At what time do people usually start receiving emails?

It feels like there are two drop windows.  One at around 9 am (which today appears to have been filled by the hybrid cards) and one after lunch (between 1 and 3 pm PT).  Hopefully we have at least a few card models drop this afternoon.

Sadly, there is no massive drop for the 3080s coming. There will be plenty of 3060s.

Seriously this whole thing is garbage. The initial launch was garbage. The que is garbage too.... just not as gross. First of all NVIDIA should never have released the cards when they did. They had nowhere near enough to satisfy even a basic reasonable demand. Forget they couldn’t plan for bots despite being a leader in fn computer technology... that is absolutely unacceptable. Then instead of releasing 1, 2 or even 3 models.... they release about 10 all of which in unbelievably limited quantities and each requiring their own line or que to receive each one. Grown men are slaves to stock checks of multiple web sites. Honestly it is ridiculous. I want a card. I’ve been waiting since mid September to get one. The que didn’t exist on the 17th so I got a time on the 23rd even though I was up at 0600 on the 17th banging away on my keyboard like everyone else here. I probably won’t get one until February or March. By then the novelty of obtaining the card will have already worn thin as 5-10 better cards will be out and the aggravation will not have subsided. Seriously NVIDIA and every one else involved should be embarrassed. Apple releases new iPhones maybe you wait 3-4 days to get one not 3-4 or even 6 months. The releases were botched by design or incompetence... probably both. This is probably the wave of the future .... just like PS5 and XBOX. Reality is got to have a graphics card for your computer that is relatively new. Gotta get it from NVIDIA or AMD.... I guess we’re just going to have to pay a lot more for them likely to a fn sneaker pimp. If I had done that I wouldn’t have wasted time checking my email and websites 1000 times in the past 10 weeks. That alone would probably have been worth the extra 500 bucks I’ll probably end up paying anyway. Id feel a lot better about this if it had been announced in advance, a list generated and then a release date before Christmas with an adequate number of cards to meet close to initial demand with the bots frozen out. As always the consumer with limited buying options gets screwed. The you tubers got their cards. The sneaker pimps are sitting on a stockpile. Sales are booming for NVIDIA and EVGA and we are holding are breath for the scraps. Ridiculous b

If the allegations are true, NVIDA sold a massive amount of 3080 hardware to miners.  Which would explain the TOTAL lack of 3080 restocking across the board in the past several weeks.  I've also seen this claim made from a few sources.

I understand the frustration. This is the worst launch of all time. The sneaker d-bags seem to have turned their attention to other markets and are now screwing with our hobby. It's really not cool. I don't know what we can do about that. But Nvidia is the biggest d-bag in all of this. You are right, they should have had more stock on hand to do a proper launch. They really shoudl have waited but they were scared of what AMD had. The bottom line is they don't care about gamers at all any more. We used to be their only source of revenue but now they have HPC and gamers just don't matter any more. They forgot who made them in the first place. And now to hear reports that they sold $175 million worth of 3080s DIRECTLY to miners instead of us is just insulting. I mean they could have sold each one of those GPUs at retail for full price but instead sold them at a discount to miners. THINK ABOUT THAT. I would say competition would hopefully change things, but AMD doesn't have stock either and also doesn't seem to be to worried about PC gamers getting their GPUs either. They have prioritized production of SoCs for consoles and of course their Ryzen CPUs. So we have no where to turn unfortunately.

You can click on an associates code badge or link at any time before the purchase, it will create a cookie with the code in your browser. So it will already be there when you go to checkout as long as you use the same browser you used to click on it.

Re: New EVGA.com Notification Checkout Process 2020/12/01 13:06:30 (permalink)
I started putting together a new system last week having no idea about the stock issues.  Ouch.

Came across this the other day while trying to evaluate when things might start happening again:

no stock before spring 2021, why?

"First of all, the Taiwanese founder TSMC is totally overwhelmed by demand. The reason is simple: with the exception of the RTX 3000s, all 2020 launches (including the PS5 and Xbox) use chips engraved in 7 nm. The demand for smartphones does not help matters, with ARM SoC manufacturers like Qualcomm, very demanding in 7 nm. TSMC is alone on this technology, and its production lines are therefore totally saturated. This clear limit prevents any increase in general production immediately...

Likewise, a insulating film essential for etching chips in 7 and 5 nm, called ABF substrate (Ajinomoto Build-up Film) is in increasing shortage for many months. The prices of this film would have increased by 40%, with a waiting time which goes up to 4 months. And if manufacturers explain that the shortage is likely to last a long time, it is also because the few suppliers of ABF substrate such as Unimicron, Kinsus, or Na Ya indicate that they will not be able to increase their production for three quarters."

Influencers are more important than consumers. There is nothing like free advertising to us.

Years ago when I started hearing the word "influencer" I hoped against hope that it was just a passing trend.  I have the equivalent nausea that others feel when they hear the word "moist".

I too get instantly nauseated when I hear the word "influencer".  I think of all those Instagram posts with perfectly-framed pics of places I'll never visit and these freeloaders go there for nothing.  Does nvidia really need influencers?  They don't need more buyers, they need more supply.  SMDH

A late October notification for any 3080 at this point is bleak.

Sorry to hear that you just found about the "fun" that is the 3000 series launch. At least you just found out and missed the stress of the last few months! LOL. But I'm not sure where you got your quote from but it's true that TSMC is overwhelmed by demand, from AMD, Apple, and Qualcomm. But Nvidia decided not to get wrapped up in the TSMC madness this time around and have used Samsung's 8nm process for 3000 series chips. While it means they don't have to deal with the shortage of fab space at TSMC, it means that they are dealing with Samsung as a fab. Samsung's 8nm is no where near as power efficient as TSMC's 7nm (different generations really) but really the big issue is Samsung's fab business is no where near as robust as TSMC's so they are having problems of their own with yields of these chips. They cannot produce working chips a the same rate (at least for now). So while Nvidia would seem to have an advantage in fab space they have a disadvantage of maturity, not only in the process (which is a gen behind), but also in yields. So here we are with the current situation. Nvidia cannot supply enough chips to satisfy demand.
