https://www.windowslatest.com/2022/09/24/nvidia-confirms-windows-11-22h2-is-causing-performance-issues/

Windows 11 22H2 has an issue with Nvidia GeForce cards, the chip maker confirmed in a statement and promised that it’s working on a fix. In some cases, Windows 11 22H2 could cause BSOD, result in lower FPS and have a substantial performance impact on some systems, according to reports on Reddit and Feedback Hub. Nvidia spokesperson confirmed the chip maker is aware that users may see a performance impact on certain games when using the initial release of Windows 11 22H2 on systems powered by GeForce cards. Nvidia and Microsoft have identified issues with new “graphics debugging tools” added with Windows 11 22H2.

The companies are working closely to release driver updates that should fully address performance issues with games. Nvidia said the Windows 11 22H2 feature is accidentally getting turned on and results in performance problems, particularly lower frame rates in some games.
Thankfully, a fix is already rolling out and it’s available in beta from Nvidia’s website. Here’s the full changelog of the update:
  • Fixed issues with the in-game overlay for games such as Farming Simulator 22, Cyberpunk 2077, PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS, and F1 2021.
  • Fixed issues with desktop notification for rewards.
  • Fixed an issue where Alt+F12 hotkey was unusable in other apps.
  • Fixed an issue where performance overlay resets to Basic after a system reboot or starting.
  • Fixed an issue where the system restarts automatically after self-update.
It goes without saying that this is a nasty bug for early adopters of Windows 11 22H2 and it’s gamers who are mostly going to suffer here. Performance could also be lower in video editing apps, but a drop of just a few percent in apps won’t be noticeable. On the other hand, a system slowdown in a competitive online game could be frustrating for many users.

We’ll repeat our previous advice – it’s always better to delay massive updates like Windows 11 version 22H2 for at least a month. Although the feature updates are tested by users, it’ll always take some time to iron out unnoticed bugs. Windows Insider Program is huge and thousands of users submit their feedback, but critical rare bugs often get lost in the sea of other feedback. If you’re on Windows 10 or Windows 11 version 21H2, you’re likely best off waiting until next month at least. It’s better to wait until the October patching is done – and then tested by users to make sure it doesn’t break anything else. Remember, Windows Updates fixes are known for collateral damage.

Just wanted everyone to be aware of this. I haven't noticed any issues yet.

I did notice a very slight decrease in performance with the 3D Mark benchmark.

It is my understanding that NVIDIA is working with Microsoft to solve this issue.

    Microsoft strikes again

As a general rule reference MS updates, I always going into settings and set a new restore point before I update anything from MS, yes the 1 month rule is still great advice, I did not download the W11 update, before I took my CPU out returned it to Intel, but my settings were currently set in auto updates for 1 week, so 1st thing I do I get my New i9-12900k from Intel, (hopefully by next Friday, Intel will have my bad CPU by Monday), is keep my ethernet cable unplugged start my PC change auto update settings for as far out as possible.

The issue is with the GeForce Experience software. Users can either select to Enable Experimental Features within Experience and get the beta (version 3.26) or roll back to Windows 11 21H2 or wait until NVIDIA rolls out the official Experience update alongside the new driver in the week of September 26, 2022.

"Nvidia said the Windows 11 22H2 feature (graphics debugging tool) is accidentally getting turned on.."

     - accidentally? Is that like how Intel often resets many of my privacy settings when they do updates? That kind of 'accidentally'? lol..

Thanks for posting this, I was about to update my W11 laptop but thought I'd check here first - glad I did!

Is this only a conflict with NVidia GeForce Experience (as NazcaC2 posted above)? If so, then I can go ahead as I don't have GFE installed. If it's a driver conflict, then I'll wait.

I like some of the changes they made to the start menu in this update, although it appears we're still stuck with the fat taskbar...

This is NOT fixed.  I am on latest drivers, current windows updates, GFE beta new release, tried all the FrameviewSDK/HolographicShell fixes, etc..  The only thing that works is a fresh DDU install of Nvidia drivers, plus the Holographic Shell process ending, but only until I restart the PC, then its back to **** frames and stutters so bad I want to bash my own head in.  Just roll back to before 22H2 they say....tried it.  Didn't work, same issues.  I am this close to smashing $5000 worth of PC parts over this BS.

Try getting rid of GFE.. so download NVidia driver to desktop, DDU everything again, disconnect network connection (to stop Windows auto-installing NVidia drivers and GFE on boot), restart, install NVidia drivers yourself and do NOT include GeForce Experience, just do drivers only. Reconnect to network and see if you're good to go after that - and don't install GFE until this bs is corrected. I believe that is where the conflict is...  let us know if it works please.

Of course if you already don't have GFE then I guess that isn't the issue..

Just tried this, game didn't crash now, but now I am getting 20-40 fps and stutters out the wazoo... (On Win 11 21H2)  I had 22H2 and rolled back to 21H2 and the stutters followed.  I don't know what to do now.  I have a 12900k, 3090ftw3, 64GB Ram, blazing fast NVMe drives, and its all worthless because I can't game.

Damn.. it was worth a try. If you have an older (pre 22H2) windows installation media file, you could do a full fresh windows install.. pretty drastic, but if all else fails... :(

New NVidia drivers out today (10/12) v522.25 - not sure if they will resolve the issues...  hearing good things about improved FPS and 3DMark scores though.

Last night I did a full wipe and reinstall of Win11 using the current 22H2 build ISO and then installed GFE with 522.25.  Much improved.  I have been using Destiny 2 as my benchmark and while it is not butter smooth 100% of the time, I still get a random tiny stutter here and there, but my FPS are back (for the most part, 120-400 fps depending on location, with occasional 50-60fps drops, max settings).

So if you are having issues and nothing is working, try out a DDU and 522.25 install and if that doesn't fix it, maybe consider a windows reinstall (pain in the @#%, but what can you do).

I am happy with Windows 10 and simply refuse to "upgrade" on 11.

For me completely broken win 11 22H2. I had even format ssd and reinstall win 11 22H2 and the same. Issue was low gpu usage on lower resolutions in games and the same fps, something like bottleneck. I installed now win 10 2H22 and i will check that.
