Re: New EVGA.com Notification Checkout Process 2021/03/04 08:42:34 (permalink)
Back at the beginning of September when I was preparing for what I thought would be a quick hunt for a new 30 series gpu and a new AMD cpu (which wouldn't be launched in until November), I joined a number of Discord channels following inventory stock levels. None of them helped me secure a card. However, in one of those Discords, a small community of regular audio channel folks came together organically. Over the following months, even as some members of the community with fast F5 skills were able to secure cards and retire their watch in favor of gaming bliss, the group stayed together...regularly chatting or playing an online game together, celebrating when one previously laid-off member found a new job in the midst of a pandemic, worrying when two of our number came down with covid (one in Tennessee and one in Boston), and just generally growing in friendship. A random assortment of gamers of goodwill whose initial connection with each other is that we wanted a 30 series gpu; we now play together regularly (games with reasonably low gpu requirements such as Rocket League, Valheim and Among Us are among the regular diversions).

Well, today I am happy to report that the most geographically removed member -- a lone 20-something in Trinidad and Tobago -- has finally secured his 3080 FTW3 Ultra. After months of false starts -- an early miss was that when his name came up in the Notify Queue EVGA wouldn't ship to a freight forwarder and his card became a straggler -- he can complete his rig. A rig built of different pieces of hand-me-down components from his fellow members of the audio channel...a donated (but new) set of RAM, two SL120 Unifans (left over from another member's extra 3-pack), an AIO found off of a surplus/auction site by another member....  But a rig that, by this weekend, should be stood up.

There is no real message in this story. I just want to say, I am proud of his persistence, his willingness to ebb and flow with good and bad news alike, and his unyielding cheerful disposition as he waited patiently -- and literally -- for his boat to come in. Congratulations!

From that original group watching for their card, there is now only one; and I await the elusive, confounding, still-delayed Hydro Copper. But my day will come; of that I am certain. And yours will too; hopefully sooner than you anticipate.

Good luck today!

So I am wondering about this magical solution that EVGA has, the "queue" system they have, in essence I think its great !! but something does not make sense to me :

Basically anyone that clicks the "notify" button for their card, gets a reservation in a queue, and when your turn comes you get a window to purchase the card, right ?!

So where does BestBuy sit on the queue ?

I have seen the EVGA cards go in and out of stock at BestBuy many times, so obviously they are getting hold of these cards somehow, to further sell them. and they always are sold out before you even get a chance to add it to your cart, I'm assuming bots.

I would be interested to understand how BestBuy might have a priority access to the cards from EVGA that us users, the EVGA direct loyal end users, are struggling to get hold of ?

EVGA has a contract with best buy to supply cards to them. If EVGA does not stick to the contract and thereby deprive Bestbuy of revenue, Best Buy could cancel all future deals with EVGA depriving them of a storefront to sell. This may not seem like an issue now but when times are good for supply, EVGA will lose a lot of revenue as Best Buy stocks their shelves with competitors products.

So basically this still makes the queue system favorable to bots and scalpers who get it from BestBuy, as BestBuy has priority and so giving bots and scalpers priority access.

The queue system is separate. It has 0 effect on existing contracts with retailers.

What you say makes no sense at all. If those cards going to BestBuy contracts were going to the Queue, then the queue would move much faster.

You don't seem to understand how contracts work.

If EVGA is contractually obligated to ship 1000 cards a week to Best Buy, they must ship the 1000 cards a week to best buy. If they do not, it will harm business for EVGA in the future (possibly in the present with legal ramifications) even if it satisfies people in queue.

EXACTLY ! The queue does not move because of the contracts, the contracts has a TON of effect on the Queue, but the Queue has 0 effect on the contracts.

The contracts are preexisting. They have no effect on the queue because they never were going to not exist or end early. Any supply going to these contracts should not be considered as not going to the queue. The contracts are not changing since EVGA makes more by selling directly to consumers, therefor they are not increasing supply to retailers.

You stated the queue system has an effect on the contracts. Something cannot be favorable or dis favorable if it has no effect.
"So basically this still makes the queue system favorable to bots and scalpers who get it from BestBuy, as BestBuy has priority and so giving bots and scalpers priority access."

No; I did not say the Queue system has an effect on the contracts, that is wrong. I said the contracts delays the Queue system, and the contracts effects the queue, also I said that the contracts makes acquiring the cards favorable to bots and scalpers as retailers do not give 2 hoots about the queue as bots and scalpers can purchase from the retailers, so the retailers basically skip the queue for the bots and scalpers.

