Tiger770 Setting the cause to Alzheimer's from <ANY> picked up a work unit on the first try for me.
That worked Only One Time for me and then my PC sat all night with no work.
Guess it's hit and miss then. Your mileage may vary. I will note that I've pulled one unit every completion since making this change without fail.

I blocked the bad server but it still tries and has to timeout. So it's just a huge pain until someone fixes it. Might be time to try some boinc gpu tasks over the weekend.

Being Thursday and 3 Days to correct this I do not think they care. At least they could Post a News Info about.

It is break time, so the students aren't necessarily around to fix it. Wonder if it's not so simple as rebooting the server.

Sorry guys. It has been working for me. The owner of the server has said they have had some serious issues and they are trying to resolve it. Picking a cause, pausing and restarting has also resolved it for other people. The fact that so many servers are offline and that this took as many days for an answer to come forward is really frustrating for all of us. by msultan » Tue May 30, 2017 9:39 pm Hello everyone, I apologize for the late response. 171.67.108.105 is my WS, which has been given assignemnts by the WS even though it has no assignable jobs. We are currently trying to fix the problem with the AS where it keeps sending jobs to my WS. In the meanwhile, I have reduced the priority of my WS so that it doesn't assign jobs as frequently(it is currently 1/10 of the original value). I am terribly sorry for all the problems that this issue is causing everyone. We appreciate all of your support and hope this doesn't turn you away from F@H. Again, I am sorry for the problem, and we are trying to fix it. Best, Muneeb msultanPande Group Member Posts: 122Joined: Mon Jun 24, 2013 10:27 pm This is the only communication from the Pande group. So does this mean your daily average will go up? :) Before this happened I never knew we could choose a cause to support. This opens up so much for personal preference.

Its Ok, In reality we probably arent folding for Stanford but running decryption algorithms for the NSA and CIA. But No seriously, they need to FIX this before they lose dedicated folders. I guess Schools out so no students are there to task out to fix stuff, they're probably themselves on Vacation or just sitting around drinking coffee staring at one another.

Typical PG way of "caring" for its volunteers. Take forever to reply, downplay it, don't offer any idea of what the fix is, when it will happen, etc. They should just have an auto forum reply in the Tech Support section: "Just deal with it. We may get around to fixing it." I have one rig getting work okay, the other requiring constant pause and restart client to "fix". Changing to preferred such as Alzheimer's didn't do it for me. GPUGrid with BOINC client is basically the same thing as folding if anyone is interested.

It's a stupid system that assigns clients to a server with no tasks available.

That is also an employees personal or work based Workstation. That is like having an end user using Domain Controller as the same.

bcavnaugh So Simple of a Fix Restore from a backup from 2 weeks ago. And Stop using this Server as your WS. Time for Muneeb to get his own Workstation.
The issue appears to be more with the Assignment Server sending clients to Muneeb's server when it shouldn't than with Muneeb's server itself. The "block that work server" workaround did help quite a bit, as the timeout from "can't connect to server" was a LOT shorter than the hours-long timeout from " assignment server sends you to a work server that has no work, but AS is gonna send you back there anyway". Anyone else get a laugh from the "I'm half an ed" comment later in the thread?
Now that vorsholk has stopped his abuse, I'm returning to folding. I no longer MOO due to abuses by certain "whales" in the Gridcoin community - so I now work the Distributed.net project directly again.

Muneeb Workstation is the Assignment Server "171.67.108.105 is my WS"

WS - WORK server, that the core Assignment server sends the client to even though the Work Server is reporting "I have no blocks available" and the assignment server should NOT be sending clients to it for work it doesn't have.

I have not had issues getting work since I have been set to only receiving Parkinsons WUs. The issue I have is getting finished WUs to upload to the collection server. They sit for hours before the program decides the server it initially is attempting to upload to is FUBAR'd and then switches to another. So, until they get this sorted I am moving to Crunching where they seem to have it figured out and apparently give a poop about their contributors.

Well on my end it's <Stanford> at it again...............No work on server and can't upload completed work. I've restarted, paused, smacked my router, yelled at the dogs, ran naked through the neighborhood.............and nothing. Just watching 1 GPU fold, 1 sitting idle and a WU wasting away to nothingness...............

I rebooted, as restarting the client after pausing those few that were still running a WU did not work. After reboot I changed the "Cause Preference" if the download was still unavailable as set (paused GPU first) Just got back to Full Power fun, fun, fun 9AM points are going to be "interesting"

Yes, mine are struggling to get new work even after what I said in earlier post today Stanford is letting us down Again Constantly manually changing ones "Cause Preference" setting is Not a Good way to run, but it seems to help get new WU So, the real "root cause" as I see it ---> is Stanford's inability to allow the automatic rollover to a new server when WU are not assigned Of course if Stanford's servers actually worked reliably, then it would be a non-issue --> must be hard to find good help
