"Scored" a 3090 on the Amazon today. This one: EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra Gaming, 24GB GDDR6X, iCX3 Technology, ARGB LED, Metal Backplate, 24G-P5-3987-KR

For $2300, I imagine? Yeah, I'm avoiding the scalping Amazon is allowing right now. It's as bad eBay there right now.

Negative, price was $1869

No kidding? Every listing I see for that card on Amazon is at least $2000+

No kidding. I follow a Discord that uses a bot and if you're fast enough you can catch regular retail pricing.

Can you share such a discord?

Wanted to post a thank you to the three people that used my Associate's Code over the last 2 days, you're helping get me closer to an eVGA Z590 Dark & I appreciate you!

Currently testing some OCs on the Kingpin, frustrating as heck having to fish for which driver is going to net me the best results.

“Nothing is going back to normal.” I just heard that on the Bloomberg channel...yes, I am listening to talking heads ponder the import of a bunch of Redditors rebel against the Shorts…. “Nothing is getting back to normal.” Not sure I agree with that. It seems like we are slowly scratching out a new normal. Hopefully, over time, a better normal?!?

What is normal, anyway?

I'm hoping that this draws attention away from Bitcoin, and lessens the demand for cards from miners.

Today marks the 7th day in a row that we didn't see any drop for the 3080 FTW3 Ultra since last Thursday: why is it that we were FINALLY starting to pick up a bit of speed for it to come to a complete full stop??

Can someone ask Jacob why EVGA is not moving them anymore? Is it because they are focusing on the more expensive SKUs now and the Hybrids/KINGPIN/whatever???

This is seriously getting more and more infuriating now...

Should be glad we're getting drops more than once a month for a given SKU, it does afterall take about a month for the cards to get here from where they're made from what I understand, between when they leave and when they get here/are processed through port etc.
I think the 3080 FTW3 Ultra every time it drops is likely several hundred units, so it kind of makes sense it's dropping less often - it's a high volume card both for retailers & the site.

I'm slap-happy right now, just matched Markuaw1's Strix Kingpin BIOS score despite my average temp being 15C higher:

Finally I was able to purchase my 3090 FTW Hybrid. I have to admit it was a painful process. After receiving the notification email I tried with several credit cards but all of them failed. I don't live in the US. My plan was to have the card sent to my aunt's house and then just travel there to pick it up (and visit my family). I turned out I had to call several friends and relatives that live in the US and have US credit cards in order to ask them their credit card details and try to do the purchase. Many cards failed. It was only until a friend used his PayPal account that the purchase was confirmed.

I get that EVGA is trying to protect themselves and people from fraud, but it was veeeery frustrating because the error messages are not clear. They should implement cryptocurrency payments to provide people with alternatives. I bought most of my PC at Newegg using Bitcoin like 3 years ago.

Anyways... the wait is over. Happy day.

Thanks @enewt for the code and the help.

Congratulations and thanks for using my  for your 3% discount.

I am sorry it was such a painful process, but glad it worked out in the end.  Again, congratulations and enjoy your new card (once it arrives...sounds like it is going to be a multiple step trip).  I recall that you signed up at 9:21 am.  Is that correct?

Yes, that is correct 9:21am

I've essentially given up hope on the 3080 XC3 cards.  They're just not making any, and the poor suckers like me who only hit notifications on them are getting screwed. I don't even worry about watching the queue progress any longer, as they're never going to get to my order or I'll procure a card through regular retailers before it ever reaches me.

EVGA should just acknowledge that they're not being produced at this point.

That's what happen when you have the ridiculous amount of SKUs we have right now, instead of focusing on a handful and actually deliver something on a regular basis.

It's funny if you're trying to snipe a card from retailers, there are plenty of chances at 3070s and 3090s, but 3080 are like a golden unicorn - they just don't come up that often.