"So basically this still makes the queue system favorable to bots and scalpers who get it from BestBuy.." your words not mine. Queue system cannot be favorable if it has no effect.

No, Retailers are not skipping the queue for bots and scalpers. The retailers were always going to get those cards and its up to them to decide who gets it. The queue is separate with 0 effect from the contracts and therefor cannot be skipped.

Ooooo Enewt is live - updating his doc...

--- Edit: And now its done.....I never noticed a shared document get updated live, but I guess google does it nicely.

- As I was reading....all of a sudden a hot-pink cursor started moving around attached to a "Enewt" text badge which followed his every clicks as he updated sections of his document.
- He hovered around the Hybrid queue system - I got pretty excited.  Will the times get updated....
- but alas, it was just a tease  - there was no new updates to the all important (for me) line 3080 FTW3 Ultra Hybrid from when I checked last night....in fact no new update in the Hybrid section

Carry on. Today is another new day of Jacob possibly giving us some hope for the 3898s.

Basically what these contracts are saying is that BestBuy (newegg, microcenter also) customers are more important than EVGA customers.

If you buy an EVGA card from one of these outlets, you are still an EVGA customer. And these outlets are also EVGA customers as they have contracts and are buying in bulk. I agree with you that it's annoying, but it's completely to be expected. You're thinking in 2021, where yes, they could probably just sell exclusively on their website and still sell out every piece of stock. That is true. But these contracts were set in place in a time when EVGA would have been far more likely to make a sale from someone wandering into a retail store and buying their product off the shelf than they would through their web storefront. Perhaps in the future, if conditions continue as they are, they will shift away from these contracts, but that remains to be seen.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the community spreadsheet ☺️. I hope you all get your card soon!

Here's what I don't get:  Why on earth do some of you think EVGA owes us anything as far as an explanation???!!!  That part cracks me up - EVGA is voluntarily offering this service.  EVGA certainly has business deals and contracts that take priority over the queue - it is what it is, and no amount of foot-stomping, gnashing of teeth, and temper-tantrums is going to change that.  And, nothing stops any of us from pursuing other options to get a card.

If you don't like the way this works, don't like the way the program works, don't care for the progress, don't like EVGA anymore, whatever, then do the rest of us a favor = drop out of all your queues and GO AWAY!

Try getting your card from Asus, Zotec, whomever, and see if you have any better luck.  Or go complain about Best Buy, New Egg, whomever.  Good luck to you.

There are a handful of people here who are trying their best to make the situation tolerable, with great updates and friendly banter (lookin' at you, in particular, eNewt ).  Others have thoughtful commentary and discussions about the situation, in general, which is also interesting.

And then there are those who just pop in to complain about not getting the card they want when they want it.  Holy entitlement.  So again, if this is unacceptable, drop your queues, close your account, and go off on your merry way.  Best of luck to you.  See how easy that is?

Good luck to all those who are patiently waiting today!  And thanks to those who are working to make things better!

I dropped my associates a while back. The rewards from using the coupon is more consistent then relying on others unless you are as awesome as Enewt lmao.

I am so confused.  I am a BestBuy, NewEgg, Microcenter and EVGA customer.  Am I more important than...wait...what?

/snark

I understand the frustration (at times my family would say that I am the living embodiment of a thwarted gamer, bemoaning the lack of a card to fill the hole in my hear...er...rig). But please remember where we were when EVGA came up with the queue system. The historical distribution channels of technology (OEMs, retail, wholesale, etail, system builders, etc.) were under tremendous strain from bots and scalpers. EVGA had sufficient control over one channel -- their web store -- and they created the queue system. It is not perfect. But it does not require a binary choice -- you do not need to forsake all other storefronts or channels to participate in the queue. If you have the courage, fortitude and F5 skills (I do not), do the queue plus the refresh battles on Bestbuy.com. Or do a surgical strike at your local Microcenter (if one is near). Or play NewEgg's raffle game or whatever it is called. Gamify the situation...see if your forays into your local Bestbuy or online hunting will beat the queue to the finish line.

(I need to destroy my soapbox...every time I stand on it, I just become intolerable.)

Newegg Product shuffle page now shows "Expired" with a link to Today's Best Deals.
$10 says they got tired of dealing with salt miners flooding their support with demands.

Probably...

No they can clock bots by ebay listings.  So when they sell a combo

like the evga 3070 and evga xr1 they go to ebay and see how many evga xr1's get dumped for cheap

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=evga+xr1&_sacat=0&LH_BIN=1&_sop=16

lots for sale way lower than evga sells them and the evga 3070 + evga xr1 combo was done 10 days ago there were 25 xr1's listed the next day.
along with a lot of evga 3070's

the shuffle was selling more than 40% of the wins to ebay scalpers by my very unscientific measures.

