Well, my wife has the lg g5 and I have the s7 (active) and from what I hear, theres not a whole lot of new things on the g6 or the s8. I can text a whole lot faster on the lg but just about everything else, I like a little better on the samsung. Performance wise, they do about the same for me. Screens, sounds and everything else are a toss up. Seems like the lg has had a few more problems dropping calls but att sucks where I live. That's my 8 cents

The LG G6 looks nice BUT they downgraded the specs slightly on both the front and rear cameras. No idea why they'd do that. If they had kept the camera pixels the same with some improved software I would certainly have said G6, but it depends how important the camera is to you (I transfer photos to view on my desktop - lower pixels start to look grainy on a desktop monitor). Nice big screen on it though. I'm still sticking with my G4 for now.

Samsung.. I wouldn't really want to be an early adopter for fear of finding this new model has been weaponized lol. I'd wait until it's been out for a while and safety is established.

Nokia I know nothing about - haven't had a Nokia for many years. They were good solid phones back in the day though.

I am so glad you aren't considering an iPhone.

After iPhone updated to IOS-7 I went back to android and haven't looked back.
It's a $700 phone that can only perform one task at a time....Junk.
(Its a nice phone, just not for me)

That camera thing isn't as bad as it looks.
So my G5 has two rear facing cameras for 155* pictures.
One cam is 16MP and the 2nd cam is 8. also one has mechanical stability and the other doesn't.

So on the G6 they did dual 13MP cams.
(Also mega Pixels don't mean better pictures, bigger sensors do)

I think the front camera (mostly for the people doing selfies and facetime) is a wider angle 100*. So we will see how it fairs to the G5s 8MP.

    I use the G5 too!

My wife still has the G3 and its just time to replace it, I think 2+ years with a phone thats is 3+ years old with loads of hours on it is fair game to replace.

    Anyways,
I went to Sprint at my local mall and got an awesome deal on a new phone.
we have decided to stay with LG and get a G6.
It's a pre-order so we will have it by the 7th, not to long of a wait really.

    BUT
we also got a free 49" LG 1080p TV and a free Google Home and 300 bucks back for returning to Sprint!
Oh and the $50 unlimited data plan cant be beat by anyone.

While the S8 is cool, the battery thing was a concern and they were only doing a free promo where the phone comes with AKM earbuds and some type of VR headset.
Also the curved screen may not work out well for us because of toddler.
It was a a awesome looking phone but the LG just looked better and felt better, its a freakin tank.
also the LG software is our favorite, say what you want but its way better then stock android and some of the other crap out there.

Nokia would be a pain in the butt to get and I really wished I got the chance to hold it, b/c for under 500 bucks its a beast of a phone.

Anyone have the LG G6 yet?
I know Verizon has them shipping already.

I went with a Caseology  case and Spigen glass screen protectors
    https://www.caseologycases.com/collections/lg-g6/products/lg-g6-case-parallax

Only concerns I have are screen burn in and GPS.
My LG G5 gets screen burn in and my GPS is garbage now, worked great with android 6, but with 7, not so much.

Just yesterday, my work got us all new iphones. I am not an apple/mac fan at all and this only confirmed it. I have to carry this fart-box around with me and it SUCKS. ...
I think you will be pretty happy with the G6. There hasn't been too much in terms off anything "groundbreaking" with any cell phone to me in a long, long time but the G6 is a good looking phone and seems to perform pretty well. It's funny to me that most cell phones hold the highest interest in things completely unrelated to making a phone call.... Screen res, benchmarks, design and ports. I bet if I put my sim card in my old school flip razor, the call quality would be exactly the same...

Think they lowered the G6 specs so as not to take away from the V20.
I own the V20 and it's a great phone with an amazing camera with plenty of space with room to expand. So if it comes close to the V20, I would get the G6.

I've been needing a new phone for a while now.

I keep going back and forth between the Samsung G7 and the HTC 10. Galaxy 8 is a no go for now because I try to avoid buying the first model of things.  I hate paying to be a beta tester.   Briefly considered the iPhone but discounted it for numerous reason, biggest being cost.

I hadn't really taken a look at the LG stuff, but looking at the LG G6 it has all the options that I want/need.

The LG G6 is a great phone but the only downside is use of last year's Qualcomm flagship 821 snapdragon.
The Nokia 6 if it the same Nokia 6 as launched in China will only have mid range specs (snapdragon 430).
Of the three listed in the OPs post the Samsung Galaxy S8 is the best choice.

There are more new phones coming soon with the Snapdragon 835 but it will be a while because Samsung will get the first batch of chips per their manufacturing agreement with Qualcomm.

    I have the LG-V10.
Its just as good as the v20, has just about everything the v20 has.

I am not happy with LG switching controls to the side of the phone.
Having them on the back is intuitive to me, i always would turn volume up or down on phones with control on the side.
That was LG's defining characteristic with there phones.

