comrade

Thanks!  Much appreciated.  Not what I planned for retirement, but at least it's under control and I can keep up with building computers and helping others at the local library who need help with their computers.

Looking forward to installing the latest toy.., the new 3090.  Even at my age, boys still like a new toy now and then.

🖖🏻

Like SQ, I’m in awe of your outlook and being active as you are without even having to deal with what you’re going through. Much respect.

If you put 3 GT 1030s in SLI, does that means you get a 3090?

I saw the flags on you and nomoss.  It's a Saturday.  I guess some people need something to silently complain about.  No problem.

What's really cool is the range of people who all have similar interests in this forum.  Whether it's John or our comrade on the older side, or Cap on the younger, we all kind of enjoy the same things.  It's cool to see that common thread.  Unfortunately, covid-19 has been a common thread across people as well over the last year plus.  If someone hates that reality dose, no problem.

From www.techspot.com. Possible good news:Boxes of RTX 3080 Ti 12GB GPUs have been photographed on their way to LA

Seemingly confirming an imminent release

By Isaiah Mayersen, Today 10:24 AM 24 comments

Highly anticipated: Pallets of MSI GPUs have been photographed in transit to Los Angeles. In amidst the eclectic assortment is the upcoming "GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Ventus 12G OC," which will, as the armchair generals of the forums have it, release in a month’s time.
Caught in the camera’s lens are a handful of pallets, each containing a dozen boxes of maybe a hundred GPUs. The well-protected crate is labeled with the 3090 and aforementioned 3080 Ti. The cardboard boxes contain GeForce GT 710’s and Radeon RX 580’s.

If the 3080 Ti is shipping to distribution centers now, then it should release soon. The popular prediction is mid-May. The expectation that the Ti will be paired with 12 GB of memory also finds support in MSI’s package label; the "12G" in the card’s lengthy name couldn’t mean much else, but there’s some risk of it being incorrect.
The current, if dubious predictions about the Ti pin the card’s core count at 10,240 and its boost clock at 1,665 MHz. If those figures are true, then it will perform like a 3090, but with a little luck, it’ll be priced closer to the vanilla 3080.
It could even be cheaper if it has a built-in mining limiter that makes it less valuable to the crypto-crazed. And if the mining limiter works…

Thanks for sharing that, John.  I'd heard mid-may as well, but nice to see more weight behind it.  And Adam, seems you got one GPU.  Maybe not the one you wanted most, but you did land one.  Good luck on the TI if it is one you want.

Very true, I'm happy about my 3060. It's just saddening because I know there's a lot of people out there that are looking for a GPU but can't find one that isn't $1000+.

Can't wait for this nightmare to end.

It is what it is.  We don't know what tomorrow brings, but we wake up (hopefully) and tackle it as it comes.  It's uplifting to me to think that maybe in my 70s, I still care about a graphics card.  Whether for fun or for work, that's awesome.  And it's great to see younger people embrace this weird hobby.  To Adam's point, this has sucked these last six months or so.  But we're here, and it's slowly getting better.

I know.

I haven’t done the work from home thing, so I’m a bit less affected by it, but I can see it’s effects on my family and our close neighbors, which we try to get together for a socially distant happy hour every Friday, weather permitting.

Like you said, I’d like to believe we’re on the up and up, but at the same time I don’t want to jinx it.

I cannot speak for anyone else.  Just my own take on the work from home thing.  If your company was not already heavily reliant on working from home, they probably did the work from home thing wrong.  Basically home-life-work boundaries eroded.  There were a lot of Fridays I was on a call at 9pm.  That never happened before when I regularly went to the office.

For people with young kids, schools closed, it's been pretty rough.  I'd try to wake up and work early morning, then work late night, and donut hole time to spend with my daughter.  It just turned into a free-for-all though on my time.  It is what it is.  Spam report me if you must for talking about something that is not gpu related.  But I will say this, the small amount of joy I get from knowing that maybe I'll land that 3090 one day soon is awesome.  It doesn't make me a better dad or a better person, but it's still cool.

Unless there is a drastic change in drops on the 57 next week, you'll probably get your notify by wednesday or thursday.  You're in a pretty good spot.

I'm surprised cards haven't been stolen off trucks like when some guys did it for ps5s: https://www.bosshunting.com.au/culture/thieves-stealing-ps5-moving-trucks-fast-furious-style/.

Seems the 3060 is the one I managed to catch in time, 3070 and 3060ti... I was not lucky. And I rather not talk about the 3080. Well either way it still destroys my 1050ti in performance. If I knew waiting for 30 series was going to end up like this, I would have picked up a 2060 super or a 2070 super or something along those lines.

Man I almost forgot about this. Around 200+ cards is insane.
https://www.techradar.com/news/dollar330000-worth-of-rtx-3090-gpus-have-been-stolen-from-an-msi-factory; Apparently it could have been done by MSI's own employees which would be even more nuts.

Same here.  I guess it's all about getting on that notify queue as early as possible the day it opens.  I only learned about the queue long after they had been open for the previous cards so this will be my first chance to try for day 1.  Any tips or advice from those who have managed to get in early before?

I can't understand Nvidia point. By doing this Nvidia basically cannibalize 3090.

Quickest way if you already have qualified EVGA hardware. If you doesn't, you can qualify by buying one, by collecting 5000 twitch point on EVGA channel or by making 100 forum posts. But please don't spam.

Use associate code to save 3% on your EVGA GPU purchase! And up to 10% on other products!