I wonder if we will see some slow sales due to the feb 12 -26 lunar holiday. boats ship the gear in about 14-21 days.

It is 6 days after the end of the holiday. So delays should show soon. As if it has not been slow enough already.

I wonder if we will see some slow sales due to the feb 12 -26 lunar holiday. boats ship the gear in about 14-21 days.

It is 6 days after the end of the holiday. So delays should show soon. As if it has not been slow enough already.

tbf not everyone trying to resell unwanted parts from combos is a bot.

Any word on what models are dropping today?

If there will be any we should know within the next hour.  Other than 3060 launch day, the past few weeks it's seemed pretty much big Tuesday drop and then stragglers all week.

If you don't like the way this works, don't like the way the program works, don't care for the progress, don't like EVGA anymore, whatever, then do the rest of us a favor = drop out of all your queues and GO AWAY!
...
And then there are those who just pop in to complain about not getting the card they want when they want it.  Holy entitlement.  So again, if this is unacceptable, drop your queues, close your account, and go off on your merry way.  Best of luck to you.  See how easy that is?

I don't think most people who are in queues that are seeing no movement feel EVGA owes them.  I think the question running through their mind is, does EVGA value me as a customer?  And I think that's not out there bonkers.  The person said earlier they would just like more transparency.  I think there is a lack of transparency for potentially three reasons, not really in order

1) EVGA did not and does not (always?) know ahead of time what they're going to receive from nVidia
2) Competition reasons amongst AIBs
3) (Definitely speculating) If they made it known how many cards they drop on their website channel, it might irritate their retail partners, or give the retail partners more leverage to demand even more

I agree that people who just simply post (EVGA SUKZ WHY ARE YOU STILL HERE I ALREDY GOT 3 CARDS FROM MICRO CENTER) bring nothing to the table.  But when fellow members here are just getting down a bit about the process, isn't it better to read and think about what they're saying vs. treating these forums as if it's your front lawn?  Better to remind them that EVGA does value them, that is why the queue exists, and yes, empathize that the wait isn't always ideal.

Sending big energy into the universe for 3888 SKU. It's the only one I have a chance of getting.

Thank you for the community for keeping this thread alive, specially the reps!

Ding ding ding! Hit the nail on the head, and an excellent counter to the usual trolls who crop up screeching "ENTITLEMENT!" or similar whenever this concern is broached by other members.  We're not asking for our cards so much as an explanation by EVGA that demonstrates "Yes, we screwed up, but we'd still like your business and here's how we intend to do better."

10 SKUs "launched" on 9/16, three of which have queues that still haven't even reached the 9/17 release date.  EVGA: where are the 3881, 3883, and 3895?

The queue is how they responded to an unprecedented demand.  Claiming they "screwed up" by offering SKUs for sale that you didn't enter the queue for is just that - a claim.
You're projecting a lot of anger and frustration on EVGA and indeed on other forum members here.  And it brings nothing to the discussion.

100% The way I tend to see it is people can complain all they want but this is far more and far more fair than anyone else has done.

You seem to be taking rcosika's comment out of context in regard to entitlement.

He stated "And then there are those who just pop in to complain about not getting the card they want when they want it.  Holy entitlement." <-- This is an entitlement issue that does pop up here often.

He was not calling those who ask for transparency out as entitled but those who demand that they should get the card whenever they want. You seem to be talking about 2 different groups of people in regard to entitlement.

Now if you want to criticize him fro not being more empathetic go for it. In my view EVGA didn't screw up so they have nothing to apologize for. I think transparency would be nice but I understand why they aren't doing it.

Newegg Product shuffle page now shows "Expired" with a link to Today's Best Deals.
$10 says they got tired of dealing with salt miners flooding their support with demands.

right and they also match how many evga 3070 list.

That combo had 30-50 winners.

Say 50.   and 40 3070's list with 45 xr1's on ebay the next few days.

very likely means 10 people  using the cards and 40 reselling .

If it were 50 combos sold. with 25 gpus listing sand 45 xr1's
 listing very likely  24 scalpers.

I sure they did trending.  In the beginning maybe only 1 of 5 cards listed out of every combo.  and  finally it became 4 of every 5  cards listed.

It also hurts the market for evga on xr1's as they can now be found really cheap. I think the shuffle may have went the way of Buffalo.
