There are actually two variants of the GeForce MX150 in the wild - the standard 1D10 variant and the much slower 1D12 variant. Nvidia's move to sneak the 1D12 variant into thin and light notebooks was probably to meet the 10W TDP envelope as opposed to the original variant's 25W. However I feel that manufacturers should identify which GPU variant is in the laptop/notebook.

Nvidia has been sneaking them in? Nvidia makes ultrabooks?

If Nvidia doesn’t make ultrabooks, then they can’t possibly sneak something in that they don’t install. Hopefully manufacturers are paying attention, since the MX150 “Max Q” is specifically in the 13” ultrabook and not the larger version.

My bet would be that manufacturers knew exactly what they were getting and didn’t alert the consumers.

+1.... how are they sneaking something in if the other hardware calls for a low wattage part?!?!?!? Somebody obviously has a axe to grind, lol.
At the very least the retailers should be making that designation for there customers.

Manufacturers know what they are getting. It looks like this is just another way for the manufacturers to save a few dollars especially if the lower variant GPU chip is slightly cheaper.

Haha the picture of an Nvidia burglar breaking into laptop manufacturer’s business in the dead of night to replace hardware is hilarious. #NeverAgain!!