This because the 3080 makes about 95 x 0.0733 = 6.96 usd a day and burns about 6 kwatts to do it.  6 kwatts at 50 cents is 3 dollars power. which is the worst case. at 10 cents it is 60 cents power cost so when an 800 dollar item is earning 4.00 to 6.40 a day the miners demand for it is huge.

the 3090 costs close to 2000 and earns 5.60 to 8.00 a day so miners demand is far less.
It is why I was able to get the evga 3987  3090 from newegg shuffle.

Explains a bit.

I looked but didn't spot any 3080's (maybe I missed them).  Lots of 3090 and 3070 plus others.  Regardless, if I walked into a store and suddenly saw that wall I better hope that I was wearing my brown pants.

3070's they have and 3090's they have both are the worst for mining.

3060ti none= number one  for mining eth coin
3080 none = number two for mining eth coin.

As for me my best two on que are

3060 Ti FTW3 Ultra               3667                     12/1/2020 09:30:12
3060 Ti XC3 Gaming             3663                     12/1/2020 09:29:41

either would be nice this is the one I really want

@enewt:  I've said this before, but I want you to know that I really appreciate all you do for this forum!  So do a ton of the members, too!

Anyway, I saw another message here in the forum, and realized that you cannot track what is not reported.  My bad.  I couldn't figure out how to add my notifies to a spreadsheet, but can you do it?  Here are mine:

Originally, I just wanted any 3080 card, but then just started adding myself to the queues in hopes of getting any card!  LOL  Who would ever have thought this to be so difficult!

Anyway, I have my eyes open for a 3090 from any other legit source (e.g., at msrp).  I really want an EVGA card based on past experience with the brand, but I would also purchase one from Asus as well.  Note that I am only after one (1) card - once I get that one, I will remove all the other notifies.

Again, I really appreciate all you do to keep the forum's spirits up, and honestly, EVGA should do something special for you for all this hard work...your new card should be "on-the-house" as far as I am concerned.

I hope this information helps!  Thanks, amigo!

Regards,

Bob~

Thanks rcosika; I appreciate your kind words.  While I appreciate the effort you put into listing out your timestamps, I actually only track timestamps once they've received "invite to purchase" emails.  Please do report back to the thread when you get the good news of an "invite to purchase" email (it should come from ).

Based on your timestamps, I think it will be a race to see which of the following sku queues reach your registrations first: the 3897 (less than 3 days away and well outside of its first congestion period) and the 3898 (less than five minutes away but right, smack dab in the middle of its congestion).

Any reason why you registered for air-cooled and waterlogged 3080s, but only air-cooled 3090s?

Best of luck!

@enewt:  Interesting question...so... I learned about the queue system kind of late in the game; hence my air-cooled 3080 dates are not very likely to hit anytime soon given the current movement.  Armed with my new knowledge and info from this forum, I jumped on the hybrid versions as soon as the queues opened (thus, they are represent my 'best chances' - or so at least I thought...lol).  After seeing the industry trends, and especially considering that 3080s have become quite a 'rarity,' I jumped on the 3090 air cooled queues, just in case.  It definitely seems like 3090s have the best overall availability.

As for the overall rationale:  A 3080 is more than enough for my personal PC experiences, though the higher memory on a 3090 is appealing in terms of 'future-proofing,' such that it is.  I have been building computers my whole adult life (and I'm 55 now...yikes!), so I've been doing this a long time.  I generally avoid top tier stuff because of overall cost, and generally go for the 2nd tier items to maximize my bang-for-the-buck, and generally stick with reputable manufacturers to help with overall reliability and long-term stability.  For example, I am not a big over-clocker, as my experience has taught me that pushing too hard just results in overall instability for what amounts to minimal (i.e., not truly noticeable) performance gains.  Right now, my current PC has a mildly overclocked Intel CPU and 1080 GPU, both of which are liquid-cooled hybrids.  My PC has a large enough Power Supply to ensure maximum operation at no higher than 80% full load, and more than enough reliable, stable memory.  My system almost never crashes, regardless of what I am playing (e.g., modded Witcher III, PUBG, GW2, Oculus VR, etc.).  My typical issues arise from Microsoft Windows 10 troubles.

