Meh, not sold on wanting one of these since they are nearly the size of a motherboard now. I can’t wait to see the actual reviews from independent sources on how it operates and.

The theoretical TFLOPs sound impressive, 4080/16GB being 50% above a 3090, we'll see how that pans out the real world.  Big step up to the 4090 though, like it's a whole other tier/chip on that card, like a real titan or '4100'.

But again Nvidia outright lies about their performance gains.  I won't go out of my way to get one right away, though I will try.  No SLI either.

Part of me wants to think some motivation of EVGAs decision had to be they weren't willing to sell customers 70 series cards branded as an 80 series.

Yeah is the 4080/12 actually an AD104?  That would make a solid XX70 card in any other series.  Which is a bit steep for $900.  But I doubt EVGA had any concern about that.  Looks like it will be around a 3090 in performance, similar TFLOPs, but maybe a bit behind due to lower memory bandwidth.

Nvidia has truly chosen greed mode. Looks like my 1st gen 2070 will truly be the last Nvidia GPU I will ever use. As long as AMD and hopefully Intel sticks to a proper price to performance ratio that’s kept reasonable then that’s where my money will go to.

    yeah.... NOPE!

i can only imagine this 4080 12GB that is indeed a disguised 4070 will be reaching 1000 euros or beyond around here!

    SOLID NOPE!

    no wonder EVGA jumped ship..
i can only image all the R&D and tweaking / oc'ing and testing expenses to have in the end to charge even more to the final client to compensate all the hassle..

at this pace a vanilla RTX 5070 will reach the of cost  1200 euros in less then 2 years!

Gotta say I'm actually surprised they didn't launch the RTX 4090 at $1999. However the RTX 4080 price is just an insult. MSRP went from $749 to $1199 in one generation for the same class card? That's over a 60% increase in a generation. That's just disgusting.

How many times did they do it already? I mean increasing price on the new card of same class.

That's not really the issue, had they increased the price on the RTX 4080 by $100 like they did with the RTX 4090 I don't think many people would have that big of an issue with it. But they increased the price of the 80 class card by $350 over last generation's 80 class card. That's the issue, the over 60% price increase generation on generation.

Keep in mind that the 2080 was $999 and we saw a price decrease with the 3080.

To me though this generation looks possibly to be limited a lot by that 12GB of memory on a 3080 and I would have hoped for 16GB to become standard for 4K gaming.

I am also interested in the numbers from reviewers but also am waiting for reviewers not limited to a test selection of games picked by NVIDIA but instead that can test any game they want.

2080 non-A bin chip was $699 and the A-chip was $800, most AIB cards were around that.  Non-A 2080 Ti was $999, A-Chip 2080 Ti were $1200, AIB cards $1200 to $1500 or so.

I'll wait to see performance increase before commenting prices. Reviews and compare charts should start to leak soon.
TDP is not bad as result of shrinking node size from 7 to 4 nm.
From Ampere 3090 54 billion transistors Lovelace 4090 jumped to 76 billion transistors.
That additional 22 billion transistors must give performance gain.

So, no SLI this time. That means 4090 replaces 3080, not 3090. Hopefully 4090 Ti will be SLI ready.

I would partially blame inflation but at the same time Nvidia likes to adds it's 'inflation tax', leather jacket fee, stove top oven fee, etc, etc on top of it all.

I can't wait a year from now when they have too much inventory and they start slashing their prices.  Heck, let's see that in the first couple of quarters of next year.

seeing the nexus video on this topic from Steve.

and people ( in general) are going APE on the comment section

in this process it has become clear 3 things:

1 - name scheming a"4080 12GB" when EVERYONE knows its a 4070 and slap it a price tag of 1100 EUROS
(told my gf about this and she gave me  "THE  STARE" = don't you dare spend money on that craziness)
2 - pushing gamers to buy old cheaper 3000's and flush out old stock without a doubt

    and

3 - why EVGA left NGREEDIA
because at these prices.. if EVGA didn't had any profit at on the 2000's and the 3000's on the high-end..  certainly would have lost even more money on the 4000 gen high end
       >> i cannot fathom how ASUS, MSI and ZOTAC (the 3 main ones).. are gonna get out of this high-end with some sort of profit <<

So, no SLI this time. That means 4090 replaces 3080, not 3090. Hopefully 4090 Ti will be SLI ready.

It seems like SLI is fading into obscurity.  The bottle necks and diminishing returns of multiple GPUs is just too high for it to really make sense.  Along with fewer and fewer software developers are writing multi GPU code.

I was fully ready to buy the 4080 16GB from EVGA to go with a Ryzen 7800X3D and all the assorted components of a brand new PC build.  But with the shocking news last week, I just couldn't get excited about buying a Non-EVGA made GPU.  Even a brand new 4080!

So... I found a decent deal for a EVGA 3080ti FTW3 Ultra from a top rated seller on eBay. ($999.99)  It just showed up via FedEx less than an hour ago and I came up here to register the serial number, so I guess I am really doing this!  I had absolutely ZERO interest in upgrading to a 30 series card pre-September 16th, 2022.  A 4080 has been my upgrade path from my launch day 1080ti FTW3 for two years now.  But I just couldn't see myself buying another brand of GPU when EVGA has been my one and only choice for the last 15 years.

How's that for brand loyalty?  I'm jazzed to have a brand new 3080ti FTW3, but at the same time bummed out that I can't enjoy the 40 series announcements like I originally planned as a future buyer.

Anyone else really confused why the 4090 is the AD102 and the 4080 is both the AD103 and 104 rather than the 4080 being the AD103 and the 4070 being the AD104?
So does this mean the x70 cards are going to be cut down AD104??? Gross.
Kinda reminds me of the 600 series. I might just keep waiting and hope the 50 series brings thing back into reason like the 700 series did. Not that I have much optimism for the PC industry these days.

Keep in mind the $1599 is the starting price. When you look at the overclocked versions and the ones with better cooling you can expect $200-300 more. Remember the MSRP for a 3090 was $1499… and often the third party cards were $1999 or more.

    yeah!!
people still going APE on gamer nexus video comment section about this topic!!

and yes! many forget these are FE prices!
that's why EVGA jumped ship.. and i cannot understand why ASUS , MSI and ZOTAC still remain considering how much they have to invest still
    ( i don't care about gigabyte)

at AMD they would be  fools if they don't take this chance for a better price/performance release on the 7000's...
well see if they manipulate the gpu market prices
