will ask 3000$ for 35-40% stronger GPU than RTX2080Ti. Damn NVIDIA killed my enjoying in unboxing new fabric sealed EVGA GeForce with foil over card box and forced me on second hand. When I remember day when my GTX780Ti K|NGP|N arrived. I never was so happy and they reached great score, I never so such dominance in every benchmark, in every game compare to other models on same frequency. And not only performance, GPU was incredible peace of hardware. I would continue tradition under different circumstances. I mean price should stay same or 40-50$ more for RTX2080Ti K|NGP|N, that mean 800$ max. Now is twice almost.

The company is expected to either tease or unveil a new graphics architecture succeeding "Volta" and "Turing." Not much is known about this architecture, but it's highly likely to be NVIDIA's first to be designed for the 7 nm silicon fabrication process.

Whelp I am hoping for impression stability and function gains over the massive RMA issues the Turing boards did suffer from, some cards dying within2 days of idle use others within2 weeks or 2 months max. So as Ampere goes I really hope that NVIDIA sorts that mess out and doesn't sell them for insane amounts only rich people can afford... Also I hope they solve the major Image quality loss DLSS does cause even after that so called patch, the image quality is still poor with DLSS on over it being disabled. NVIDIA may be the fastest but they also died within the shortest lifespans I have ever seen from any GPU as well, something with the VRM's overheating the VRAM.
Even a fixed refresh of the current turning boards is welcome, but yeah we'll have to see how to e so called RTX 3000 series will do.

And the real question would be, will it have RTX 1.0 or will we still be hardware beta testing?

you'll have ray tracing for all 10 series card and 1600 series - albeit with a performance hit

And low quality. Still better then nothing but it’s really not the same as the true hardware support. It will be great though for those who have 1080p monitors who bought a card to support 1440p or 4K in the future.

The more I think about it I think the ray trace support in the April driver update will be mostly for developers. When you consider the FPS people are getting with ray tracing with like a 2080 and figure without hardware it could be cut in half on a 1080Ti so like 30-40fps which isn’t really playable. On the other hand a developer can at least see ray tracing in the game without having to own a 2000 series card.

It would be icing on the cake if they release the drivers April 1. Regular gamers are used to playing games 30-40fps all day long on lesser hardware, so it's all relative.
