https://telanganatoday.com/nvidia-rtx-4000-overpriced-with-little-value

Last Wednesday Nvidia showcased its RTX 4000 series of cards as gamers across the world watched how the new tech would be priced in a world where cryptocurrency mining is suddenly obsolete. As Ethereum implements its proof of stake approach, miners across the world have begun cashing out on their hardware as mining of decentralized currencies struggles to remain a profitable activity.

At such a time, the launch of Nvidia’s new cards was supposed to return their focus to their primary users – players of video games. However, the launch event indicated that gamers like you and me were simply not Nvidia’s priority as it eschewed affordability and value for money in every way possible. By launching just the RTX 4090 and two versions of the 4080, Nvidia didn’t showcase the successor to its most popular card the RTX 3070, a line of cards that has often outsold any other Nvidia GPU line since the days of the GTX 970. Nvidia has dug itself in a difficult hole with this move because when the 4070 does arrive it cannot outperform the cheaper 4080 as it needs to be priced lower. The problem further aggravates when you realize that the more affordable RTX 4080 is pale shadow of the 4090 and at USD 899 seems underwhelming.

Taking a look at the pricing of the three new cards – RTX 4090, 4080, and 4080 mini (I am going to call it that, deal with it) at USD 1599, 1199, and 899 respectively I can’t help but wonder if NVidia is out of touch with reality. During a cost of living and energy crisis most people are unlikely to spend this kind of money on a graphic card which is only likely to yield even higher electric bills when used extensively.

The 1599 USD price tag on a graphic card also shows how Nvidia has consistently raised prices and eked out every bit of consumer surplus on its most powerful line considering the Titan was priced at USD 999 just 7 years ago. I cannot think of any other line of electronic products that have steadily risen in prices the way Nvidia’s graphic cards have. And for once I personally feel that it is impossible to expect people to pay over Rs 2 lakh (an approximate pricing factoring in customs and import charges) on a single component. In a single pricing move Nvidia has made the 4090 an unachievable pursuit for not just Indian gamers but gamers worldwide. It’s simply no longer aspirational. The new 40 series of cards dubbed the Lovelace line (after Ada Lovelace) with a 4nm node and incredible number of cores and shaders seem to be extremely impressive at first glance, but the thing is the most affordable of the three, the 4080 “mini” uses a lower quality die and has far fewer cores than the 4090 and the 4080. From what I can ascertain, the lower priced 4080 isn’t worth the name it carries.

As the dust around the launch settles, it is important to note that Nvidia seems to have lost faith in the very gaming market it championed a few years ago and now seems to be exclusively targeting creators and corporations. By raising prices by nearly 500 USD across the 80 line the move seems not just staggering but confounding. I cannot in my right conscience recommend these cards considering that even I can’t afford to buy the 4090. Especially when you factor in that I am paid to play and study video games and gaming equipment. The time is now right for other makers of graphics cards to cater to the gamer. Your turn AMD and Intel!

I agree with the writer of this article.

The announced Nvidia 4xxx series cards announced are not very attractive, overpowered, and overpriced.  I am certainly more interested in the next gen AMD cards than I am in Ada Lovelace.  Of course there will be early adopters with no regard to price or performance...but you can count me out

Sure, cards are overpriced (comparing with current prices of Ampere cards), and 4080 12 GB is pure scam, but real value for 4090 and 4080 16GB yet to be seen.

How some can know value before knowing benchmark scores, power consumption, idle & full load temps etc.

what i saw and what everyone else  also saw   was all that "gpu power" depending on the "new" amazing DLSS 3

(that's is not compatible with the previous 3000 gen of course)

they where very very vague about it.

i am still wrapping my head around how that really works!
calculating and/or injecting "fake" frames into the games to hit a higher count on the FPS? just like that??

seems like.. cheating! either it can produce the geometry.. or it cant produce the geometry!

from the rest i saw to much W needed...and huge chunky colossal aircoolers that go beyond 3 slots of space.

and that super expensive 4080 12GB that gamers say it is in fact a 4070 >> but in reality i think its definitely a 4060 Ti   for about 1000EUROS!!!!

Over nearly 20 years I have owned 5 various Nvidia GPUs (XFX, 3 EVGA & 1 MSI) and 2 different AMD GPUs and now it’s all come crashing down with my support and respect for Nvidia being nullified. As I sit here researching parts for my low-mid range AM4 system I keep going back and forth on if I want to actually use my barely used Gen1 2070 or do a pure fresh start and go all in on AMD. Nvidia has shown their true colors with the EVGA debacle and now with the 40-Series debacle. It feels like Nvidia’s support for the gaming space is slowly dying and may have been for a while now.

"Overpriced with little value" more accurately describes Intel at this point.

Price seems fair coming off what we were paying for 30 series and in line with inflation expectations.  These cards are obviously going to be pretty amazing.  Author just sounds salty and jumping in on the "Nvidia diss track" bandwagon for clicks.

Why should i cough that much money to a gpu that requires a new PSU to run it? Plus the increased light bill every month? I will skip it it it

Those who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way.

Nvidia completely took PC gamers for granted and treated them like serfs begging for more gruel while the crypto mining days were blazing.
Now that ETH is proof of stake, this fruitless pseudo olive branch of "returning to our roots" from Nvidia is a slap in the face.
That and over 3 slots needed.
No thanks. I'm glad EVGA hit eject.

Fair enough.  I'm going off Nvidia's stats as were presented last week at their GTC, but I won't be buying anyhow until we've seen some 3rd party testing.

To play any game up to Ultrawide/Super Ultrawide/4k and below and just obliterate any game with frames, to even play at 8k that is a major feat and leap. The fact a 4090 even with the 16k less cuda cores destroys any 30 series card that was more expensive at launch for the AIB's is something. The price for that is going to be expensive sadly. People will pay it, just like they overpaid for the 30 series for the past couple years.

People will pay it... we are not going to see the over production that mining created. Nor are we going to be able to pick up a 4090 with the 4090 TI or the 50 series release like we got the 30 series a 3090 TI for 1099.99 oh yes please. Sadly nvidia is not going to let us the consumer win like that again anytime soon. There are people who are going to open up their wallet and say gimmie now.

I feel that it depends on the benchmarks.

Sometimes press forgets how it is for gamers who didn’t upgrade in a generation or two. Gamers who saw the $1999 price of the 3090Ti and held out for a 40XX series card will wan to see a benchmark but it could still be the card they want. Of course though I also can’t see what AMD does but they haven’t really made a card to equal NVIDIA at the high end in a while but in a way that is in for them because it’s about performance for the cards near the price range they do target.

If RTX 4080 16GB performance match or beat 3090Ti, will pay $1,199 for Founders Edition.
    • Base/Boost Clock 2205/2508 MHz
    • Max Computing Pwr (FP32) 48.80 TFLOPS
    • Memory 16GB GDDR6X, Clock 23000 Mbps, Bus Width 256-bit, Bandwidth 736 GB/s
    • TDP 320 W
But need to wait card release and reviews from respectable sites.

EDIT: In addition my EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G+, 80 Plus Gold 850W should be enough to power this card.
