Should I be concerned? What exactly is this? I tried removing the dot by soaking a qtip in 91% isopropyl alcohol and swabbing the dotted area in attempt to remove it, but it wouldn't come off.

Sorry to slide in and and abuse your thread - but I've got almost the same question.

When I got the motherboard about a week ago it looked like this straight out of the box:

Lots of greasy spots and in some areas it looked 'corroded'. Is that normal?

The greasy spots are from flux residue and/or are related to the through hole soldering process.  Can be cleaned with alcohol, nothing to worry about.

Looks like they tried to have a clear spot in the pcb and got some air bubbles in the epoxy?  Hard to tell without looking under a scope with good light.

Looks like solder mask or adhesive.  It could have been an area of exposed trace that was fixed with that blob of stuff.  I'd leave it alone.

If that is the case the board is gonna be going back to newegg for replacement.

Gigabyte told me to send it back to newegg for a replacement, so that is what I will be doing.

You will get a replacement faster by dealing with Newegg over the mfg.

I like buying my hardware from Amazon (shipped and sold by Amazon) for Amazon return/exchange policy. They will ship out a replacement before receiving the defecting product back.

lol that's amazon, sent me a return as a "new" $500 board before.  It was a bit obvious as the bags were open and there were two socket covers in the box...

It was from Amazon directly.  Board was Gigabyte X299 Aorus 9 which was 530 bucks with tax.