Don't get me wrong, I really admire those who push their stuff to the limit - that is where innovation really begins - new things come about from experimentation and pushing the limits of what we believe possible.  For me?  Well, I just want to play and enjoy some games, without the worrying if my computer will crash in the middle of something.  LOL.

In fact, I genuinely enjoy reading about the exploits of our some of the members, like Dabadger, who really seems intent on squeezing out every ounce of pure performance.  In fact, it made me chuckle (in a good way) that someone would purchase a cutting-edge device, like the Kingpin, only to immediately remove the fans and replace them with something else!  You have to admit that just reading that has to make you smile!  I love it!

Anyway, within my budget and need, my preference would be for a solid 3080 card as a logical upgrade.  I am leaning more toward air-cooled solutions, as there is less to fuss with, but I do like the hybrid options as well.  As for the 3090, well, it is a lot of money, but it should have a decent longevity as a key component in a modern PC build.  I just need one card for my needs, so I'll be buying first (and only) 3080 or 3090 from either EVGA or Asus that becomes available, whichever I can find at/near msrp.  I don't have a lot of time for the constant retail/online chase, so the queues seem to be one of my best chances.  As I've mentioned, I appreciate EVGA doing it this way, though the progress is very slow overall.  Still, I am glad that folks like you are helping out by offering a glimmer of hope that our time may eventually come.  As we all know, these are strange days overall, and our 'first-world' problems are really pretty minimal in the face of a world-wide pandemic (and other social/environmental/economic calamities).  That being said, this is our hobby, and we love it, so keep up the great work...we just gotta stay patient until this mess sorts itself out.  Thanks for the ear!

Regards,

My typical issues arise from Microsoft Windows 10 troubles.

rcosika, I am so happy to read about another of my generation playing PUBG and other shooters.  When I jump out of the plane (on my 3 year old gaming laptop), I feel like all of Erangel is against me...with my age-depreciating fast-twitch skills also collapsing, even my skills are working against my success.  My hope is that getting a more competitive fps will add a little bit of longevity to my first-person shooter career.  And by "career" I mean the time I have left where I am at least minimally competent/competitive.

I love your attitude and completely agree...our watch, as important as it is to our lives, is a first world problem.  Thanks for taking the time and effort to post.  I hope you get your card -- 3080, 3090...something that will truly work for you...asap.

Best,

From Enewt's NA queue
"3080 FTW3 Ultra Hybrid 3898 12/16/2020 09:03:34 (00:00:05)"

4 mins 1 second away.
Maybe I can make the April price hike cutoff but still lots of congestion period to go...

I also second "The Expanse" that Enewt mentioned.   Give it a chance if you like sci-fi.
I binged watched the first 4 seasons (borderline unhealthy pace) in December - I heard about the show from years back but eventually a friend told me to seriously consider watching it and to watch 3-4 episodes to get hooked in.
My opinion is that it ranks up there among the tops.
I bought a separate subwoofer just for this show's 5th season as the standalone soundbar  was just not cutting it - to maximize the experience :)

Somehow I had some money left over.  (Oh yeah because I'm still on this queue instead of spending it on a graphics card)

Re: New EVGA.com Notification Checkout Process 2021/01/28 08:36:26 (permalink)
I cannot seem to take my attention away from the Retail vs. Wall Street battle.  Now, it would appear, that Robinhood is also putting its thumb (and it’s a big thumb) on the scale. I don’t have a dog in this fight…but I was kind of rooting for the retail redditors…shorting has never struck me as where I want to fight my battles (similar to the “don’t call” line on the craps table).  If retail can only sell, who is doing the buying?  I have to assume that Robinhood, TD Ameritrade and the like must have struck supply deals with Big Shorts (or market makers on behalf of the BS) – something along the idea that the hedge funds will buy every share up to X,XXX,XXX shares – so that the trading platforms are not left holding the bag.

But enough about my momentary fascination…let’s get back to cards…wait, one more thought…If only we could create a structure with EVGA where we – retail consumers – would buy every card that they can sell…oh…wait…never mind.   (argh! )

Time to invest in gaming goodness in the form of a new 30 Series.  Good luck today!
