I'm building a new PC (used old GPU/SSD) but I can't get a video feed.

Mobo: EVGA Z390 FTW
EVGA 240(?) CLC
PSU: 750 EVGA G3
CPU: 8086k
GPU: amd radeon fury x
Ram: 1x stick of HyperX Predator Black 8GB 3200MHz DDR4
SSD: Samsung 850 evo  (windows 10 installed)

Fans and lights work but Motherboard shows D4 (or is it 04) + no video + doesn't beep.
*the USB's (keyboard/mouse) don't light up

Nothing shows up on the monitor unless I swapping the GPU with an old GTX 760 where it says something about legacy drivers(?) and every time I tell it use the default/optimized settings it just loops back to the bios start screen. Never got it to load the OS.

*It says CPU/ram has changed but I believe that’s normal on first boot?
*IIRC the GTX 760 says D4/04 aswell
*If remove the hard-drive connected it changes error to 97
*USB's (keyboard/mouse) light up when the GTX 760 is in

I've tried:
Re-seating everything
Moving ram around to different slots
Checking all cables
Tested GPU/SSD is another PC

Is it possible the SSD is just to old (or windows 10 doesn't like being moved to a new mobo's?) and isn't supported?

Only thing left for me to try is create a USB boot drive (and/or buy a m.2) and see if that works.

Any suggestions?

After googleing around it sounds like it "might" be a bad ram stick?

I only have the one DDR4 and no other mobo's that support it so I might end up taking the stick to a computer shop and see if they can test it.

Things to try...

#1 Clear the cmos.
#2 Go into the bios and set all your pci-e lanes to GEN3 mode instead of AUTO.
#3 Try the card in a different pci-e slot.

Moving an ssd from an old system to a new system with a different chipset is going to make windows 10 not boot. You'll need to reinstall windows to fix the problem of not being able to boot into windows, or you could simply move the ssd back to the old system and sysprep the old windows installation then move the ssd to the new system to keep your old windows installation.

#1 Clear the cmos.  <- have tried (took battery out for hours // pushed the red button on back)
#2 Go into the bios and set all your pci-e lanes to GEN3 mode instead of AUTO. <- Might try that in a bit (would have to swap back the GTX 760 just to see bios)
#3 Try the card in a different pci-e slot. <- Have tried

If it was an OS/hd issue shouldn't something pop up "no OS found" instead of looping back to the bio's?

I'm just going buy a cheap m.2 ($40-50) and install windows on if it lets me. Gota figure out the video output part first.

IIRC if you installed windows in legacy mode then tried to boot the drive in UEFI mode it will just throw you back to the bios.

Just before my current rig in signature i've had Asrock A88X DDR3 mobo, A10-7890K on the same Plextor SSD with windows 10 home 64 installed, i just uninstalled AMD drivers before mounting my current rig and it boot up without any problem !!! Then just had to install Nvidia drivers for my new graphics card that's all... But keep in mind that only non oem windows 10 versions allow that... Otherwise i've read the z390 ftw manual if you've got only one stick of ram you have to put it in the slot 2 only !! And maybe your issue is due to your i7-8086k which isn't listed in the cpu support list...

Haven't gotten a new SSD/m.2 yet so I can't be sure but it does support the CPU:

The ram in slot one may very well have been the issue but I don't have the willpower ATM to test it out and I'm probably gonna wait till I get a new SSD/m.2 and a new copy of win 10 (ETA 1~2 week).

Ok update time.

Got it working with a new m.2 drive -> installed windows -> updated windows -> swapped back the fury X (I used the old GPU to install) and it won't boot.

Same error code (04 or D4) no video output no beeps and as far as I can tell it doesn't even get past post?

I know the cards good works fine in every other system. Is it possible the mobo isn't compatible with the Fury X?

It could be guilty but let's wait for experimented forum members what they have to say...

And you have updated to the current bios correct?

You might need to update the BIOS on your Fury X

This appears to be the latest and it adds UEFI support :)
Here is a tool for flashing it.

Thank you that seems very likely.  I'm gonna have to reassemble the old PC to update/use that tool tho. It might be a few days before I have the free time.

/edit or maybe I'll just take it to a computer shop D: that video I just googled up seems complex.

Do you have CSM support enabled? If no, turn it on. Your Fury X should boot then.

It was disabled by default. Enabling worked on the first try.
