I'm not sure the current status of New World, but here's the TLDR from some previous threads (note: I haven't checked them in quite some time)
New World, or any other published game, should not cause damage to any card running factory specifications. If the card fails, it is the card's fault. That said, it also seemed to be the case that New World was putting very unpredictable ("odd" maybe a good descriptor) loads on GPUs that was more stressful to them than any known GPU stress test. There were people who could run furmark, kombuster, or whatever other high load on their cards and the card would be fine, but NW would kill it. This indicates the likelihood of rapidly shifting loads that caused the GPU to switch between light and high loads at a high rate of speed and the transitions seemed to be causing the damage. That said, the GPU should protect itself, and most do.
Full disclaimer here, as noted above, I haven't checked on this issue in some time as I have no interest in that game. The game could have been patched to balance the loading, and GPU vBIOS's/firmwares could have been updated to handle that loading better. It would be a good idea for you to download Precision X1 and make sure your card's vBIOS and firmware are up to date. Also, make sure you have good airflow/cooling in your case. One thing you can do that may help is drag the power slider down to ~65% if you really want to be on the safer side. Or you can go full-tilt and RMA the card if it fails because EVGA is covering failures that happen in that game if your card is under warranty.
