i do not know if this belongs here but theres new rumors about a new card honestly i knew nvidia would go with a crazy name but 580? my guess was 490 580 looks pretty bad imo like ati 580 either way will this be the 512 cuda cores enabled gpu known as the 485 by the regular people? is this just a made up rumor or is there anything to prove this? http://www.pcgameshardwar...wegs/Grafikkarte/News/

Another post like this was moved. It appears to be about a new chip called the GF 110. I expect a new card, but doubt the December release.

the idea is to get better than GF100 performance, at less power / less temps.

that would be like a GTX485 with all the cores enabled and same or less power consumption as the GTX480, same thing thats been discussed last weeks.

GTX 580 = GF110, its a new core based on the idea's of the Shader/TU's design of GF104, rather than GF100. If they come out with a GTX 485 that uses 670 watts or less @ max load in 2 way SLI, I would get them. There is no chance of a fully enabled 485 coming out. GF100 is not cost effective for Gaming (or production) and will be set aside for the compute market.

Quadro and Tesla are used in compute setups, and the high cost of producing these dies is returned at a minium of 4 fold on these cards. on the other hand, the GF104 isn't so expensive to produce yet is very lacking in the DP performance making it worthless for many compute setups. the 580 is unlikely to have 512SP's as the math doesn't make it work. GF104 is 48SP's per SM, adding up to 384, the only way it can evolve is to 432, 480, 528, or 576SP's. im interested to see what it would perform like with the same SP's as the 480. 576 is the biggest they can go while still keeping the theoretical die size at or around the same as GF100, imo, 480 may be the prime number for the 580. The GF104 is comprised of 2xGraphics Processing Clusters. Each GPC has 4xSimultaneous Multiprocessors. Each SM has 48xCUDA cores and 8xTMU. to reach 768SP's/128TMU's GF110 needs 4xGraphics Processing Clusters. Each GPC has 4xSimultaneous Multiprocessors. Each SM has 48xCUDA cores and 8xTMU. This is highly unlikely as it would increase the die size 2-2.3x so im expecting 576SP's/96TMU's. 3xGraphics Processing Clusters. Each GPC has 4xSimultaneous Multiprocessors. Each SM has 48xCUDA cores and 8xTMU. So GF110 could get by with the addition of a single GPC, which would increase the die size by around 1.5x, so around the 550mm^2 mark for size, 497.31mm2 if you believe BSON's measurements of GF104.

Agreed. Nvidia needs a chip that runs as fast as the 6000 series or faster and uses less power than the gf100. That is the only way for them to stay competitive and probably the only way to have a really good dual core option. I just wonder how quickly they will actually be able to produce the card. I do not doubt they can do it, but again I am dubious it will be by December. If we do not hear it has been taped out in the next 2-3 weeks it will not happen this year I suspect.

I don't think Nvidia can do that w/ their current architecture, they need a process shrink badly.

There is plenty of room on the PCB for a 576SP gpu. And how hot will that run? There are too many factors involved to judge. the Typical of high end chips I expect.

is the last one a dual gpu looks like they got alot of new cards and the 512 enabled cuda cores card will be last in the highend series? i mean wow if this chart is true they've been busy 3 new cards i suspect the one with 768 shader unit is a dual cpu card but seriously this is alot of new cards if it's true i was ecpecting one not 3 http://translate.google.c...rg%2Fnews%2F2010-10-13 i do hope it's true i will litterally send a love note to nvidia if they've managed to create a card 50% stronger then the gtx 480 I MEAN the gtx 480 is already beastly imagine twice the power it would be like sli which moves me back to the dual gpu theory probably 2 gtx 480's must be a powerhouse but if it's a single gpu then i will send a love note to nvidia offcourse unless the card costs 1000$+

576 is the most logical i suspect the one with 768 shader unit is a dual cpu card but seriously this is alot of new cards if it's true i was ecpecting one not 3 its not. its a theoretical single chip GF110 that doubles up the GF104. highly doubted as the core would be massive.