I do love my v10. manual camera controls, just like a decent slr.
the ability to expand storage up to 2 tb, for when sd cards get that much capacity.

Lg software and apps are pretty good too.

    I got a V20 and my wife got a G6.
My company phone is a G5....

V20 is nice, I like the wide screen, reminds me of my G3.
    DAC is sweet too.

I looked into this and the differences seem to be small.
The 821 is a beast and over the next two years I don't see the difference between the the 821 and 83#whatever series being to drastic. I get that its smaller and uses a bit less power but in real life I don't think it will be a game changer.
Maybe it leaves room for LG to offer a LG G6s or LG G6+ or LG G6 Late 2017 version of their phone, maybe it will show up in the V30.

I came here to recommend an iPhone...

With that not being on the table, I would say go with the Galaxy S8, having had the opportunity to use it a decent amount at work I can tell you it is a really nice device.

I started with a Sony Xperia Ion LTE quite a ways back. I still have it here somewhere. It was a very solid phone. Now I'm sporting a Nexus 6 with android 7.1.1 on it. I love this phone. Wish they'd consider keeping up with the newer versions of android for this one. I'm sure they have their reasons but I don't want to move towards a modified or repacked version of android for this phone once android 8 comes around.

No clue. I'm currently living in Greenland and don't have a phone (no cell service on this iceberg).

It held up really well for the 2 years I had it. I even fell in a river while kayaking pulled it out of my pocket and was able to still use it (I had the waterproof model). I also dropped it quiet a few times and the screen never broke.

I have the OnePlus3T and it has everything I need at a lower price point. I will probably buy the next OnePlus model when it comes out this year.

I'm on an AT&T MVNO which allows me to use any GSM unlocked phone and the OP3t is one of the phones I have looked at recently to replace my Note 5.  Also looking at things like ZTE Axon 7, Mate 9 Pro, and LeEco LePro3, Asus Zenfone3.  Many of these phones can be had for far less than 1/2 the price of a "flagship" device and have comparable specs.  Plus generally unlocked phones get updates faster than carrier branded phones and have unlock-able boot-loaders so you can tinker with ROMs.  Most people have never heard of these "off brand" devices - and when they do they turn their nose up.  Case-in-point: the wife's S6 edge just died recently and I bought her a Huawei Honor 6x for $200 at Best Buy.  The first thing she did was scoff at the brand.  After using it two days she keeps ranting and raving about how much better/brighter the screen is, and how the battery lasts substantially longer...  And that's going from 1440->1080 screen!  I can't tell much difference visually between 1440/1080 at the 5" screen size but battery life difference is pretty dramatic.  Now she's found that there are 100s+ of designs for cheap cases she can get online which was always one of her gripes with the other phones she's had.

Bottom line - I am done buying mainstream "flagship" devices.  Phone specs change too fast, my Note 5 was not cheap, and is still not running Nougat - while Android "O" developer preview is out! What's the difference in buying one really expensive phone you feel obligated to keep 2+ years because it was so expensive or spending 1/3 on one and then upgrading every year or so?  Still ahead money-wise after 2 years!

LG V20 is hands down the best phone I have had.
    Quick phone history
    Iphone3s was awesome.

Iphone 4s was awesome. But IOS 7 ruined iphones for me.

My G3 was impressive and still is.

While I only had it for a brief amount of time the v10 with its metal edges and rubber back was great. It was like a G4/V20 mix.

my G5 was/is a place holder and while its insanely fast the screen burn-in and GPS failure are upsetting. However the removable batteries and awesome camera are worth it (my work phone).

My wife's LG G6 will be released Friday to us by Sprint and I doubt there will any issues with that thing.

    But back to the V20.
What a monster. Metal body, removable battery, dual mics, 2nd screen, DAC, headphone amp, giant QHD screen, speed, power, dual cameras, wide front cam, and everything else.
This is certainly a Halo product.

I dont see anything topping this any time soon, unlesss a V30 is in the works.
    Good luck Samsung.

I came here to recommend an iPhone...

With that not being on the table, I would say go with the Galaxy S8, having had the opportunity to use it a decent amount at work I can tell you it is a really nice device.

I thought the S8 was only preorder...not available yet ???

Highly recommend the Galaxy S8, but that's based purely on the research I've done online, not on real world usage. Spec wise it's superior and it looks amazing too :)

Though it wasn't mentioned, I recommend the Google Pixel as well if you like to have a solid camera and timely Android updates.

That was the key part. I work part time at Best Buy at the moment and we have had a demo on hand for more than a week now.

As a update I wanted to follow up. The G6 is awesome and I love the V20.
My company G5 will be getting replaced with a V30.

My brother came over tonight because he finally broke his G3, so I gave him my old one. We both like that phone a lot.

I hope the next line of G## phones bring back rear buttons though.

Iphone SE here.  Go with a bigger iphone next time. Android/Google just scare me now days, and the internet is just getting worse. At least with Apple servers/Apple Apps I feel like Apple cares about its system being solid and more secure....
