Welp, nevermind on the question, it definitely is the power supply. I moved some stuff around from the back and took a close listen and it's totally coming from the PSU. Looks like an RMA is in order.

Just glad it's not the 3090 and I have another PSU I can swap to, tbh.

I’ve heard PSUs can introduce coil whine. My 2080 Ti had it bad, and I was hoping my 3080 Ti wouldn’t have the same issue. Lo and behold, it does. Been using the same EVGA 1000 T2 for both cards. Beginning to wonder if I should connect a Corsair PSU I have to see if it makes any difference.

So, your PSU is what’s whining and not your 3090?

Yep, it's definitely the PSU. I thought it was the card at first, but confirmed it's the PSU. Gonna switch to the new G3 I got. That's two PSUs I've had to RMA within 2 weeks of each other.

Well, at least PSUs are easy enough to swap out. Re-doing cable management can be a pain, but it’s better than tearing apart a whole build if it were the card. That’s what I’d have to do since my system is water-cooled. Unfortunately, the whine I hear is definitely coming from the GPU. I still may try a different PSU to see if it makes any difference. Anyway, at least your issue is being resolved.

One way to isolate this for sure, is using a 3' or so length of hose, similar to fishtank airline, as a stethoscope.  You might also try different PCIe outputs on your PSU.

I probably would have tried this, but I just finished putting in the G3 and I'm getting zero coil whine when full load. I'm also pulling higher clock speeds while running Furmark surprisingly. With the P+, I was hitting 1770 mhz clocks, now I'm hitting 1905 mhz.

I feel like there's just something wrong with that P+.

Temps are the same and utilization is the same.

EDIT: Well, clocks dropped down to between 1785 and 1830 mhz, but is still averaging 30 mhz higher than before with the P+.

Thanks, yeah. The new G3 I got back from the RMA is having zero coil whine at full load, so something definitely wrong with that P+.
Sucks that yours has whine, though; The worst part is having to wait for the RMA, that's why I bought a new PSU before I RMA'd the bad G3 I had.  Options are less with a video card right now, unless you RMA and do the cross shipping if it's available.

Something is up with these.  I bought a brand new EVGA SuperNOVA 1300 P+, had the worst coil whine I've ever heard.  I did a cross ship RMA, just booted up the new one, same issue.  The 850 GA I used in its place during the ship was dead silent.  EVGA's refund process is laughable with how long cross shipping an RMA takes, but I'd love to return this.  I cannot begin to describe how annoying the noise is.  Every page load in chrome, every mouse scroll.  Any load level.  It's insane.

Just wanted to vent my frustrations a bit. I had a Supernova G3 in my machine that became unstable and it started crashing the PC when it went to sleep. Sidenote: I'm running Furmark to make sure everything seems fine and Furmark hits 560ish FPS and ~93% utilization when I do not have the Furmark window selected. When I select the Furmark window and bring it to foreground, the FPS drops to 235 fps and the GPU utilization drops to ~40%. Anyone ever see anything like this with Furmark?

I have this exact PSU 1300 P+ and am having the same issues. I have a video on my phone of the noise it makes but its too big a file to email myself. Should I submit a RMA ticket as well?

I'm honestly kind of surprised manufacturers are processing RMAs for coil whine and not simply chalking it up to "that's the nature of the technology; we can't guarantee coil whine will be inaudible from unit to unit." I have been using Corsair PSUs for decades and never experienced it - only in my GPUs - but I can understand it being irritating if you're quietly trying to use your computer and get the constant on-and-off buzzing.

I'm not trying to dog on EVGA, have spent thousands and thousands with them.  Would consider myself a fan boy.  This is my SECOND 1300 P+.  I RMA'd the first because of this noise.  Tonight it shut down while I was streaming, twice.  I don't think I'm anywhere near the limits of this power supply and unsure of what to do other than just continually RMA it.  It's so expensive.  I had one of the original SuperNova 1500's that worked wonderfully for years, my SuperNova 850 GA (new as of about 2-3 months ago) works beautifully.  I've never heard a PSU make this much noise and it only happens under load.

Think I told someone a few weeks ago to avoid these until they were out for a bit and proven to be good, after the G5 1000w fiasco. Thanks for being the guinea pig and reporting back with your findings.

They have the 1600w P2 in stock, it's $140 more, maybe they can upgrade you.  It's the old battleaxe Superflower Leadex platform and very proven, great PSU if you can fit its excessive girth.

I'm such a noob. Those directions worked. Mine sounds exactly the same. I have a link a few comments up with a video as well.

Just talked to support on the phone, they're RMA'ing this second unit.  Person I spoke with indicated that there are no known issues and talked to me about how coil whine is typical.  I explained that the noise is loud enough for me to hear it over music while wearing headphones.  Suggest anyone else experiencing this do the same.

If it is so typical then maybe it should be listed on the product page somewhere "This product may produce coil whine and be very annoying". Most people do not expect to hear annoying noises coming from their PC's (you know what I mean). But that is just me I guess.

Let us know if you get one that doesn't whine please.

I did at one point on the phone call with support get told that it might go away after some time...  I have not found this to be the case.  The support person mentioned that I should try running furmark for longer than 30 minutes.  This did not help.  Today I decided to try with both an RTX 3080ti, and an RTX 3080.  I ran kombuster benchmarks on both at the same time I was running the CPU burner.  I let that run for about 45 minutes and it made the noise the entire time and never got better.  That should have been 900+ watts.
