It seems Nvidia will showcase Volta in the second week of May.
The source of the rumor is this article from Fudzilla, so take it with a grain of salt.

There have been other similar reports in the past week, although not exactly the same.  However, I find it difficult to believe. When they have just released a very anticipated product, how is announcing a successor going to be an advantage to them or the AIB partners? The announcement of a new product would hurt 1080 TI sales. That would be to no one's advantage.

I doubt it also just ordered a new 1080ti so i'll be very pissed if the volta cards comes in just a few months.
Judging original nvidia roadmap they should be out early 2018...

The only way I could see it happening is if it were limited to Enterprise/data Center products.

Actually I know it is a rumor but I feel it may be true. AMD is getting ready to release Vega in the next couple of months. Had I known I would have waited I have 2 new Ti's. I don't think they are going to be robust as once thought. Being that they are being rushed I think they will still be on the 16 nanometer architect. Optimization and upgraded memory will push them forward but I don't think they will be a new game changer.

Welcome to Nvidia. Many people get mad and many say they wont come back, then amd under-delivers a little and everyone comes back.

I hope AMD nails it this time.

What I think is gonna happen is Nvidia will show the Volta architecture as a whole, focusing on the GV100 chip (the one for the enterprise/research etc) as they did when they first showed Pascal.
The Q3 launch of a new Nvidia consumer card will probably depend more on what AMD delivers with Vega than anything else.

This might be very possible, dependent on the threat of Vega but as someone said, it could be a enterprise release but, consumer PC level isn't too far behind once that happens.

I also hope Vega knocks it out of the park and forces Nvidia's hand.

Re: Nvidia to showcase Volta in early May !! 2017/04/26 09:30:24 (permalink)
This isn't all that surprising. Historically they've had about an 18 month release cycle for the x80 cards, and revealing the architecture now in May and consumer cards in November would put them right within that time frame. Examples:

    GTX 580: November 9, 2010
    GTX 680: March 22, 2012
    GTX 780: May 23, 2013
    GTX 980: September 18, 2014
    GTX 1080: May 27, 2016

There have been times it's been quicker, and 980 to 1080 was about 20 months instead, but they seem to keep to that release schedule.

Great. Nvidia Volta is already on the way and EVGA still doesnt manage it, to show information about the GTX 1080Ti Elite.

Hahah... this is my first build in 16 years.  I keep reading about how AMD has no top of the line GPUs (or CPUs until the recently released Ryzen) and I can think back to my last build with a GeForce3... I believe the Radeon cards were the big competitor.  I had an AMD Athlon XP 1800+ (1.53ghz) that I went with because it was cheaper than whatever Intel was pushing at the time.. (Pentium 4?)

If the rumors are true, it's going to be their research variant with HBM2. Fall 2017 or rather early 2018 we are going to see the GTX 2080 overlapping with the recent news about GDDR6. GPU chips will be on 12nm. Might also be the Titan, because there was a 384bit interface mentioned, that is usually used on Titans. So the regular 2080 might even be using an optimized iteration of GDDR5X.

VEGA will be good, but not dethroning nvidia. They are going to tweak it to the max performance to match nvidia like they did with the Fury X... resulting in bad efficiency and thermals. AIO Ref design lol. And AMDs are always crap at overclocking whereas you can overclock pascal like charm. It's just less noticeable because GPU Boost 3.0 is essencially filling the biggest part of the OC headroom for you.
